Those are disappointing measurements for Sheldon Williams. He does have one of the longest wing spans in the draft, but apparently that didn't translate into a good standing reach.

If you believe what you read though, Williams already has a promise from Atlanta at #5 that makes no sense at all.

Speaking about actual heights, I've always wondered how tall Nash really is.. He's listed at 6'3" but somehow I have a feeling he's shorter than that. Besides why does he get referred to as 'Little Stevie' all the time?

I imagine some of you guys, esp. those in Phoneix must've seen him in real life. How tall is the dude in your estimation?

From draftexpress with wingspans

http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1344

Aldridge 7'4 3/4
Shelden Williams 7'4 1/4
Shawn Williams 7'3
Saer Sene 7'8 1/2
Cedric Simmons 7'4 1/4
O'Bryant 7'5 3/4

Kind of funny Redick's wingspan is shorter than he is tall.

Has anyone in the draft EVER had a 7-8+ wingspan before? I know Mings was somewhere around 7-4. That has to make for a huge standing reach (unless the guy has a really huge head or a really long neck--and yes, it can make a difference).

I don't know what scouts think of Taj Gray, but he must drag his knuckles on the ground. At 6'7.5", his standing reach (8'-11")is only two inches shorter than 7-footer Aaron Gray's (9'-1"). Taj would be a good pick at #27, I think. He would fit in better than most of the higher rated prospects.

Ford posted the list of the pre draft camp athletic measurements, things like vertical jump and benchpress.

The biggest surprise was the winner of the "max vertical jump", Jordan Farmar at 42 inches. They measure 2 ways, no step vertical, and max(assume it means running start they didn't really explain). Ford said with his jump and his strength tests, Farmar really helped himself, as did Brandon Roy who was considered an average athlete but tested out above average. David Noel came out the top rated athlete overall, Brewer was 2nd and probably boosted himself in the process.

Among the worst athletes were Yemi Nicholson and Patrick O'Bryant. One of the biggest losers may be Marcus Williams who tested out below even an injured Gerry McNamara, Marcus tied for dead last in max vertical jump.

That said, he's still a better PG than Farmar right now, but I'm amazed NBA teams don't seem concerned about his laptop theft incident in college.

one of the sleepers in this draft is Louisville's Taquan Dean. He's one of the best pure shooters in the draft.

Being a Bearcat, I've watched him play numerous times from the stands right from the C-USA days. His supporting cast sucked this year and that probably made his stock fall. He can flat out take over a game and kill the opponents in just a few minutes with his 3 point shooting. He's not that effective at the point.

He is an excellent defender who takes on the opponent's biggest offensive perimeter threat. He has a pretty sculpted body as well.

We have the following SGs now:
Bell
Barbosa
House (he might leave this year. in any case, he's a pure reg season player)

I've not thought about the overall composition of the team but if they are looking for a SG who can run and rain 3 pointers, Dean could be a good pick up.

I think max vertical is just jump as high as you can by any means(pretty sure most players use a running start but some jump off one leg and others jump off 2).

Yeah that's my guess, otherwise they would have just said 1 foot jump. What surprises me is how low the jumps are after seeing the NFL combine results on vertical jump. I guess the speed and explosion training they do for the NFL combine is the answer.

I knew Farmar had hops, I've seen a couple of dunks and blocks at UCLA that showed it, but in practical play situations he's not nearly as good a leaper as some of the other guys.

I have a hard time believing some of the NFL vert numbers. Especially when guys like Winston Justice say they've had 40" jumps.

I read a very interesting article in National Geographic awhile back that said that the athletes with the highest verticle leaps are Olympic weight lifters.

They said that they have to have incredible explosion in their legs to get huge weights from the floor to above their chest or directly overhead (as in the clean and jerk).

They had an amazing photo of this huge (fat looking) weight lifter way off the floor--more than 4 feet (but his legs were bent some).

All that to say that I can easily believe that the type of training in the NFL produces huge verticals.
