That may be one of the truest statements someone could make. After all, even Coryell took what was a 1972 team with a 4-9-1 record and turned it into a 1973 team with a ....... 4-9-1 record - his worst year. But Coryell also had Pro Bowlers like Jim Hart, Terry Metcalf, & Mel Gray; a luxury Green doesn't have.

.

My memory is fading but Coryell drafted Metcalf, I know that for sure, he coached against him in college and never forgot him. IN fact he had to fight for Metcalf, I have a book where Metcalf describes a contract meeting over lunch with Bidwill (senior) and Coryell. Bidwill says "how do you feel about playing CB?" and Coryell jumps in and so no sir MR Bidwill Terry is my starting RB. Metcalf says in the book that Coryell had to convince Bidwill he was big enough.

I also think Coryell is the coach who decide to make Hart his QB, I think he was a backup before Don took over.

With respect to Walt I just ask that people lighten up a bit and give him a chance to think it over and cool off. I was pretty anti Green a few days ago, just the buildup of all the moves that I didn't agree with or understand. But nobody called me names, and I've now come to agree with the release of Kendall for the reasons I've stated yesterday. I still question some of the moves but I never will with any coach.

The one move I think is REALLY backfiring on us now is cutting Blake so early.
I gotta wonder if we wouldn't be able to convince a team like Dallas to give us something in trade for him now that they have cut Carter? But Green did it when he did because he wanted to give Blake time to find a job, which I'm sure Blake appreciates now having landed on a playoff team.

Hopefully Walt will be back, if not I for one will miss his posts.

Favorite kerouac moments:

Always pimping Wendell Bryant as a star

Always pimping Levar Fisher as going to break out

Using Madden video game as a source for player evaluation

Sorry couldnt resist! :D

:D

I don't think I've pimped Wendell Bryant as a "star", but I have said numerous times that when healthy (like at the beginning of 2003), he was a disruptive presense. I'm usually the first to say that he needs to step up his game.

Guilty as charged on Levar Fisher. I believe in the kid.

I haven't used Madden as a reference for how a player is in a long, long time. I can't believe that I've had that label hung on me for over a year.

Maybe Weis (or Weiss or Wies) heard the vicious humor that if he didn't do well in his first preseason game, he would be fired and turned down the job.

No, he just likes calling endaround passes for INTs when up by 7 when you should be running out the clock

I hope you don't do that! Weis did that in a game last year.

I haven't tried an end around on a video game since early nintendo. I do pass to run up the score/ pad my stats.

If Weis did that he is too "mean" to coach the Cardinals.

How about too stupid to coach the Cardinals? ;) His playcalling can almost be compared to our offensive playcalling last year

Now that I think about it, Walter may have been the one who proposed we hire Weis back when we were still looking for a coach. I don't want to hijack this thread since I already stated there why Weis is so stupid in that thread.

Speedy cover CB who may excel under new, tougher coverage rules.

Not exactly...

Walter Mitchell said:
Speaking of Shipp, he is the perfect running back for this offense. He's rugged and incredibly resilient. He runs hard every snap, spins off of hits and lunges forward for extra yards every single chance he gets. Aside from perhaps Priest Holmes, would you trade Marcel Shipp for any other running back in the league? I certainly wouldn't.

And then there's this gem on Marcel:

Walter Mitchell said:
Plays hurt with no perceivable let up.

In 2003, Marcel Shipp averaged 2.9 YPC in December.

Walter, via con dios.

I have enjoyed many of your posts in the past; particularly some of the in-depth football knowlege.

This "farewell" post goes into my turbo-flush, IMO.

My last (although I don't hope so) thought to you; when "hate" motivates you to action, like leaving something you love, you should really, really think about it.

As I tried to continue reading on Walt, your points are ridiculous, and further more your cardnal hating is blasphemous. Realy classy!

"Oh Denny Green has come in here and tried to fix something that's been BROKEN for 20 years!! He is to hard on us. Dave McGinnis was so nice, and we're so use to the way we do things around here, it's ok if we continue to average only 4 wins/year because he lets us lolligag."

Well Forget that noise! You've got to break some eggs to make that omlette and if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. Which you obviously are doing. I for one REALLY enjoyed your articles but this attitude has me saying keep on truckin on your way to the Dallas bandwagon, I found your statements offensive to say the least. Any TRUE cardinal fan saying they're HAPPY about Quan and Shipp's injuries ain't a true cardinal fan at all.

Buh bye!
