I guess Aldridge is the winner of this because at that size and frame he could be a franchise center down the road.

Saer Sene really has great size, 6'11 238 and hes about 19-21 years old (But who really knows with no birth records)

I really want him with one of our picks.

With our coaching staff he should learn how to shoot in no time.

Also, I think Shelden Williams probably will fall into the late teens or mid 20's. Kinda like Boozer dropped because of his lack of height.

6'8 is pretty small for a bigman thats really not athletic at all.

Certainly I wouldn't say that someone like Sheldon Williams is going to fall just because his height isn't what many of us were expecting. He's a very good shot blocker, and I expect that his wing span is quite long. we need only look at the Elton Brand to see why standing reach is the true measurement of height/length for these frontcourt players.

I also don't feel it's a problem when shooting guards are of measuring and 6-4 or 6-5, especially if they have a decent reach. It's a bigger problem for them when they are rail thin. We also need to see some of the athleticism numbers for these guys. It's also nice if they can shoot, defend, get to the basket, etc.

If someone gets a hold of all of these other numbers it would be great if they could post them here.

I can guarantee that Shelden Williams doesnt have a great wingspan.

Being a Duke fan that has watched him his entire career, his arms arent that long.The reason he blocks alot of shots and rebounds well is because he has great timing.

He will be another name on the long list of great college players from a big time school that doesnt do much in the NBA.

The Suns would NEVER draft Sheldon Williams. He'd be the perfect instant fix on defense, but there's no place to put him on offense. He demands the low block and can do little to nothing else. All his skills on offense are predicated on receiving the ball down low.

Still, I'd love to see Sheldon matched up with Elton Brand.

I think joe is right here slinslin. The TNT color guys stated that elton(6'8") has a greater reach flatfooted than Kaman(7'0"). Its part of the reason that elton is top 2 or 3 in the NBA in shotblocking. Arm length is also why Diaw does better defending in the low block than his 6'8" would suggest.

Brand has a reputation as a good defender like Marion but I haven't seen him lockdown anyone really. Of course I said unless they are special players it will hurt them. Iverson, Wade, Brand are example of good undersized players but still size is limiting them.

Well thats not a very good argument since it's not like there are going to be a ton of centers coming in. Also I don'think Brand is any taller than 6'8 in shoes, he's noticably shorter than Tim Thomas. His interior defense is quite goo too imo. I think he and Duncan are the 2 best post defenders in the league though he isn't effective when he is taken away from the basket.

Elton Brand is the heart of a very good defensive Clippers team. I'm amazed Brand's defensive performance is even being questioned these days. Brand-for-Chandler/Skinner now ranks as one of the all-time steals -- primarily because Brand is such a complete player.

Height from head to toe is overrated. This is the post-modern NBA. Reach and mobility have been proven to be much more important.

Slin, what exactly are you arguing here? Teams love height, but it's well-known that a good standing reach is more important to them these days. Hell, you are almost better off being a little bit shorter with an incredible reach because it's deceptive. People still try to shoot over Elton brand because they think they can get away with it because he is short for a 4-5.

Btw there's no way he is 6-9 unless he's wearing shoes that are 1.5" thick.

It's standing reach, build/mass, and athleticism. 10-15 years ago a team might have gotten hung up on your height even if you had arms down to your ankles. Today these teams see what's important.

I guess I just don't think as much of Elton Brand as some others do. Sure he is a nice player who puts up good stats. But I don't see him dominate games. Why? Probably because he doesn't have great size to do so, yeah he can compensate for it but it still hurts him to be rather short 4.
All I am saying is that if you have players that are short, to me that would immediately raise a flag of how good he can be in the NBA. I don't want a 6'4 SG unless he has allstar talent or I don't expect more than a career bench player out of the pick.

Redick at 6'4 and being so skinny, he will not be able to hold his own defensively in the NBA.

Every year, NBA Draft fanatics hold their breath in anticipation to see how prospective NBA draftees weigh in at the pre-draft camp. There are those who can single-handedly raise their draft stock simply by being measured as taller than expected or shorter than expected. This year is no different, as impressions of certain players can change with a measuring tape or a scale.

Recently, DraftExpress posted the results of the pre-draft camp measurements and most of the results were as expected, aside from a few glaring outcomes.

Winners:

Ronnie Brewer – Weighing in a 6’7” and 223 pounds, Brewer will be a very unique point forward who should be considered by teams who want to draft a valuable sixth man. Brewer has the ability to play three or even four positions, similar to Boris Diaw. Like Diaw, Brewer is known for his selflessness and court vision.

Jordan Farmar – Measuring at taller than 6’0” was the hope and the result was 6’2”, which certainly will not hurt the stock of the UCLA standout point guard.

Randy Foye – If scouts buy into Foye’s viability as a point guard in the NBA, they should be impressed with his size at 6’3” and 212 pounds. Foye is similar in size to Baron Davis or Chauncey Billups, both of whom (mostly Billups) have been successful NBA point guards.

Patrick O’Bryant – Claims that he’s a project and at a legit 7’0” and 250 pounds, that’s certainly a good start.

Tyrus Thomas – Many expected that he’d be shorter than advertised and wire thin, but Thomas looks to have added nearly 10 pounds to his frame and measured at around his projected height.

Shawne Williams – The freshman out of Memphis measured at a smidge under 6’9” and 227 pounds, which shows up as an NBA-ready body on paper.

Losers:

LaMarcus Aldridge – Teams would have loved to see him put on a few pounds to prove that he could develop a body suited for the center position. He’s just under a legit 7’0” and under 240 pounds, which indicates that he falls just short of the league’s expectation for centers.

Rodney Carney – Has always been listed at 6’7” or 6’8” and for him to measure at under 6’6” is a definite blow to his stock. Carney is a great athlete, but how many successful small forwards in the league are under that height? It reminds me of Jarvis Hayes’s measurements a few years back.

Paul Millsap – For a player with his natural talents, I’m certain that most general managers were hoping that he would reach 6’8”, but Millsap measured below that. Either way, it will be hard for a team that needs rebounding to turn him down.

Adam Morrison – His height was expected, but with his agent recently talking about his desire to gain weight, weighing in at under 200 pounds cannot help his stock, which has recently been soaring. Regardless, Morrison is still the favorite to go at the top pick if the Raptors trade out.

Not a lot of surprises here Sene and both Williams as well as Gay and Carney seem to have pretty big wingspans for their size. Hilton Armstrong now officially smaller than Aldridge, Simmons and not much taller than Williams.

Aldridge is tied for the third biggest wingspan behind Sene and O'Bryant.

Farmar and Reddick had the 3rd and 4th shortest wingspan measured. Only a 5'9 player measured barely shorter as well as McNamara.

Updated with standing reaches. Shelden Williams reach is only 8'8 so concerns about him being able to guard centers and bigger PF seems justified. LaMarcus Aldridge and O'Bryant are the only legit prospects with a reach of atleast 9'2.

It would be very nice if they published ACCURATE size information on guys after they enter the NBA.

BTW, if the size issue dominates, it might mean some lottery guy might fall to 21. For example, Brewer is a guy who might get downgraded, but looks like a guy who could contribute on the Suns.
