I'm not a Geno Smith fan. From what I have seen, he's a slightly bigger version of Pat White. He's a good college QB but doesn't have the throwing ability to make it in the NFL. His numbers are great but I think that's more a product of their system. I want QB's that have to make some reads and at least Wilson and Barkley, who I don't like all that much either, have to be able to somewhat read a defense.

Braxton Miller, from OSU, is probably going to put up great numbers this year. To me, he has no chance to be a NFL QB.

Geno Smith is a great athlete & I've watched a ton of his games. He will struggle in the NFL as the sophistication & speed of the NFL game is something he doesn't respond well to. I've seen average Syracuse defenses make him look awful at times. Slow release & doesn't get through his progressions fast enough to be a legit NFL QB. Great athlete though!

Lee's a first round pick. Guy is already insanely good as a true sophomore and has the acceleration and speed of the gods.

You never know. Its game 1 of the season against an inferior opponent.

The difference between 1st rounders and 2nd rounders is nearly nonexistent these days. On average 3 WRs go in the 1st round every year (on avg.) and usually 1 of them is a lotto pick, head and shoulders above the rest, thatll be Woods this year.

Seems like theres been a heavy influx of talented WRs the past few years, so the need may not be so high. I can tell you already that T's are going to be the hot item next year.

So if we have a high pick, say #5, thatll be the 5th overall in the 2nd round too. So Lee may not be as far out of reach as you think.

This is just speculation, I dont want Lee, nor do we need him. We have so many other issues to deal with that WR doesnt come close to consideration.

Just stick it out with Skelton and start looking in January.

Glad to see you're posting more instead of lurking. There are lots of Nevada fans on the board--it's fun to see more diehards come out of the woodwork.

Dunno if anyone else caught the GT vs VT game.

I watched it to specifically scout Thomas.

I can confidently say hes off the table.

Its one thing to be Gino Smith or Matt Barkely and dominate inferior opponents and look like a superstar.

Its another thing to struggle to move the ball and look lost vs inferior opponents.

Logan Thomas looked like a pile of crap. Not being negative, its the honest truth he looked like a blend of Tavaris Jackson, Matt Leinart and a pinch of Jawalrus Russell, along with the depth perception of Derek Anderson.

Barks in the lead once again.

23-38 for 377 yards and 4 TDs against Hawaii. Looks good, but here is what concerns me about him: Marquise Lee.

Two plays stick out to me. First Barkley connect with Lee on a 5 yard curl route. Lee is so athletic, he turns it into a 75 yard TD. The second play is basically a lateral that Lee takes for 41 yards.

I am terrified that Barkley is Leinart 2.0. He is surrounded by such superior talent, that he may appear better than he really is.

Both their WR's will play on Sundays, Woods is probably a 2nd rounder I think Lee is a first rounder eventually.

I think Barkley has more physical talent than Leinart, but I don't know if he is any better in the mental aspects of the game. There seems to be a lot of short throws and YAC yards in that USC offense.

No way dude, Woods have been the projected #1 WR taken for 2 years now.

Hes a lock at the #1 WR like Luck was a lock as the #1 QB taken.

Its reputation at this point. But Woods is very, very good.

Hes either going to be a: AJ Green or Dez Bryant in the NFL. Comes down to his attitude. But believe it that his pick will be in the single digits.

I meant to watch Tennessee to get a look at Tyler Bray. Did anybody watch? I know his stats were good, 27-41 333 yards and 2 TD's. I've seen him hyped up but never have seen him play. I can't see him being better than Wilson, but may be better than Barkley.

edit: my bad I have seen him play. I thought he had been injured and out for the entire year last year. OK, I wasn't impressed with Tenn's QB's last year so I'm not a fan.

I would like to see an increase in Wilson's completion percentage this year. It was 63% last year and you have to figure that will go down at least a few points in the NFL.

I should add, one thing I really admire about Barkley is he stuck it out in an adverse situation. Barkley committed to SC as a 4th grader(ok exaggerating) and he could have easily bolted when the sanctions came down but he didn't.

