Trust me I wish none of this ever occurred. I hate that this is going to set the program back and I’m far more worried than you are that the sanctions will be worse.

How much money and for how long was Nevin Shapiro giving Miami? Like eight years. Miami football ended up getting a one-year postseason ban and lost nine total scholarships during a three-year span. Basketball lost a scholarship for three years.

There isn't any historical precedent to indicate that a punishment will be any worse than 1-2 years and a scholarship or two taken away.

Arizona has proven itself a brand name. It was top of the conference with Lute and top of the conference with Miller. The next two seasons will be rebuild years (which means fringe tournament team for Arizona), but in due time, we'll be back, with or without Miller.

agree with this. might take a little more time, but I think they'll be back within 5 years.

You can totally invalidate the ESPN report:

1. They offered three different dates, and all three don't line up with the wiretap dates.
2. They changed the name from Deandre Ayton to "a 5-star recruit"
3. They changed the narrative from Miller paying Ayton to Miller steering Ayton to Dawkins.

These are mistakes that first-year journalism students learn not to do. And at least five different major news outlets have put out counterpoints to disprove the article.

And yes, when you make careless and inaccurate statements, especially the ones as egregiously made by Schlabach, it kills the entire article. I can legitimately start asking questions like, "how do they know that's not Sean Miller, but rather Andy Miller"?

I'm sorry, but with those errors, you can't take anything seriously from the Schlabach, even if you wanted to bring in the Book situation.
Eh I say dismiss the entire article at your own risk.

If it’s the head coach and multiple assistant coaches that’s loss of institutional control and the SMU pony express becomes a more comparable storyline.

You'd have to prove a lot more than what's been shown in the FBI report to even remotely get close to the death penalty. Also, SMU had repeated NCAA violations dating back to the 70s. Arizona does not have a significant history of foul play.

No way it gets that big... especially with so many other programs likely getting caught.

They also got nailed a couple
Years after they already got a post-season ban and it was a scandal that went all the way to the governors mansion.

Just watched that 30 for 30. This situation isn’t good if true, but it ain’t close to the Pony express because of the repeat offenders/MASSIVE scope of scandal.

That’s a good point. That said, we have NO idea what might be on any tapes.

Right? Did everyone who stands behind Miller because of vehement denials just forget about Palmiero wagging his finger at Congress... Sammy Sosa forgetting how to speak english after his denial... Lance Armstrong lying and destroying lives for people who exposed his lies... Trump's twitter tirades where every time he screams NO COLLUSION! NO COLLUSION!?

Canseco personally “shot up” Palmeiro when claiming he used steroids. Sosa put on 80 lbs and turned into a different person. Every USPS cyclist new Lance was doping cause they did it together.

A college football reporter is claiming, through a second hand account, regarding evidence that is federally sealed, that Miller spoke about payments for a player that was already signed, sealed and delivered to Arizona at the time of the wire tap.

SI said their source heard the tapes. IF SI said THEY had heard the tapes they'd be in huge trouble with the Feds right now since the tapes are part of a sealed order.

FWIW, I didn't see it myself in the original report but there's an Arizona fan who's insisting in the original report, when Book is talking to Dawkins about paying Quinerly, Book says "we just got a freshman for 100K." That's apparently in the original filings the FBI put out. I sure didn't see it but if it is, it would explain where the ESPN story might be coming from and that it's not Miller. The key then would be the timing, is that Book thinking he's got Bowen?

If that's in there, and that's the tape, it would definitely get Ayton cleared and Miller for that allegation too.

The Bowen angle makes as little sense at Ayton given the timeline. I cannot believe how much traction came from Hansen’s radio interview in Phoenix. The guy lost his marbles 15 years ago and Dan Bickley still thinks he’s talking with “someone who rhymes with Look”.

But we are not talking about what happens now. We are talking about what happens if everything comes out eventually bad.

At this point I don't know what happened but I do know the Bowen angle actually DOES work with the timeline.

