Wolfley lists Sherman, Whisenhut (they like his "it" factor), Grimm (Wolf's favorite - because players respect that he's been there done that) and Cameron (dark horse) as the four guys on the short list.

When you put everything down, every one of the 8 interviewees (except maybe Pendergast) has been mentioned at least once.

I've posted "Head Coach Watch" page with write ups and regularly updated rumors on the BRS

Agree with Skorpp on this one. Sherman is the one candidate that I would not like to see here.

Nothing like the offseason to get this board moving again.

Of the names reportedly on the short list, I don't think anyone outside of the organization know who they are for sure. IMO, pure media speculation.

As for Sherman.... of all the interviews so far, he reminds me most of Vince Tobin... the only guy in my lifetime to win a play-off game for this team. The sexy pick isn't always the best.

Sherman's not my first choice either, but I won't be dissappointed if he ends up as our new coach.

For the record, I'm hoping for Grimm, I think Chow makes for the best story, and I'll be happy for anyone other than Pendy.

Go Cards!!!

And no, I'm not Sherman, but I don't understand the hatred for the guy, but yet the love for a unproven guy like Chow.

i don't get it either....is he not entertaining enought....not enough "coach speak' hasn't proven himself yet....i think people would be going wild if bill parcells was on the short list...yet his record is about .500 over the past three years....none of us have been privledged to be in the meetings...i wonder how much that weights into the decision.......my guess is once sherman finishes his second interview...we will know a lot more...if no white smoke then the next round of interviews comes from the playoff teams...

Someone said "Mr. Peabody" I think Dave Letterman....

But he's gotta be the "most qualified" of the folks we've interviewed, as far as HC experience, etc. Plus going back to the "we fired Green presser" Mike B. said he wanted someone organized. That's Sherman.... bigtime.....

Why is Sherman disliked so much on this board?

Why so much love for Chow, Rivera, etc.?

Just asking.

That's exactly what i've been thinking(except Rivera).People seem to like Chow based on his 8 minute presser. He obviously alcks that "leadership" quality front office/AD's are looking for whne they hire a coach because he has been passed over numerous times. Think about it, no one has ever seen fit to even give the guy a chance at any level and we want the Cards at the NFL,and he only has 2 years, level to be the first  . I don't get that line of thinking.

You Sherman supporters are borderline myopic. The guy is a retread no if's and's or but's. There is no opinion there. He had Mike Holmgrens team and ROn Wolf's players and did nothing with them. He had one of the greatest QB's of all time and did nothing with them.

Myopic -- limiting ones outlook to only that which one wants to see

"He had Mike Holmgrens team and ROn Wolf's players and did nothing with them"

Sherman went 9-7, 12-4, 12-4, 10-6, 10-6 before going 4-12. I think those first five years are doing "something".

Now who is myopic again?

I think that out performs Chow's recorrd as a HC.Oh wait, Chow doesn't have a record to be scrutinized as a HC.

Yeah I just don't get it do people bashing Sherman have a "tangible" reason?

I don't follow the Packers but if you just look at his record there and what he actually did I don't get the bashing? he didn't just win with Holmgren's players, first off he replaced Rhodes not Holmgren. the key acquisition that got that team going was getting Ahman Green at RB, who he got from Seattle. 99(Rhodes) and 2000(Sherman) Favre was a very ordinary QB, almost bad, because they had no consistent RB and he had to throw the ball and threw a ton of picks. Sherman got Green, and Favre had a complete resurgence, 3 great years in a row in his early to mid 30's. He inherited the immortal WR combo of Bill Schroeder and Antonio Freeman, and a defense that was 20th in points allowed the year before under defensive specialist Ray Rhodes.

I'm not seeing what it is people hate about the guy?

Which is EXACTLY why some of us would love to take a flyer on him.

We need new blood here, not retreads.

People who think Sherman could elevate the play of this team when he never did such with the Packers. They were essentially the same team under Holmgren (without the postseason success) that they were under Sherman except their division was much worse this decade.

Who among us wouldn't hope the could Cardinals duplicate that record for the next six years??? Sure no one wants the 4-12, but I'll take the 4-12 in the sixth year, to get the five preceding it...

Heres the logic behind that --

he cant be a good coach because he did no better that Mike Holmgren (who many would say is a really good coach).

The fact that he went 12-4 three years after Holmgren left, which in the free agency period of the NFL is a lifetime, means he did nothing.

BTW--as pointed out by somebody in an earlier post, the idea that the PAckers had an easy division or schedule during that time period is a fallacy.

Well, who would have thought that Denny Green, with his record would come out and stink up the joint from day 1?

his first 12 win year they didn't win the division, the Bears were 13-3 that year, Bucs 9-7. 2002 they realigned and that division was really bad. 03 Vikings won 9 games, 04 Vikings won 8 games. So the last 2 years of his 5 year success yes the division was down, first 3 years not remotely. in 2000, his first year, FOUR teams in that division finished over .500, Minn, TB, GB and Detroit.

I was going to defend Sherman for his 4-12 season but unfortunately I can't because of the below...

(2001) 12-4 Reg Season lose to Rams in Div. playoff 45-17
(2002) 12-4 Reg Season lose to Falcons 27-7 (1st ever Lambeau Field Playoff Game Loss)
(2003) 10-6 Reg Season lose to Eagles in Div. playoff 20-17 in overtime.
(2004) 10-6 Reg Season lose to Vikes in NFC wildcard game 31-17.

Yeah, we don't need a coach who's brought his team to the playoffs four years in a row and lost. That's why Shottenheimer is a horrible coach also, right, because he can't win the big ones?

This team hasn't even caught a whiff of a playoff fart in the last 8 years and we're worried about a coach who lost four playoff games. I'd be more worried about finding a guy who can win regular season games and who has experience.

This is the Cardinals we're talking about.

Yeah, and those first three years he was playing with a hand dealt to him by Ron Wolf while Sherman guys started gettting into it later and not suprsingly the team begane to regress. Man Russ, the last guy I thought that would be justifying this disgraceful potential hire is you. Anyone who saw Sherman's teams play knew they were a mirage, that's why he was run out of Green Bay on a rail less than 24 months ago.

So,obviously you respect Ron Wolf's decision making. Who was the last HC Wolf hired before retiring? Hint, he and his wife are in Arizona today.

This smacks of the talk when Denny was hired. Denny had similar issues in the playoffs, but we didn't care about that then.

I, for one, have learned my lesson.

The 2001 Rams lost in the Superbowl and led the entire NFL in scoring.

2002 Falcons that was a game GB should have won, lost at home.

Note there were 2 playoff games(one a wildcard game) they won in his time there so he's not 0-4 lifetime in the playoffs.

Just because I respect someone's decision-making does not mean their decisions are always right. And at the same time, you could say the HC and wife who are in Arizona today are the #1 choice of the Bidwills which cancels out anything positive Wolf said about him.
