Graves agree to a contract on day one of FA??

:biglaugh:

Remember Stewart Bradly and Kevin Kolb? How long did it take for the organization to get out of those awful five-year contracts?

The team wasn't a millimeter from being a legit SB contender during that tenure either. Sometimes you have to roll the dice when the wind is small and ours is VERY small.

There has to be a limit set for every FA they are going after. At some point you just have to walk away when they're asking more than you value them. As much as we need a pass rusher, there are other ways to win games.

ESPN just said Vernon going to Giants. Wow.

Makes you wonder if they'll renege on JPP.

The only guy I'm dissapointed in not getting is Mack. We have a lot $$ invested in the OL but he only got 18m guarantees. I'm sure they could've easily cut ties after 3 years.

So, obviously today wasn't as exciting as some hoped. What players are still out there that could improve this team. CB Sean Smith? DE Jaye Howard? Weddle? Gipson? What OG's are left?

But would you say that if it garnered the trophy? Hard to Quantify a price if it works in your favor die say. Not saying he would but we'll never know.

It worked out nicely for the donkeys didn't it? :D
They went crazy in FA a couple of years ago needing only a couple of pieces & got an all pro secondary & a HOF OLB out of it!

Meh...I have no problem with the direction the Cards are taking free agency. They put out competitive offers to JPP and Hali, and both guys decided to stay put. Oh well. Don't make a knee-jerk reaction by throwing money at the next guy on the list. Plenty of options available who are lower risk with similar upside. Alan Branch is worth a lower contract. Hayes from St Louis can rush. Ayers is a situational rusher, but that can work. The secondary will need work, but Jenkins is too risky for that money.

It is all good.
I still say the Cards should went all in with Hali & Mack & added another mid tier CB (which we still could). The Cards must play almost perfect football in the playoffs to hoist the Lombardi as of right now.

I'm not sure about that. The upgrade from Sendlein to Mack would be much greater than from Okafor/Freeney to Vernon, who is about the best pass rusher left.

Veldheer, Iupati, Mack gives 3 pro bowl caliber linemen. Granted, the right side, assuming Humphries and Cooper are the guys, has a lot to prove but they are both talented 1st rounders. However, they yet to show it in the NFL.

So we didnt upgrade our pass rush or upgrade our own line fabulous

That's highly disappointing. Sometimes you have to move your chips to the center of the poker table when you have 3 Queens & an ace in hand & 1 more card on the flop like the Big Red do.

Should've went all in with Hali & Mack.

Not with the money that's being thrown around. I'd like to get some good talent but I'm not willing to overpay for it. Especially considering we have our own players to try to hold onto next season.

I mostly agree with this. I would overpay for a pass rusher but I wouldn't drop my shorts and ........ like some of these teams are doing. There is over paying and then there is just being stupid.

Have any of last year's playoff teams made any significant signings? I guess Houston but they don't count.

Olivier Vernon to Giants
$85 million over 5 years
Career Stats:29 sacks over 4 years-7.25 sacks per year

Bruce Irvin to Raiders
$37 million for 4 years
Career Stats:22 sacks over 4 years-5.5 sacks per year

Malik Jackson
$85.5 million for 6 years
Career Stats:14 sacks over 4 years-3.5 sacks per year

Now in all fairness Jackson's contract is front loaded (starts out as a two-year, $31.5 million pact) which the Cardinals could not afford. The trigger for the rest of the deal is a $10.5 million portion of his $13.5 million salary in 2018 – guaranteed for injury only at signing – that would become fully guaranteed of the fifth day of the 2018 league year. So, the Jaguars will have a choice at that point on whether the former Denver Broncos defensive end is worth the investment.

What I do not see in all of this is a great pass rusher in any one of them especially for the money they are getting.
