For those of you who were upset about no press conference while BA is on vacation:

Arians is out of town. A press conference is expected in the near future.

The team hired Bob Sanders, who was the Packers’ defensive coordinator from 2006-2008 and coached on the Raiders’ staff the last two seasons with linebackers, to coach Arizona's linebackers. Sanders was a college assistant for 22 years before breaking into the NFL in 2001 coaching linebackers (and Pro Bowler Zack Thomas) with the Dolphins. He also spent time on the staff of the Bills.

Arians also promoted Mike Chiurco, a former Colts scout and high school coach who had spent the last two years as Arians’ assistant, to Slowik’s old defensive assistant/assistant defensive backs coach job.
Wesley Goodwin, who had spent the last six seasons as a coach at Clemson, was hired to take over Chiurco’s old job as Arians’ assistant.

more

Arians said last week there were still hires he had not made yet, and was still hoping to bring on an ex-player to groom on the staff. Multiple reports say veteran linebacker Larry Foote, who is a free agent and who said he hadn’t decided yet whether to keep playing, would be a coaching candidate if he did decide to retire.

I really hope they can get Foote on staff. Interesting about Alosi. Weren't there some posts here regarding him and some of the injuries??

I guess we just have to roll with this decision

Not impressed, but will wait to see how the rest of the staff fills out

Are we replacing the Special Teams coach?

Based on the initial reactions from the posters here, I am pretty excited about this hire even more. Seems on par with the Bowles hiring so far. ;)

Obviously he sucks, since he doesn't have an impressive resume, just like the last clown Arians hired to be DC.

To think, Arians let a division rival hire Pendergast.

I'm content with it, only because I have faith that BA has a very clear and decisive plan when it comes to his coaching hires. We knew very early on that Bowles was going to be the choice here, and Bruce wasn't going to let one of his young staff members lose their promotion to Dick LeBeau, thus the promotion of Bettcher. Consistency is very important, and hopefully this will pay off in terms of of that.

Don't know much about him, but trust Arians. I did know about Bowles and was optimistic he'd do well (no idea how well he'd do though).

I would LOVE to have another young coach roll up through Bruce.

Are there questions about Bettcher, at 36, getting this job, especially after what Bowles was able to accomplish? Sure. There’s no arguing that. But Arians (and Bowles) had to have seen enough of Bettcher the past two seasons to feel comfortable with this ascension. Bettcher is a good guy who, from my vantage point, has respect of the players. Just last week, safety Tyrann Mathieu said “I think I’ve heard enough and I’m confident enough to know we’ve been playing too well to have the scheme change. We look forward to one of our position coaches being DC.”
The way Mathieu was talking, he knew Bettcher was the choice already, so I read the comment through that prism.
— Bob Sanders has a long history of coaching some pretty good linebackers — Kahlil Mack had a very nice rookie season this year under Sanders with the Raiders — so that looks like it could be a promising hire. He also spent some time as defensive coordinator with the Packers, so that puts someone else on the staff who is experienced in such a role. Even without a direct “mentor,” Bettcher could use that to his advantage.

We won’t know for a few days at least why exactly Bruce Arians picked James Bettcher to be his new defensive coordinator. Arians is on vacation this week, so the press conference to discuss Wednesday’s news is on hold until Arians returns.

for your press conference concerns

Heard this on the Bickley radio show today.

When Karlos Dansby was told that the Cardinals new DC is James Bettcher his response was: Where did he come from?

I guess Bettcher did not make a big impression as LB coach last year (2013) when Karlos was with the Cards..
