5:10 p.m.: If the Suns have a deal in place with Golden State, the Suns are thrilled after Minnesota took two point guards without tabbing Curry. There was just a cheer from Phoenix's basketball operations office when the sixth pick was announced. This deal might not be announced tonight because of base-year compensation on Andris Biedrins. The Suns were hoping Stephen Curry or Jordan Hill would fall and be available at the Warriors' seventh pick. Now, both are. Hill might be more of a need help but the Suns might be surprised that Curry is even possible. The Suns have liked Curry for a long time, dating back to a time in the scouting process when they thought he might be there at No. 14.

5:20 p.m.: There is a strong possibility that the Stephen Curry pick was made for the Suns. It seems Phoenix was concerned Curry would be taken with one of Minnesota's two picks. We could be looking at an announcement next week that Amare Stoudemire is going to Golden State in a deal for Andris Biedrins, Stephen Curry and some other Warriors players like Marco Belinelli and/or Brandan Wright.

Curry is a smoother version of Barbosa, it wouldn't make sense to keep Barbosa in that case.

If this is a done deal, we have to start moving some guards. J-Rich, Bellenelli, Azubuike, Barbosa, Curry, Dragic, and Nash is a little ridiculous. Not to mention, having Brandan Wright start at power forward will be a recipe for disaster.

The only thing I can think of is that a condition of the trade and contract is that Amare passes a physical. I don't think any NBA team is going to allow another team to examine their player before a trade is agreed upon right?

I thought you could. A player could pass a physical but still have some issues that only an indepth analysis could provide... ie, sending him off to specialists

Depends, lots of deals are made contingent on a player passing a physical. Wouldn't an eye exam be part of a physical?

The Suns landed their man in Thursday night's draft before their pick ever came up.

Golden State's selection of Davidson point guard Stephen Curry at No. 7 was made for the Suns as part of an Amaré Stoudemire trade that can't be completed until Wednesday. That is because Phoenix would be acquiring Warriors center Andris Biedrins, a base-year compensation player, as part of a Stoudemire deal that would include more Warriors players, possibly power forward Brandan Wright and/or shooting guard Marco Belinelli.

The Suns were hoping they could land Curry or Arizona power forward Jordan Hill with the Warriors' seventh pick but had their choice after Minnesota took neither with its fifth and sixth picks.

Curry, the 21-year-old, 6-foot-3 son of former NBA 16-year shooter Dell Curry, is a tremendous shooter with a variety of ways to score who also has shown court vision and passing instincts despite playing with teammates far from his level.

Whatever the package, the Suns would also probably accomplish some payroll and luxury tax savings for the coming year because Biedrins is slated to make $9 million in the coming season and Stoudemire will be at $16.4 million.

Biedrins will make $9 million each year through the 2013-14 season. He is a 23-year-old Latvian 7-footer who plays with a high-revving motor that makes him a good rebounder and defender, although he is foul-prone. He is limited offensively but would be able to run with the Suns' fast-paced ways. He averaged 11.9 points and 11.2 rebounds in his fifth season with Golden State.

Stoudemire's contract goes through 2010-11 with a $17.7 million player option but the All-Star starter could opt out of it and be a free agent next summer.

what's the point in holding to Nash if Amare gets traded?

Cause you reload with a bunch of young bigs to run with Nash. He wants to run - that's why he asked that they move Shaq. He also misses Marion's defense on the pick n roll. Which may be why he's ok with moving Amare at this point. Remember, Nash had his most 'fun' besides the first MVP year when Amare was down and they ran with Bell, Marion and Diaw.

The question is how far that team goes and if Nash is in it for the rest of his career and retires a Sun, or just a year or two, then off to NY with Lebron?

I like the deal but I hope we're not sending Clark to GS. Id be fine w/ sending Clark to OKC though for our 2010 back because our record is going to be horrid next year.

Assuming the GS deal for Amare is true, I'll be utterly shocked if the Suns trade Nash. I would assume he is aware of their plans, approves, and will sign an extension.

These trades and keeping Nash allows the Suns to stay competitive while rebuilding.

First, that has always been the franchise tradition (whether fans like it or not).

Second, there is a HUGE, HUGE financial difference between having a Nash-lead young and run team trying for a playoff spot next year, with hope for the future, and a completely young team with only LB and Amundson from the old guard.

A 15-20 win team without a just drafted bonifide superstar (DHo, CP3, Jordan, Magic,etc) will not sell out the arena and merchandise. Once you start losing money on the operation like that, it is all downhill for a franchise.

Kerr basically just announced to the world on ESPN that Nash and Amare are available. He said everyone is calling for them and they are a team in "transition". Remember that Nash has said in the past he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuilding team. Nash could be gone.

Also, if the Suns don't get any young or veteran defensive talent after this draft (or related trades), this draft was useless.

if you don't keep nash, you can sign a max player in 2010. If you somehow move barbosa maybe even 2 max players. Unfortunately people actually have to want to come play for your team to make that possible.

Who are the free agents after the big names, lebron/wade/amare/bosh? I know joe johnson, somehow I don't see that as a possibility. Who else?
