Wow they will lose a ton in ratings. 10 is the dead mans zone on the east coast. Its where they dump the bad shows.
If it's 10 on the east coast wouldn't it be 8 here and not 9?

Anyways, I heard this was a great show so I found a site and I watched 44 episodes of it, rented the end of season 2 and then watched the 6 episodes of season 3 on the Lost website. Wow! This really is a great show....I can't wait until it starts again!

I just have a question. What happened in Eko's flashbacks in season 2? That is the 1 episode that I missed.

Does that time slot allow for them to have more graphical content? I know some of the cable channels get away with murder after a certain time.

It probably gives them some leeway (think that guy's ass on NYPD Blue), but it is still network TV, so I doubt they try anything.

Lost returning early?
A few weeks back we were ahead of the pack with news of Day Break's unceremonious ejection from ABC's broadcast calendar. Well, we're at it again with buzz of mammoth proportions. Apparently, amid fears that the ongoing string of critically challenged replacements will bury ABC's chances of regaining its Wednesday footing, execs at the alphabet network have dropped in on the LOST crew with the following proposition: how much money do you need to get LOST on the air early....
This would be huge news for LOST fans who are still spasming over a dread seven weeks with no new material. For sure the move would generate humongous buzz for the network which is still reeling from what is considered a series of bad mistakes over its once dominate Wednesday night line up.

If it is done, LOST would return January 10th or January 17th, three to four weeks earlier then previously expected. The dependent factor is whether or not the production can be rounded out in time so that the series does not miss a week. The cost for beefing up LOST's post production temporarily seems well worth saving some face with a jaded fan base. Such a move could very well make ABC the most fan-friendly network.

Ooh if Lost came back early that would be cool. I'm having enough trouble remembering the storyline as it is, the earlier the better.

The big question then is if it would end the idea of having the rest of the season with no repeats--if it starts early, most likely there will be a few weeks of re-airs.

In the meantime you guys could check out yourtvlinks.com for most of the episodes and then watch the beginning of the 3rd season on the Lost website.

McCollum: `Lost' won't survive many more seasons, producers speculate
By Charlie McCollum
Mercury News
I was going to hold off on diving into the murky waters of ``Lost'' until closer to its return next month. But enough tidbits about the show's future have surfaced that later turned into sooner.

Perhaps the most intriguing (if hardly definitive) bit of news about the series came when the executive producers and cast met the press on the Television Critics Association semiannual press tour here. When reporters asked the sort of standard-issue question about how long ``Lost'' (now in its third season) might last, producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse actually gave some non-standard answers.

It seems that the same question -- of how long the story of those survivors on the beach (and assorted Others and beasties elsewhere on the island) can play out -- has been on their own minds, and discussions have begun on an appropriate ``end game.''

``It's time for us to find an end point for this show,'' said Cuse, adding that they don't want to be a modern-day version of ``The X-Files,'' which fell apart toward the end of its nine-year run.

``That was a great show that probably ran two seasons too long. That is a cautionary tale for us.''

Lindelof went even further, suggesting that next season might be the last one, with the show's usual 22 episodes. ``At the end of Season 4,'' Lindelof said, ``we will have produced 93 hours of the show, and I imagine that would be very close to where it would end ideally,'' perhaps with a shortened Season 5 wrap-up that would bring the series to a total of 100 episodes.

``We're no longer going up the hill. We're starting to come down now,'' Lindelof said.

Of course, that decision isn't going to be made by Lindelof and Cuse but by the suits at ABC. (It owns the show.) But while Stephen McPherson, the network's entertainment president, didn't exactly rush to embrace the near-term end game, he didn't reject it out of hand, either. He seemed (at least in his comments to reporters) to understand that ``Lost,'' with its complex story lines and mythologies, may be one of those TV shows that simply can't go on forever.

What McPherson did say a bit more definitively is that his strong preference is for ``Lost'' to run 22 consecutive original episodes next season a la ``24,'' starting either in the fall or in February. This season, to avoid repeats, the show aired six episodes in October and November with the remaining 16 hours scheduled to start Feb. 7.

I'd be fine with one more season after the current one. That would give them 4 seasons and roughly 100 episodes, enough for a sweet syndication deal. I think a lot of people fear that the show's quality will decrease like they say Alias did.

While this is disappointing to hear, it does not surprise me. It is nice to know though that the producers do not want to continue the show just for the sake of ratings/money/whatever.

I'm actually glad to hear that. I wish more shows like this would tell the story they want to tell and then walk away.

The allure of the almighty dollar is strong, though. And, I think when you've got your head down and you're banging out script after script and people keep eating it up and telling you you're brilliant, you might get sucked into thinking your product is as good as it's always been. It can be pretty heady stuff.

I'm glad they're making these decisions...it's going to be better in the long run.

Good to hear as well. I would hope for two more seasons, both continuously shown like 24 this year.

That makes me a happy camper! I dreaded the end of X-files because I felt they just turned the damn show into a soap opera.

i think it is funny in a way that this is just now becoming "news". the producers have said in interviews during season 1 that there was a definite arch to the story and that they planned on it only being 5-6 seasons long. all this current article is doing is again stating something that has been discussed for awhile now.

news that is not really news - gotta love it - lol

It's news. Now they're saying 4 seasons. Maybe 4.5.
