The Suns are still one Eric Piatkowski over the LT. Right now they'd end up paying about $1 million in LT.

I was thinking there might not be much fallout for this, but now I'm starting to wonder. Wasn't the justification for selling the last two first-round picks that the Suns were "loading up" to prepare for paying the lux tax this year? If they get away from the lux tax entirely, it will throw those other moves back into the conversation.

For the moment, I'll stick to my own theory, which is that this was a necessary precursor to the Suns spending their MLE. I'll be interested to see what that brings in.

The thing that I dont get is not only do the Suns get nothing in return, but they traded away KT, and 2 picks to Seattle and James Jones and a first round pick to Portland.....Both teams are in the Suns division!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You mean same conference. We are not in the same division.

Who is left that is worth the MLE? If we bring in PJ Brown for the MLE I'm going to shoot somebody.

I doubt Kerr was itching to trade away future assets and players for nothing.

I can't totally disagree with you, but I also think this is the honeymoon syndrome, if Kerr made this deal in year 3, he would be taking a lot of heat.

This move is purely front office greed. NBA GM's don't give away something for nothing unless their boss is breathing down their neck telling them to.

Agree this is a money move, that will be touted as "flexibility" like I said it's in the how to be a GM for foamy manual at Jefferson st.

Presti just called Greg Poppovich and said "Greg! You won't believe it! We got the Suns to get rid of the only guy who could guard Tim, AND they gave us two first round picks!"

I would think that would really upset Grant Hill if the Suns had more money on the table and they gave it to PJ Brown. Just my guess.

How could Thomas guard Duncan? He got owned badly, he gave a great effort but it didnt slow Duncan at all.

PJ Brown and Matt Barnes or Mickael Pietrus and the Suns would be in great shape.

As sad as it is to say, you are dreaming if you think that's even remotely possible. They might sign Brown or Mihm, but they can't touch Barnes and Pietrus is in love with Dallas.

You clearly weren't watching then. Sure Duncan still scored, he does on anyone, he's amazing. But KT made him work for it, and kept Amare out of foul trouble. With the current roster (sans PJ Brown), Amare will have to guard Duncan, he'll end up in foul trouble, sit on the bench and the Suns are up a creek.

Perhaps this is a precursor to signing PJ Brown? I guess we'll find out sooner or later.

Signing Brown is the only thing that'll make this trade palatable.

Kerr still is going to take a lot of crap, that's probably why he was hired. Keep the heat off Sarver so he can jaunt around Scottsdale without his Benz getting egged.

These moves or other cost-cutting deals would've been made no matter who was hired as GM.

I was thinking the same thing. I remember stretches that Thomas did a good job on Duncan, but far more that Duncan had little trouble.

If Nash gets injured for any extended amount of time next season, this trade is going to look like a hoodwink on Kerr.

You can eliminate all those that aren't big men, which is most of them.
