Can we wait until Friday when Warner announces his future before we get in huge arguments about Leinart's credentials as a starter? Nothing wrong with discussing it but until we know whether Warner is here or not it is just wasted breath to get upset about.

Do you really think he called a presser to say "See ya'll next year?"

I think people are too quick to write off Leinart.

The game against TN is an unfair way to judge him, if you want to judge him negatively. He was not the starter in practice that week, in fact Somers even said there were a couple of plays in that game that Leinart had never run before--NOT EVEN IN PRACTICE--he specifically mentioned the pass to Beanie on the sideline (which was a perfect pass by the way). He ran a limited offense in the first half and then Whisenhunt seemed to open up the playbook in the second half and Leinart played well.

No Leinart will never be the same QB as Warner--few QBs are. Leinart can be an effective QB with an offense tailored to him--we have the pieces in place for that--Beanie & Hightower will provide the running game Leinart never had as a starter early in his career...heck remember that game against the Viking where he threw for that record number of yards that was because we couldn't run the ball at all and completely abandoned the running game early on.

My biggest worry about Leinart is his durability.

Do people here still wish we drafted Cutler? That idiot is such a jerk that potential OC's are shying away from the job in Chicago as they deem him uncoachable (Jeff George).

LOL...Ok And Nick Saban is not going to Alabama. ANd Brett Favre is not coming back. Yes todays news is ...McNabb loves Philly. a month from now...He will love Arizona. :D

You are bringing the Nick Saban situation in? Man you are really delusional. Mutually exclusive buddy.

Plus McNabb has a hefty contract. One of the bright spots of Warner retiring is that we can focus on solidifying the defense and getting an OT with the extra money. Hopefully, the Bidwills allocate that money to improving the defense and not pocketing it. With that said, take your #5 McNabb jersey off. He's not coming here. End of story.

The best QB I can imagine signing here is Sage Rosenfels. And he is no threat to take Leinart's job.

So here is the new starting QB for YOUR Arizona Cardinals. Deal with it, or find a new team....

it's pretty bad when a coach would rather go to Oakland and try to fix Russel than go work with Cutler. I guess it's the lesser of two evils. You can go work with a lazy headcase that doesn't care if he's any good or a lazy headcase that THINKS he's too good.

It's not enough--at least for me--to say that Leinart sucks. He might, but we don't have a body of evidence to support that yet.

But Leinart is clearly superior to nothing, and that's what's available out there on the open market.

One more thing to consider. Warner was horribly inconsistent, couldn't win in Arizona at all (3-12 as a starter in PHX), and was considered by many to be washed up when Whisenhunt came to the Valley.

Within half a season KW had KW playing back at KW's HOF level once Leinart was injured and KW became the sole starter.

How do we know that the Whiz can't work the same magic with Leinart?

Because he hates Leinart and ML will never be his QB. Haven't you read all the posts about that?

Mitch, sometimes I wonder if you think Leinart is Denny Green in whiteface makeup

TJ Dont bet your house on Leinart is the starter. Fitz and company might have something to say. But if he is....I will root him on. I am just afraid my happiness from the last 2 years will be what I have to look forward too.

The Ravens were one of the best defenses of ALL TIME, while your team gave up the most points in the playoffs of ALL TIME. Think about that.
Alex Smith has a lower career QB rating than Leinart. Think about that.

Niner-fan arrogance is comically stupid.

And what have the 49ers done lately????

There is a reason why Mike Sando and everyone else in the world now has us looking up in the division or close to that.... if Warner retires.

They've done nothing. Just saying that even with Leinart it's no lock that we lose the division next year. SF was two full games behind us despite sweeping the season series which is a rare feat against evenly matched teams. Not to mention we'll get the QB-less Vikings instead of the Packers and the better Dallas matchup instead of Philly. If Matt puts his work in and we can upgrade the defense a little we should be in the hunt. San Francisco simply is not a very good football team now or next year.

what does scare me about the niners is they have 2 picks in the middle of the first round.

Wow do I agree with this. Who the hell cares what all the national people think that the 9ers will overtake us. That team has been no better then 8-8 since 2003. We have better weapons, a better oline and better personnel over all on defense. And we are farrrrrr superior at HC. That's not even debatable.

I too think leinart can be for this team what he was at USC. I think an offseason of practice, Wizs focus, and a year knowing he is the guy will show us what we really have. Predicting doom and gloom is useless. They should bring in a viable backup but give Matt the reigns.

The only thing I know for sure is this is going to be a looooong offseason.

But seriously don't fret about the freaking 49ers. Lol Joe Montana isn't walking through that door.

We're going to see more than 90% of the experts pick SF to win the division if Warner steps down. Let 'em yap, 90% of what they say in preseason turns out wrong anyhow.

I can't wait until we get a shot at them again. I suspect it will be game 1, in San Francisco.

I still say what I said in 2008 when Warner and Leinart were competing for the job:

No matter if it's Matt or Kurt who is the starter next season, I expect us to win and be a playoff team.

It's not so much as Leinart as it is our OL and Beanie/Tim. They'll decide where we end up in 2010. Based on their numbers last year and projected improvement due to experience both guys will be very good which means Leinart will inevitably be fine.

Exactly. The TEAM should still be good, which is all I really care about.

We're going to do a year with Matt to test drive what we got if Kurt does retire.

That's fine, get it out of the way, sink or swim.

The whole team is going to need a couple of real games to get used to him but once settled in I expect they'll find a new identity and it won't be all up to Matt to win or lose.

Hopefully they'll step up all their games, especially the defense.

Gloom is premature IMO.

Kent Somers reported it well. The Cardinal WRs don't have confidence in him, because he's so erratic. Ask Q.

Link

But he also adds:
With more practice time and confidence, Leinart should be able to correct that problem.

And starting next year you will see the Cards being transformed into what Whis invisioned when he came here.

Link

It's also true, however, that the Cardinals lacked the talent at running back to run the Steelers-like attack that everyone expected Whisenhunt to install. That all changed in 2009, however, and at running back, the Cardinals are talented enough to be dangerous running the ball for the next few years.

You will see Matt doing a lot of handing off next year, a lot of dink passing, but Matt will get enough throws downfield to keep defensives honest.

Whis knows that the defense will determine the success of this team next season and I thnk you will see the majority of our efforts will be focused there.
