Stein is reporting that Mayo and Courtney Lee are "two names at the top of Suns' list of guards."

If the Suns are interested in Lee, why not just bring back Brown instead? They are both 26, and both have put up similar numbers in the games they started last year. In fact, Brown scored more and shot better in fewer minutes.

Code:
G	MPG	PPG	APG	RPG	SPG	FG%	3FG%	age

Lee	26	36.5	14.0	1.7	3.3	1.5	0.429	0.400	26
Brown	19	31.2	15.8	2.0	3.7	1.0	0.438	0.406	26

I am sure they are considering Brown over Lee.

Courtney Lee, good grief. This season is going to make me hungry for the days of William Bedford and Grant Gondrezick.

Nope. What's the goal here? I think Mayo, Brown, or Lee would be a mediocre SG anyway. I'd probably rank it as Mayo, Brown, Lee.

Best price for him would be $5M-$6M/yr but the max I would pay for him is $7M/yr

Anything more is vastly overpaying.

Interesting that 10 days seems to be the amount of time bandied about as the deadline for Gordon's physical.

I think there is a huge difference. You are paying for potential, shannon brown and courtney lee are who they are and they always will be. Mayo has a far higher ceiling. Will he ever tap his potential? Who knows..

What I saw of OJ Mayo in this years playoffs shows he is already a huge improvement over Shannon Brown. He plays defence, he shoots with confidence. I hope he wants to improve and be a star, so we don't end up overpaying. Should be our best SG since J-Rich.

If we don't get him just sign a token SG and go for a top 5 seed next year.

I'd rather not have Scola. That flopper should be tossed from the league. The way he acts out there is pathetic.

coming from someone that wanted to pay Eric Gordon 15M$ per that is pretty funny though.
Umm Gordon is much better than Mayo.

Funny you think that Gordon isn't worth the max, yet at least two NBA franchises think he is worth that...

So who knows more about basketball, two National Basketball Association franchises FOs or you? :D

PS you are also the same guy who wants to trade Gortat at any chance you can get so you don't have much of a place to talk ;)

Funny, I guess that means Hibbert is worth a max contract too. Excellent logic.

Interesting that 10 days seems to be the amount of time bandied about as the deadline for Gordon's physical.

Again, why is it Phoenix' issue if they did not get him. Gordon was a RFA and the Suns never owned his rights. They were only a bidder for his services. N.O. matched. So if he does not pass his physical, he becomes the property of Phoenix? It sounds like some crazy stuff to me.

So far no one seems to know the deadline for the physical but certainly it can't be 10 days. That wouldn't make sense. And I highly doubt the 10 days in which Mayo is supposed to make his decision has anything to do with that.

Yeah, I think that's how it works. I don't like it either. Should Gordon fail his physical it appears that NO would have the right to "unmatch" the offer sheet, at which point it would become a binding contract with Phoenix. Of course the Suns had their own opportunity to give Gordon a physical already so obviously they must have been satisfied with the results. But NO should have been required to perform its own physical before matching the contract.

Lots of NBA teams are playing in Vegas summer league right now, including the Suns. Lots of GM's and team executives there. He could be meeting with any number of them.

Center is becoming the most important position in the NBA. Hibbert is extremely young, highly skilled, durable and has great work ethic. Those are very hard to find at the C position so yes he is worth the max.

All Stars at the center position have inflated value because they are so hard to find.

Of course if you actually watched any film of Hibbert this season you would already know this but I'm not surprised -_-

I wouldn't necessarily call center the most important position. I would call it the position with the least quality players right now (power forward is getting to be a close second).

PF is deeper than shooting guard.

How many truly allstar caliber shooting guards can you name? Kobe Bryan and Dwyane Wade? For #3 you already have to come up with Ginobili, Harden, Gordon, Johnson none of them is a great player.

PF - Love, Gasol, Duncan, Garnett, Bosh, Davis, Griffin, Nowitzki, Horford, Randolph, Amare, Josh Smith, Monroe, Aldridge.........

I'd say PF is maybe the deepest position along with PG.

Wow...your analysis is spot on as usual. Ask Miami and OKC, obviously the two best teams in the NBA how important a good center is.

Keep watching film though, it's really boosted your NBA acumen.

At least we won't be subjected to your Gordon/Rivers fantasies anymore, now you can focus on your 8 team, 46 player trade scenarios.

Yep, SG is a wasteland. Tons of good PG's, lots of good PF, very few good SG's, and true center is an almost outdated position.

you can throw the Celtics in there too. They got to the Conference Finals without a C as well.

Big men in the NBA will always be the most important positions. Not necessarily the Center position because many teams have won without a great center. However, most of those teams had a legit PF playing next to that center.

I would say having one or the other at either big man position is pretty damn important since those players are harder to find. It seems like guards and tweeners are a dime a dozen in every draft.
