:barf:

I am so pissed right now. Not only do we miss out on the guy, but now we get to have him steamroll us twice a year.

Looks like Holmgren found his replacement for Mack Strong.

This sucks.

Im glad we didnt get this guy. FB is an outdated position in todays NFL IMO. We have a VERY GOOD FB and he impacts the game about 0.0009% of the time.

Damn IT!!!

Shane, this guy is just a flat-out FOOTBALL PLAYER. Position doesn't matter. You can't teach that kind of heart and desire and innate bad-assery.

I guarantee you that you'd have been an enormous fan of his.

He's going to smash a facemask or two on our defense...just great.

Why couldn't he have gone to some idiot team like the falcons or something.

: pissed:

Fans get excited a little too easy. He had a great career and was a player at the college level but he got pushed around something terrible at the senior bowl.

If you like how DRC looked at the senior bowl competing against the top college talent it has to give you pause about Schmitt who looked as bad as DRC looked good.

I believe he took part in the practices though and,the highlights i saw, he looked badly overmatched athletically against,i'm going by memory here, Keith Rivers and Dan Connor.

He badly overmatched the entire Oklahoma defense by himself.

Would have been a colossal waste of a pick. FB's affect the game especially in our offense 0.00009% of the time. We have a PB caliber FB on the roster and he was pretty much a waste of roster space last year.

You are right. Blocking is so overrated and only comes into play .00009% of the time. We never ran the traditional pro-set, i form, off i, and shotgun. You realize how silly that sounds right?

Blocking is great Chris. Problem is with our offense we rarely even used the PB caliber FB we currently have on the roster. Started to use him at the beginning and ended up barely using him at all. When we did his affect was minimal.

Would be a wasted draft pick IMHO. The FB position is so outdated in todays NFL. There about 4 teams that use them affectively that I can think of.

He took part in a few of the practices but only at the beginning of the week. I dont think anyone had him rise or fall based on the Senior Bowl, like I said he barely participated.

Schmitt will be a good FB for them for many years, I think. He will give us problems.

We had too many other problem areas to address to spend a draft pick on a FB.

I don't know about that, I saw him mentioned on the NFL Network right after the senior bowl and the hosts mentioned that observers and scouts didn't think he matched up against guys they thought would end up being NFL players.

They might be wrong about the guy, and the fans in Seattle might be right, but a lot of fans here were excited about JJ Arrington when we took him too.

eh maybe. I know he was injured and didnt practice the full week and didnt play in the game. Guess we will see what he can do in the next few seasons.

Just thought I'd give an update. I heard a little NFL radio today and they were talking about bad picks and they mentioned Owen Schmitt. The hosts, ex-NFL players, thought this was a bad pick.

They said that fullbacks are used so little now days that a team shouldn't waist a draft pick on a fullback. They felt a guy like that might only be in the game a handfull of times and you want a more productive position in the draft.

They also said good blockers can be found every day as undrafted free agents. They said the way to go is get an undersized aggressive undrafted free agent and get him in the weight room and put some muscle and pounds on him and he can be an effective fullback.

They felt this was a waisted pick. I hope they're right about it because I immediately thought of our own Tim Castille. The way we went with Castille is the direction they thought was the best way teams should approach the fullback position in todays NFL.

Everything I have read says he is a Mike Alstott type. Better runner than blocker. I predict he ends up like Duckett, not Strong. I heard he was blown up REGULARLY during the senior bowl
