I don't think you need to cook shark-food. (they set her on a floating pyre and set it aflame)

That was the ceremony part.

It goes back to something I read and also saw on tv once, I think it was an island near the Philippines not positive. The indigenous people bury all their dead at sea. They have a huge problem with shark attacks so they have a ritual where they catch a shark, stuff the shark's mouth full of poisonous anemones until the shark dies. It's a "revenge" for all the shark attacks. ANd of course experts say that the reason for all the attacks(beyond they're in the water a lot) is that they essentially "trained" the sharks to eat people by burying their dead at sea for generations.

So my theory was the others want their shark to be trained to eat people in the water?

Wow!

Talk about a great episode.

I'm all for the new characters getting more time. Another new hottie is fine with me. Plus they keep killing off the other main characters as fast as they add new ones.

The cloud is finally back! What the hell is that thing?

Juliet's video she showed Jack really spiced things up.

A few thoughts:

We still don't know what happened to Walt and Michael.

Desmonds girlfriend hired those guys who noticed the electromagnetic disturbance a few episodes back. I wonder if they are looking for the island now?

Why was the cloud afraid of the other castaways when it initially confronted Ecko?

I thought that too but in a show where a black cloud picks up a man and pounds him to death, i figured is it really that far fetched. :D

It's actually sea urchins not anemones.

Agreed when they couldn't find Ecko's brothers body and then his brother said you talk to me like I'm your brother, I immediately thought the cloud took the body.

Yeah, that was kinda crazy.

Wow!

I don't think the black cloud was afraid. I think it's just waiting for the right time to strike.

Any theories on who the guy with the eyepatch is, and what hatch is HE in?

After seeing what it did to Ecko, I don't think that it needs to worry about the "right" time.

here's a thought that is very, very far from even half-baked:

could all of these things/people that the survivors are encountering be somehow equated to either mythology or the Oddessy?

What made me think of it is the guy with the eye-patch: Cyclops (son of Poseiden, god of the sea).

Or maybe the original pirate from the Black Rock?

Do you think they'd go as far as to have a pirate with an eye-patch? You think in later episodes we'll find out that he has a peg-leg and a parrot named polly and he walks around saying "arrgggh" all the time?

and I'm watching too much shark week?

:D

The only commonality that i'm confident of is everyone on the island in some way or another was "responsible" for someone dying. I think.

Don't forget the tailies found a glass eye with the bible in the abandoned Arrow Station last year.

OOh good catch I'd forgotten that. Funny how much you forget when they take months off at a time.

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate Nikki and Paulo. They ruin everything.

They are soooooooooo forced......we've never seen them in 60 days on the island, now they have a seat at the cool kids' table.

And yes, Locke and others know that there are multiple hatches. Locke knows that the monitors look at other hatches (and saw Jack walking in their own now imploded hatch). But only when Nikki "figures it out" and actually rewinds the tape of Dr. Candle does Locke remember what the other monitors are for...and THEN Locke says "I feel stupid." Don't feel stupid Locke...we should feel stupid for having to watch Paulo and Nikki bumble and stumble their way into the scene. The forced voiceovers "what's eko looking for? His brother's body is in that plane." Made me want to PUNCH something.

You seriously can not introduce new Losties, at least not in a forced way. New island people, yes. New others? Yes. But not new losties...we know they are there, but they have been ignored for so long introducting two characters should be a season long process. Small hints to them...later they get speaking parts....last episodes of the year they have some big role, then next season do their backstory. These two have backstory coming up in like 4 eps or so. I can't stand it...I hope they meet the smoke monster ASAP.

Artz was an exception, because he was a redshirt and died right away, but kind of clumisly inserted into the clique...and that was at the end of season one. You can't pull that crap now.

Otherwise...ok episode.

I have heard/seen a lot of Nikki/Paulo hate - but they really don't bother me to much.

But I do understand the questioning of why the need to interject them, when characters like Rose/Bernard are not anywhere to be seen.

It wouldn't be so bad if they injected other losties into episodes every now and again so it didn't look so forced. D-dogg is right, it sucks because they are forcing another hot chick on the show that will more than likely get killed off before her nimrod boyfriend!!

I agree. They don't bother me much. but I'd rather have Ecko continue on than have those two introduced.

Maybe they'll both get arrested for something and then killed off.

Man if the Cards were as tough on their players as Lost is on the actors we might win some games.

Anyone have a second (or third) look at the eye patch guy? I am going off memory here, but he looked a lot like Ron Perlman to me:
