Well, I can’t blame him from a human-aspect since football isn’t life. Sure, it sucks for the fanbase, but he still has to focus on his family & himself at the end of the day.
No reason he can't post both videos of his film study setup and what he does to get mentally prepared along with the visually compelling "sitting on the training table" footage.
I don’t think it would change his on-field play. That’s the point here.

Man that quote was 6 years ago.
That quote was 3 years ago, in that December 2021 NY Times profile, I think.

Yeah… here. December 23, 2021.

As fans for the team he plays for, sure, it would be nice to see him watching film in those vlogs.

But as a casual fan, nobody is trying to watch that because it’s not entertaining. Working out with an Asian celebrity will bring a lot more views than watching film in the office.
Yes, maybe, but does it make him smarter?

Can you quote it? It’s behind a paywall.

If that’s the right one, my bad on that one. Damn, time flies cause I really thought it was circa-2019 he said it.

“I'm not one of those guys that's going to sit there and kill myself watching film. I don't sit there for 24 hours and break down this team and that team and watch every game because, in my head, I see so much.”

Just such a ridiculously stupid statement from a guy who’d never accomplished anything up until that point of his career.

The absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
The only evidence we have is (a) actual quotes by Murray saying that he doesn't feel the need to watch much film, (b) the team unfortunately feeling that they needed to put a clause in his contract to force him to put in a BARE MINIMUM of film study and to make it cringingly explicit that he can't be distracted by video games while doing so, and most importantly (c) his obvious performance dropoff in games later in every season.

You are correct that there's an utter lack of evidence that Murray does ANY of the extra work that successful QBs and even backups put in, to master the mental aspects of the game.

Daves,

Thanks for this trip down memory lane. Now, how about something that supports his lack of attention to the details of his position since Monti and Co. arrived on the scene?

One word, one sentence, one paragraph, one raised eyebrow.

Oh my gosh young guys saying dumb things. Who would have thought.

Also 2021 wants it’s takes back.

Someone asked for the quote, I gave it.

Also, the 2024 take is even worse than the 2021 take because if he is actually now watching film like a madman and STILL sucking this horrifically down the stretch, dude probably has zero shot to ever be a winner.

He could even just release the info that he's putting in extra time in the film room. That would actually be news.

Purdy playing with All Pros on offense and defense.

We will see how much the Whiners are willing to give their game manager.

Sure, 377 yards and 34 points on the Lions with *checks notes* his leading receivers Ricky Pearsall, Juan Jennings and Chris Conley. George Kittle is the only All Pro on that offense outside Trent Williams and Williams is on IR. Along with starting LG Aaron Banks and 1st and 2nd string RB's.

His O line against the Lions was Spencer Burford, Nick Zakeji, Jake Brendel, Dominik Puni and Colton McKivitz.

His new Youtube brand building exercise makes me chuckle. He hasn't released anything since the Jets game. He's only ever released videos in weeks after a win. If we lose he doesn't put anything out. I'd be more interested in his losing videos than his hype videos off a win.

Doesn't seem like a great strategy for a QB with his record.

Kyler's biggest career criticism has been he doesn't study enough and plays COD too much, and on starting his own YT channel he hasn't thought "I'll put this myth to bed and show how much I study in a week". It would have been the first thing I did, even if it was BS and I made it all up.

He could have made a whole video about it and fans would have lapped it up. The media would have lapped it up. It would be his most watched video by far.

The fact he hasn't even touched on it once, but thinks we should watch him workout and get acupuncture, speaks volumes.

Nobody outside of us online Cardinal fanbase is trying to watch another dude watch something else like film.

The audience for Physical Fitness/Workout videos are actually quite enormous.

Yeah, but people aren't going to Kyler for that. They spent more time eating food than working out.

The only people watching Kyler videos are Cardinals fans and (at a push) NFL media, and the thing they would most like to see is him doing film work. Also, watching pros break down film is fascinating to most fans.

I actually do not want to defend Kyler, but man some of you guys make it hard saying nonsensical stuff like that.

It's only nonsensical in this narrative you have created that a) people would rather watch him eat Korean food than watch film and b) he's doing it for influence/money and not his own personal branding, which would be better served by showing him watching film.

With Kyler starting all 16 games thus far, there’s no reason that any of these dudes should be ahead of him.

Solid take.. my largest question with Kyler will always be - would things be different if he had a proven veteran OC?

2 rookie OC’s certainly haven’t helped his situation. There’s more questions I could propose here, but that would muddy the waters. Would have loved to see what a top tier OC would have done w Kyler to answer how much that plays into factor here. The NFL is so much about being in the right situation at QB and I could list countless of examples of successes and failures.
I mean it would have been better if Kliff involved more NFL under center stuff to help with his development. However, that was still a QB friendly offense. Petzing's offense isnt QB friendly imo...but this is year 6. He should be good enough to where we can complain about Petzing but its not to the point where the offense is trash. Idk, its disappointing. Herbert's got a subpar OC imo, but no one doubts him.

Yea, I don’t think is true at all. Those videos really just show what his chef prepared more than anything. Hell, I bet that UCLA camp video showed more of working out alone than eating food in all of the videos combined.
The only people watching Kyler videos are Cardinals fans and (at a push) NFL media, and the thing they would most like to see is him doing film work. Also, watching pros break down film is fascinating to most fans.
Kyler also has an Oklahoma fanbase. He also has a twitch fanbase. He most likely has natives in Texas as well. Korean natives. So, no, it’s not just Cardinal fans.

The film breakdown part is so fascinating that I’m seeing Derrick Henry & Justin Jefferson(individually) workout videos have more views than Hall of Famer Kurt Warner 20 film breakdown videos combined. Hell, A Day in the Life(which are pretty much of what Kyler’s videos are anyway) of Rome Odunze has more views than a lot of Kurt Warner film breakdown videos combined.

Yea, sorry, but it’s not that fascinating to “most” fans.

It was there for the taking.

Kind of wild that Kyler was competing/beating out the Brees & Brady's for Pro Bowl spots. Now rookie QBs and Sam Darnold are the cream of the crop.

Its why I hate the idea of running it back. Chances are another QB/coach emerges next year better than Kyler/Petzing.

It’s nonsensical because you know you’re just speaking for BritCard & people you see on here instead of actually being realistic.

Personal branding, money, influence, they all go together one way or another.

You say otherwise, but I honestly believe even you know watching a video of a dude watching another video isn’t all that entertaining. Even you gotta know that.
