Maybe, but by reading the other posts you can see we are not all hating, just giving our opinions and expectations. Thread titles are like newspaper headlines, just there to get your attention and then the facts come later.
I never said everyone was hating on him I just said I think it's odd that it comes up essentially every week, just like it used to with CC.
I don't think he's a great tackler, I don't think he's a "puss" either, if he was, he wouldn't be in the NFL.
I also think if he played the way Mitch and others seem to want him to play, he wouldn't have gone 7 full NFL seasons without missing a single game.
I already used the Dykstra example last week so this week I'll use another one to make a point. Baseball fans for years lauded Cal Ripken Jr for his consecutive games streak, iron man, tough guy, role model etc. And then people like Bill James came along and pointed out that by insisting on playing every game to try and catch Gehrig's record, he was actually hurting the team and being selfish, and had the stats to back it up, that showed his numbers fell off precipitously in the 2nd half virtually every year after a certain point because he got tired. But there's this sports mentality that says players have to be "tough" and he was proving how tough he was and fans ate it up.
I agree with others it's possible for him to be both a great cover corner, and soft against the run.
I also see some stuff on here that puzzles me. When we played SF people complained he got caught by Goodwin, who might be the single fastest player in the NFL(track star). Yesterday the complaint was he didn't catch the KO return from behind even though at the point the guy broke containment Peterson was past him having run full speed 45 yards and then had to turn around and try to catch a guy with a head start who was going full speed. If you watch the replay at the point where Bethel has the best shot at him and doesn't get him and Lockett goes through the hole and breaks free, PP actually tries to slam on the brakes, semi slips, and then turns and starts giving chase. He's about 5 yards behind Lockett, but Lockett is going full speed and PP is just turned and starting to after him. If you google it, Lockett ran a 4.4 40 at the combine 2 years ago. So you take a guy that fast at full speed with a 5 yard headstart on a guy who's turning around to chase him I don't think it's surprising PP didn't catch him.
I don't know if it was him running out of bounds during the chase that prompted the original post or what I don't even know if that was the play that prompted it but it just seems almost every week now we have a thread about PP. You see it in the game threads too a guy will catch a pass against PP and immediately we're told how overrated PP is. It's like people expect perfection from him.