I've seen Keenan Allen rated ahead of him in the same conference. I like Woods he's more polished than either Allen or Lee, but they're both bigger and more explosive.

Edit, I actually missed Woods was above Allen in that same draft ranking so not rated behind him as I said.

He can definitely go first round but I wouldn't say he's a lock to be the first WR picked.

But anything can happen.

Did you also know hes a devout christian who speaks to high schoolers and sunday school kids. Also takes humanitarian trips to Africa and stuff. Hes actually very Tebowish in that regard. Very admirable.

But because hes a blonde USC QB everyone thinks hes a partier and jerk like Mark Sanchez and Leinart.

Yep I mentioned the SI article earlier in this thread.

I actually met Barkley when he was in HS, he was with a group of surfers on my plane to Loreto Baja. Someone told me he was going to USC and his name was matt I asked if it was Barkley and he said yes. Seemed like a nice kid.

I committed to Texas in Kindergarten. The head coach's wife was my teacher and my Uncle played for Texas and.... But when I graduated high school they didn't want me. I never could understand why UT football didn't want a 5'10 155lb guy who didn't play football his senior year to concentrate on the 400 meter hurdles and mile relay. :(

He is nothing like Pat WHite. Geno stands 6'4 220 and doesnt run unless he has too. They run a spread offense where he is not only required to make reads after the snap but he is in charge of changing individual receivers routes at the line and can change to a completly new formation or protection package.

I think you should watch him a little closer. Great arm, great accuracy, high QB IQ. Not Pat White

Geno reminds me alot of a slightly better college Vince Young. Very good college QB. Namely COLLEGE QB. I dont think his game translates to the NFL.

I think hes just the flavor of the month because he put up a good game. In the long run, Barks is still the easy front runner for best QB in the draft.

I agree with all.

IMO Geno has the best arm of Barkley & Wilson.

I dont think you have watched him. Flavor of the month? he put up 4500 passing yards and 35 tds last year. He has a big strong arm, stands tall in the pocket, and the coaches give him the leeway to make a lot of pre-snap changes.

VY couldnt read a defense, in fact they dumbed it down for him. And he ran all the time. Geno is a pocket QB. He has the atheltic ability to move out of the pocket, but he is not a runner. Also, VY had one of the worst passing motions int he game, have you seen Genos? Its compact and quick for a big man...

I like Barkly, but his arm strength and ability to make all the throws is still a question mark with him. He is certainly a west coast style QB. Geno could play in multiple offenses including vertical and WC passing games.

Logan Thomas is my guess as the number 1 pick overall next year.

Ouch. Didnt look good last night.

We'll see. I have seen hm have great games and some pretty bad ones. He has all the physical tools but not sure he has the mental makeup to read and understand defenses.

My personnal preference is and has been Tyler Wilson. I like everything I have seen from this kid, and I think we will have a very good chance to draft him due to other, higher profile QBs.

Where I could get tricky is if we are at the top of the first round and Wilson gets a mid to late first grade. Do you trade back, up or take him higher than projected? With all new wide receivers, he may not put up rediculous numbers like Matt Barkley, Geno Smith, Logan Thomas or EJ Manuel which may cause him to slide a bit.

That's an upshot to the influx of highly drafted QBs these days. Who are the teams who might take a first-round QB next year, realistically?

Arizona, Kansas City, Oakland, Jacksonville, Houston, New York Jets, Atlanta (unlikely, but Matt Ryan is in a contract year--surprising, right?--and are they going to guarantee him $40 million?), Seattle, Buffalo.

No one in the NFC North, NFC South, or AFC North are going to draft a QB. I think the chances are less than 50% that anyone after Houston drafts a QB in the first two rounds.

Interested in reading why you think Houston with Matt Schaub and T.J. "Beat the Bengals" Yates on the team would consider using a first round pick on a QB. Also the Jets with Sanchez and Tebow. Don't they have enough controversy at the position as it is?

And Oakland? Why would they even think about a QB in the first round when they have Leinart? :p
