The Cards slogan this year is "All In". Since Michael has come on board (sans last year) this team has spent money. Countless "experts" have stated that FA isn't the way to build a team and more busts then hits occur.

Obviously the Cards need to do more in FA this year for obvious reasons. I don't want or expect them to sign 5 high priced Vet FA's this year but I do expect several mid tier signings along with the big splash being at QB and one other position.

Cards always play by the rules, good on them. For our fans to think we won't do much of anything in FA is (as Azfinest put it) SOCFans. This team had a "one off" year in 2010 and it will NOT be repeated in 2011. So while I understand some of the drama by several long term outstanding Cards fans I do have to say; "Settle down Sally". This is not your fathers Cards team and I have ZERO doubt that positions of need will be addressed this offseason.

That's a reasonable point of view. But the Cards, once again, appear to be creating positions of need by losing their Unrestricted Free Agents. How do you build a team through the draft when every time your draft picks become free agents you let them go play somewhere else and have to replace them with new draft picks and older free agents?

We have 3 of our draft picks on the roster on their 2nd contract with Arizona. It is possible that after this FA period we will only have 4 guys left on the roster who were drafted before 2008. How is that building your core?

3-8 year players win Championships not 1-3 year players coupled with 8-10 year players.

That many big free agent signings on the FIRST day free agents can sign WITHOUT ANY visits would be completely unprecedented for the Cards. I'm sorry, but even if Jesus himself was tweeting all this I'd have a hard time believing it (Sorry Big Guy!), much less Jurecki.

But, maybe they just have to be different this year considering the circumstances.

Great point duck. It is a big concern going forward, and one very unlikely to be fixed by free agency.

The 2nd part is the key. The circumstances are forcing everyone to rush. Heck, they're going up to Flag on Saturday

It kind of reminds me of ... 1993? ... when they signed a bunch of free agents like Steve Beurlein. They had a bunch of young talent on defense like Eric Hill, Ken Harvey, Eric Swann, Aeneas Williams -- and some old talent, too, like Freddie Jo Nunn. They just needed to pump up the offense. Ended up being a very good 7-9 in one of the toughest divisions ever. But that and Buddy Ryan's antics with his old players kinda ruined the Bidwills on free agency.

Man ... those early 90s Bugel teams probably would've dominated the current NFC West. They were just stuck in the toughest division in football.

I agree, this year has Sendlein, Branch, Lutui and Breaston as the should re-sign players. Breaston has the knee concern but man he is a bleeds red kinda guy. I HATE that we may not re-sign him. Sendlein would be the biggest WTF if we don't retain him. Branch is a bit of a wild card in that he may be one of those players who wants to see the other side of the fence. Hope we re-sign him. Lutui is in the I want him re-signed but his weight issue may be too much to overcome. By that I mean he screwed up and we could have handled his situation better.

Since OG is a deep FA class then Lutui's loss isn't as big a concern. Some would say the same at WR but I have nothing but love for Stevie. I expect Sendlien (sorry Rugby) and Branch to be re-signed and hope the other 2 are retained as well,

If none are kept in the fold then the Cards failed at some level this offseason,

Once again I agree with your overall thesis, Let's hope the Cards get beyond this kind off situation and start keeping their own more often,

it's a glaring indictment of ineptitude from our FO, ESPECIALLY considering that a lot of those guys who left didn't end up bums... they ended up Pro-Bowlers/very good players.

This brings up my other concern with this constant turnover. I really believe that if you have 2 players and one is rated a 79 on the THESMEL chart and another is an 83 but the 79 guy has been on your team for 5 years and a starter for four years you are much better off keeping the 79er.

Yes and No. Boldin we received draft pick for. Rolle replaced by Rhodes. Dansby...OUCH. Lutui hasn't happene yet. Breaston same thing but.... I want him back big time. Pace, most everyone said good luck and goodbye when the contract was announced. I wish he was still with us. DRC, I'm good if he stays or if he is part of the solution to fixing the QB issue.

So yes we need to do a better job of re-signing our own. I'm not however at the edge of a cliff picking out potential landing/splat spots.

- Excellent points. I like talking about the old days, even though they were so horribly painful to live through...

- FWIW, Tullouch and Lawson would be great additions. James Jones scares me a bit with those big spot drops, but that can be improved.

Well if you are using THESMEL chart then nothing makes any kind of sense. But I would prefer to keep a 79 guy instead of adding a 83 guy.

Call me a sucker but I still have hope. I separate the pre-stadium Cards from the current Cards. Only time will tell whether last year was an aberration or a sign of things to come. I'll keep my hope until that question gets answered.

I don't mean for this to be a "love 'em or leave 'em post, but if you don't have hope, why stick around? It's an honest question. All Cardinals fans have ... is hope.

Did some further checking today on 49ers OLB Manny Lawson. Cardinals haven't expressed interest.

Saw that. Looks like Jurecki and Somers are on different pages.

Looks like I may owe Ed and apology if more of these players drop off :)
