As a former vet who has served in a hazardous fire zone, I didn't even want to open the Tillman thread when I saw it---I kind of already knew. I saved this thread for last, and as soon as I read the news, the tears just started to flow.

Pat has made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and the cause of freedom. I'm not normally a religious man, but God bless the Tillman family. Their son is gone, and though their pride in him and his actions cannot make up for their loss, I am sure he is already in a much better place.

Sliante, Pat!

...please retire his jersey; let it be the first one hung in the new stadium...

I second that (or third it) since it will take awhile to type this with tears in my eyes.

My most sincere prayers go to his family, Pat was loved and will be missed by an entire community. Some days you are forced to remember that football is just a game, this is one of them.

May Mr. Tillman rest in peace.

His brother James will probably be escorting Pat home, hopefully insuring his saftey.

Condolences.

Just saw the confirmation on CNBC. Tillman could have ended up being President here in another decade or two. He had that kind of greatness.

What a sad day for this country. Sad, sad, day.

When I look at other teams who have pro bowlers, Multiple championships, and guys with ego; it makes me proud to tell other fans at least we have Pat Tillman! And people are lost for words for a moment or two and they continue their insults about how the cards sucks but deep inside I know that are jealous because they don't have their own Pat Tillman that they can call their own hero...

Jesus Christ what a way to wake up. I'm hurt for Pat and his family. he is an example of ultimate selflessness, and these prima donna bastard athletes should learn a thing or two about being a man, and being more humble. RIP Pat. I'm definitely getting a 40 jersey this year.

RIP Pat Tillman...

Your heart and dedication will be sorely missed.

My prayers are with his family today.

As far as the donations go I imagine Pat would want any donations to go to a general fund for widows and orphans of fallen veterans not just to him or his family exclusively.

This idea came from another board but is a great diea none the less.

"I think the NFL should name an award after him. Maybe a leadership award or an award to a player that shows a lot of heart."

This would be a great way for the NFL to honor him.

And if the NFL doesnt do it, the Cards need to make a team award in his honor.

I wonder what they will do at the beginning of the Draft tommorow.
That is an excellent idea, abaout the Cardinals naming an award, or something, after Pat Tillman. I am sure they will wear a black armband with his number for the entire season and will have a memorial service, of some kind, prior to the opening game with the Patriots.

And pictures of Pat Tillman MUST be placed in the windows of their offices, particularly the one in Glendale which faces directly out onto Glendale Avenue.

Retire the #40!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Announce it this weekend at the Draft..... And if the NFL has any class.... they should have a moment of silence in Honor of our fallen hero...... Here's an athlete that should be a role model for America's youth.....

I am lost for words....

This is truely a sad day for Cardinal and P. Tillman fans. We have lost many servicemen and women in Afghanistan and Iraq but this one just hits home because we honored what Pat did.

If I saw Simeon Rice right now I would kick him in the nuts!!!!!

I miss all the heros of this horid war. But, Pat died today. I knew Pat, I watched him play. I watched him at ASU grow to be a man. I watched when he got drafted and peolpe said he was to slow or not strong enough. I watched him be true to himself, his team and his city. I'm going to miss Pat Tillman a lot. It brings this war very close to me.

It makes me wonder why our kids are dieing again. Pat was and is a huge hero in all the meaning of this word. I would have liked to see him play again, I would have liked to see him smile again, I would like to see his passion again. I'm truly heartbroken.Bring all our guys home soon and safe.

Brokenhearted

Tillman Field.

Amen. Corporate sponsorship be damned. Any corporation who ends up sponsoring the new stadium should be proud to call it Tillman Field. I can't think of a better way for the Cards and Card fans to honor Tillman than to name the new stadium after him.

Let's make it happen!

Very sad news. This Wildcat alum would like to express his condolences to the Tillman family and the Cardinals & Sun Devil nation. Pat was a true American. I would hope the Cardinals and ASU would honor Pat with the retirement of his jersey number.

That is what I am thinking as well.

Here are a few places to donate, all are great organizations.

1. http://www.freedomalliance.org/ - The Freedom Alliance and Hannity Scholarship Fund. Nationally syndicated radio talk show host and FOX News Channel host Sean Hannity has created a scholarship fund for children of military men and women killed or wounded during the call of duty.

Contributions to the Hannity Scholarship Fund and/or Freedom Alliance can be sent to Freedom Alliance, 22570 Markey Court, Suite 240, Dulles, Virginia 20166; online at - https://www.ifr-ors.com/ors_2_live/...ontribution_form/index.cfm?A=0&L=NULL&P=NULL; or by calling 800-329-5454.

2. http://fisherhouse.org/ - The Fisher House. The Fisher House program is a private-public partnership that donates “comfort homes” on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers for relatives of military men and women hospitalized for illness, disease, or injury. The Fisher House Foundation also administers scholarships for military children. Contributions can be sent to Fisher House Foundation, 1401 Rockville Pike, Ste 600, Rockville, MD 20852

3. http://frogfriends.com/ - The United Warrior Survivor Foundation. UWSF is a non-profit group dedicated to spouses surviving Special Operations personnel killed in combat missions or training exercises since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The foundation offers scholarship grants to surviving spouses, along with educational counseling, financial guidance, and investment planning. The group, founded by Navy SEAL Nicholas Rocha, also provides emotional support through professional bereavement counseling, and support groups in each of the fifty states. “Most importantly,” says the group’s leadership, “we are committed to pray for these women and their families on a daily basis.”

Donations can be sent to United Warrior Survivor Foundation, Operation: Frog Friends, P.O. Box 181097, Coronado, CA, 92118-1097

I lost my job earlier this week but there is no need to feel sorry forme. I have a lump in my throat when I heard the news. Pat Tillman was "a man". How many of us would have done such a thing. My son is 2 years old. When he gets older I want him to know of the example Pat Tillman set. The Cardinals need to retire number 40.
