That may be one of the truest statements someone could make. After all, even Coryell took what was a 1972 team with a 4-9-1 record and turned it into a 1973 team with a ....... 4-9-1 record - his worst year. But Coryell also had Pro Bowlers like Jim Hart, Terry Metcalf, & Mel Gray; a luxury Green doesn't have.
.
My memory is fading but Coryell drafted Metcalf, I know that for sure, he coached against him in college and never forgot him. IN fact he had to fight for Metcalf, I have a book where Metcalf describes a contract meeting over lunch with Bidwill (senior) and Coryell. Bidwill says "how do you feel about playing CB?" and Coryell jumps in and so no sir MR Bidwill Terry is my starting RB. Metcalf says in the book that Coryell had to convince Bidwill he was big enough.
I also think Coryell is the coach who decide to make Hart his QB, I think he was a backup before Don took over.
With respect to Walt I just ask that people lighten up a bit and give him a chance to think it over and cool off. I was pretty anti Green a few days ago, just the buildup of all the moves that I didn't agree with or understand. But nobody called me names, and I've now come to agree with the release of Kendall for the reasons I've stated yesterday. I still question some of the moves but I never will with any coach.
The one move I think is REALLY backfiring on us now is cutting Blake so early.
I gotta wonder if we wouldn't be able to convince a team like Dallas to give us something in trade for him now that they have cut Carter? But Green did it when he did because he wanted to give Blake time to find a job, which I'm sure Blake appreciates now having landed on a playoff team.
Hopefully Walt will be back, if not I for one will miss his posts.
