I think Bauer will become the ace ARZ drafted him to be, he's got too much pride to fail. He just has to learn to trust Miggy and remain healthy.

Devil's Advocate here but imagine if ARZ would have drafted Bundy who is now considered the top pitching prospect in the minors at age 19. Would have cost ARZ more money though.

Difference between RJ and Bauer? About 300 wins, 4800 Ks, and 4 Cy Youngs. RJ had every right to be the biggest douchebag in the dug out.

Meanwhile, Bauer needs a serious mental check up right now. The subtle comparisons to Nolan Ryan are hilarious. The 90 min sideshow that is his pregame routine is embarrassing. The calling out fans over twitter is entirely immature.

Early returns on Bauer are not so good. He is the type of prospect a team should consider selling high if the opportunity presents itself. Clearly, it is too late for that, but next season, if he is still running his mouth, package him and a few others to land a big name.

Talent, if in a headcase's body, doesn't make that person better.

See: Upton, Justin

Justin has had 5 years. I just think it's too early. Bauer has the talent to be our best. Perhaps Skaggs does too, we'll see.

The players didn't really like RJ on gameday, but that's because he was obsessively focused. Once everyone got used to that it was fine, of course winning didn't hurt. On non-game days RJ was always an immensely popular player within the clubhouse unlike say Curt Schilling.

This was actually my experience. RJ was admired by the veterans for his approach and young pitchers were told to watch his gameday habits to model them. RJ wasn't a jokester, but he didn't have a stick up his butt on his off days, either. Schilling was usually the one pimping RJs approach to the kids, but you're also right that Schiling wore out his homecoming welcome VERY VERY fast. Constantly talking all the time on every subject, invited or not.
