If the Cards re-sign Breaston they won't draft Newton because they'll already have a slot receiver locked up...

Yay! With all the "no way on Cam" talk, I think we might actually get him. Whiz is the man again, I know he loves the shotgun hand off. Larry loves him some Cam, and was in the building, probably telling Whiz we have a chance to get him now.
If yall can diss, I can dream.:)

If it's a huge mistake you have better than 50 50 odds we'll make it.

Statistics are on your side.:)

Agreed..... I am a huge Newton guy but he really didn't impress me at all.

In fact, he made some throws that showed more about how much work he needs. That throw on the goal line that went into the ground was horrible. And although his arm strength is amazing, I think #5 might be too much for a kid with his coaching needs.

But hey..... The kid is a talent, and the combine will probably make his stock rise.

Wonder what he will score on the wonderlic.

Now for Nick Fairley.... DAMN!!! That kid is a MONSTER.

No question Newton is a freak athlete and his stock will go back on potential alone. I was caught up within the hype of him earlier in the year but using a much more critical eye, I saw all sorts of red flags.

- He missed 2 WIDE OPEN TDS and when I say WIDE OPEN I mean nobody within 5 yards.

- Had 2 horrid turnovers

- He stared his primary receiver down the entire time and when he wasn't open, he ran.

- He had some poor footwork and made some decisions at critical times (their running game and D saved them).

He's way too much of a project for 5 especially for a FO/HC that feel pressure to win now.

"Whiz loves the shot-gun hand off"

Because he calls it about 3 times a game?

Whiz loves passing way more.

Newton did not have a good game today. Guy lost himself some money even though his team won. Before this game I would have been okay with him at #5. Now I don't want him that early.

Hey dawg, I admire that you're standing by your guy but the Cards wont sniff the Super Bowl if they draft the kid. Isn't that the goal?

He beat the only undefeated team, what more can he do? You guys are really incredible tonight. To say there is a better option at QB with Luck staying in school is crazy.
To say we shouldn't go for the best QB available, a guy who can keep defenses honest, avoid sacks by throwing and running is just coo-coo.

Cards need him more than any other team with our O-line problems.

You don't just draft a position of need in the top 5...regardless if it's a QB. Remember Levi Brown? The Cards have to hit on the #5 pick...no mistakes, we have to come away with a legit big time player!!! Too much uncertanty is there with Newton, Mallet or Gabbert. Take the BPA!!!

He didn't run to avoid sacks as when he was pressured, he typically went down. His running were often designed runs or when coverage was tough and there wasn't anyone near him.

There's uncertainty all around you.

This is where scouts earn their dough, to remove most of that, and if you evaluate a QB and he passes all your tests you take one there, no matter what others grade him at.

QB's are rare like diamonds, they last for hopefully 10 to 15 years and can help you win multiple titles as the players around them change.

No other position does that, QB's are different, period.

Having said all that, we should lose every game next year and draft Luck.

:) JK.

I like Fairley. But problem is there are just to many holes on this team to take another DT at #5..We NEED a pass rusher in the worst possible way.

Go to a 4-3, draft Fairley for the 3 gap, move Dan Williams to the 1 gap, move Dockett to strong side end. Problem solved and, really, what team is going to run at the A or B gap? It also solves the LB problem. You can have smaller, quicker LBs with that front line. Draft someone like Justin Houston in the second round as a tweener in a mixed 4-3/3-4 pass rusher on the weakside and ...

Shoot, someone just make me GM now. I'm solving problems.

I agree with everything you say. Quick, name me 1 NFL QB who isn't a pocket passer who has won a Super Bowl? Newton isn't that diamond.

IMO you are wasting Dockett at DE. He just isnt quick enough.

I'm ok with that but you'll need to fist fight the coach you inherited he's a 3-4 guy.

I stand by my earlier posts in this thread.

Not NFL ready. one read and run QB. Sick talent. Not an NFL QB.

He would be a good TE though...

No fracking way at #5, people.

Also you still don't have a really good pass rush with that line up. Neither DE is scaring people.
