Kyler Murray Appreciation Thread

I don't think Kyler considers his completion percentage in the moment, but I feel it is something he has been concerned/protected about since he came into the league. He has never thrown the ball away both in the pocket or outside of it. He takes losses behind the LOS instead of just tossing it out of bounds. Somehow he has been coached/taught to not throw the ball away which the only reason not to is to preserve your comp%.

Is that really the only reason? What if when you go to throw it away you get hit by a defender you lost track of and it leads to a turnover? It's not about his completion percentage, but protecting the ball and at times to the team's detriment.

This could be accurate, but I have never known any coach to coach this behavior. Inside the pocket, potentially yes, but outside the pocket and heading to the sideline...never.

I agree with this. He seems very mindful of them. I think there is a reason he takes a sack instead of throwing the ball away. Two reasons actually. It doesn't hurt his completion % and it increases his pressure rates.

This is honestly hilarious.

It's not about "legacy" it's about stat-padding for the next contract/so he can point the finger elsewhere.

Stan is eminem's self-proclaimed "biggest fan" and so fanatically devoted to the rapper that he eventually kills himself just because eminem didn't write back to him in time after Stan reached out to him a couple of times.

So then, fans of players who are over-devoted to the player are therefore referred to as "Stans".

Lotta excuses being made for pocket Kirk Cousins. Throwing short of the sticks on first down, taking sacks/running OOB behind the LOS instead of throwing it away… what are the alternate explanations for these behaviors?

He’s right it’s not some 4D chess to get a contract in 2-3 years. Not like NFL GM’s and scouts simply look at ESPN player profile stats to make decisions on quarterbacks.

I personally think it’s a physical thing. His arm doesn’t have the same zip it did a few years ago and so his confidence is lacking.

5th in Average Intended Air Yards
6th in Aggressiveness %
5th in Air Yards to Sticks
3rd Lowest Target Separation
4th in Deep Ball Attempted %
6th in Tight Window Attempts %

All lead me to believe that he is not playing to pad his passing percentage stats.

Would be open to changing my opinion if there's any concrete evidence showing an opposing view as opposed to 'feels' and 'vibes' that he his.

Maybe you’re right and he’s changed and he’s actually a top passer in the NfL it’s just we can’t score points because of witchcraft. I’m sure there are also more secular explanations like explosive plays are down across the NFl but we’re only focused on Kyler.

Completely agree the sample size is small. I also don’t want it to be misconstrued that I think he’s a top passer. None of those stats account for outcomes either. I’m not saying he’s been successful.

My only assertion is that I strongly disagree with the sentiment that he’s been playing safe in order to protect his % stats. Since it seems he’s actually been aggressive.