Bowen committed unexpected to Louisville in June 2017. Again Arizona DID get Bowen, he's said that under oath, but in April both Trier and Alkins announced they were staying, which wasnt' expected, so Bowen then had to find another spot. So if he was the guy Dawkins and Book(not MIller) were talking about, it fits. If the call took place before Alkins and Trier unexpectedly stayed, it would have made perfect sense Book thought they had gotten Bowen.

Bilas on Thursday night tripled down on his claim that he totally believes Schlabach so I really wonder what he's seen that leads him to say that. He always backs the coach and the kid against the NCAA.

Are you saying the Bowen angle works, as in Miller and Dawkins were recorded by the Feds discussing paying Bowen? Or are you talking about Book discussing this with Dawkins? I think it's best if we clarify that, because as Mao said, they're two different, albeit related, issues.

I'm guessing you've seen this: https://www.scribd.com/document/371181383/Lawsuit#fullscreen&from_embed

The original April 7th wiretap was done on Munish Sood's phone. The purpose was to “capture potentially criminal conversations involving [Mr.] Dawkins.” On May 5th the feds applied for and were granted an extension, again on the tap on Munish Sood's phone. Info gathered on that original tap and extension was used to apply for a wiretap on Dawkins' phone, on June 19th, according to the link above. They then extended the wiretap every 30 days or so through Sept 20th. The deadline to withdraw from the Draft was May 24th, and Bowen committed on June 3rd. Help me understand how that timeline works?

The Book Richardson thing will be dealt with, and Arizona is likely to get punished for it.

Until then we are stuck in limbo with no recruits for the foreseeable future. If this case takes two years for the judge to lift the seal of evidence and Schlabach was wrong it was still a two year punishment.

The recruiting was already going from great to average in the first place, now it’s non-existent. Pretty crazy that a reporter, whether he was right or wrong, can bury a program without repercussions.

Good catch and no I hadn't read that document that gave the timeline on the wiretaps.

So that proves the Arizona fan saying that's the part that ESPN is confusing for Sean Miller and Ayton is incorrect because that part couldn't have even happened unless they somehow wiretapped a 3 way call between Sood, Dawkins and Book and there's no mention in there of such a call that I'm aware of.

Was thinking of a similar situation at my job. This would be like me working with a client and someone loosley aquainted to this particular client telling me he once threatened to beat his boss up. I break confidentiality to warn the boss and my client ends up fired and can’t get another job. I never confirmed that this was his intent and because I didn’t do my due diligence, I ruined his life. The only difference is Id likely lose my license or be suspended. Schlabach will continue writing.

He may have been discussing payment with Shittu or Little but the Ayton thing doesn’t add up. Who is giving this Ayton stuff to Schlabach and why did Schlabach run with it given the timeline inconsistencies?

Miller announced that Ayton, Trier and Alkins will all go pro after this season and let them participate in the Senior night.

And in other news, grass is green.

The going pro part yes, I'm not sure I've ever seen a non senior at a senior night let alone 3. I actually like the idea, I brought it up before UCLA's senior night they should have let Aaron Holiday attend,he's not only going pro, he's graduating in 3 years so one could argue he was a senior.

This is why people are questioning the ESPN report. It's not just Arizona homers blindly chanting "Fake News", or the equivalent to what Trump supporters do, as Cheese has so kindly pointed out a few times here. The two wiretaps known are Sood and Dawkins. The timing doesn't work for Ayton OR Bowen. Schlabach or ESPN could easily clear this up if their "source" could specify on which of these two wiretaps did he/she hear what is claimed. Or perhaps there's an unknown wiretap, which isn't part of any of the evidence submitted yet. That would suggest the FBI is the source, instead of a defendant. The original report referred to the sources as being "familiar with the government's evidence." Maybe I'm reading too much into the wording used, but that reads as if it's a defendant and/or his attorneys, instead of someone involved in the investigation.

profanity has been a pretty universal way to get banned here forever, so when a new poser comes on and posts profanity in multiple posts I don't think its' surprising or embarrassing that they get banned?
