letting him go will be just another all-time Cardinal blunder. the guy bleeds red, has really good skills and is young. you just can't let 90% of those guys go every time their first contract runs out.

not surprised others are interested -- but keep in mind, that is from his agent.

"interested" might be the same as "gave me a phone call"

Truth.

I will be so incredibly pissed off if we let him go.

Steve is a good player and has been solid. But he is precisely the kind of player that shouldn't be all that hard to replace IMO. If Roberts continues to improve at the rate he did last year we will be fine.

from someone who really likes Steve Breaston:

I am not convinced he is a true #2 WR.

Almost all his production came as a #3 guy. My fear is that some WR needy team will be willing to take the chance that he is a #2 and pay him as such.

WR is one of the positions that is very deep this year. I love Breaston and would like him back for the right price. However his knee does scare the hell out of me. If another team overpays to steal him away then so be it.

We could always replace him with one of the many FA WRs that are available. Lance Moore opposite of Fitzgerald sounds good to me.

Yep. I agree. And if this means no more poems, I am good.

Steve Breaston could be replaced easily with 10 other guys on the free agent market, with quite a few being upgrades.

I'd like to keep Breaston, but lets not act like letting Breaston go was like not resigning Lomas Brown, Jamir Miller, or Karlos Dansby.

Maybe, but I still don't want him off the team.

and then who replaces Roberts on the depth chart? one of our undrafted FA from last year who were horrendous... or Mr. Glass?

We were good when we had a QB and weapons on offense... Fitz, Q and Breaston. Roberts is completely untested, the other guys suck or can't stay on the field. again, you just can't continue to lose every single young talent that ends their first contract... especially since this team HASN'T shown it's just as easy to replace a guy like Breaston. They sure as hell didn't have that replacement last season.

Hope we keep Breaston but if we cant due to cap issues or whatever I hope we atleast do a sign and trade, there is obviously interest in him, the Cardinals need to UNlearn the subtle art of getting nothing for something.

I like Breaston. I really do. But if we could get a guy like Steve Smith (NYG) across from Fitz, we're a better team as a result, IMO.

If we can find a way to retain him and for it to make sense for both the Cards and Breaston, great. But I don't think it's the end of the world for him to walk.

Now, that said, we have so many other holes in the team (yes, I'm looking at you, QB) that I don't honestly see the Cardinals being proactive in finding a true #2 WR this offseason. So, it might make sense to try hang on to Stevie for that reason alone.

Agreed! I love the kid, but if some team is going to over-pay him to be a #2 WR, I'd let them. He gave us some great years in the Kurt Warner era, but I'm not sure if he'll ever be a solid return man again and the knee injury scares me, especially with the new injury rules in the CBA.

Bringing back Breaston is all about price for me. I like him, but the guy has 7 TDs in 4 seasons, he'll be 28 this season and he has knee problems. He's far from irreplaceable.

+1

One of the reasons it is so hard to root for this team. I know it is the modern day NFL and there is always going to be change, but the Cardinals take it to a new level.

It seems like, 90% as you say, of players that seem to have any future and/or skill are usually gone the minute their rookie contract is up.

Sucks. Not only does it hurt the team, it hurts merchandise sales, and just about everything else.

Losing Steve Breaston will bite this squad in the butt.

I agree that Roberts could fill the role Breaston had. However I would still like to bring in a solid slot WR as Doucet hasn't proven he can stay healthy for more than a handful of games. By not spending the money on Breaston we could land one of several quality WR who could line up in the slot.
