Kevin Hunt on NBC ch 12 in Phoenix just said Sherman is just the first of a 3 man short list to be re-interviewed. He didn't know who the other two were.

Also, thanks for the info Houdini.

as long as cam cameron is on that list, that is all that matters to me. now i kinda hope that the chargers lose this weekend so he can become the next head coach.

Yeah that was also repeated in the new AP story although they say "at least 2 more" so there may be more. I think its safe to say Rivera is one of the unnamed candidates

Cardinals trim list
Sherman, two others set to have second interviews

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Cardinals are bringing Mike Sherman back for a second interview for their coaching vacancy on Thursday.

At least two others are expected to have second sessions, but their names were not revealed when the team announced Wednesday it would meet again with Sherman.

The Cardinals are believed to be waiting to see what happens in Pittsburgh, where Steelers assistants Ken Whisenhunt and Russ Grimm are leading candidates to replace Bill Cowher.

Whisenhunt, the Steelers' offensive coordinator, and Grimm, assistant head coach-offensive line coach, are among the eight candidates who interviewed for the Arizona job, and either or both could be among the Arizona finalists.

The Cardinals met with three candidates out of town because their teams are still in the playoffs: Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, Indianapolis Colts assistant head coach-quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.

A second interview with any of them would have to wait until their team is out of the playoffs.

Sherman, former Green Bay Packers coach and currently assistant head coach of the Houston Texans, was in Tempe for an interview last week.

Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow was interviewed in Arizona on Monday.

The other candidate interviewed was Clancy Pendergast, defensive coordinator under Dennis Green. He is under contract with Arizona. However, Pendergast's interview was believed to be a courtesy.

Green was fired after three losing seasons with the Cardinals.

Cauldwell does nothing for me. I'd rather see them hire Denny back than bring Cauldwell.

Frankly, I do not know enough about any of these guys to post a sensible comment. About all I know about him is he had some success at Green Bay. Parcells had some success in N.Y. but that did not help him in Dallas. In the final analysis it will be the players on the field. I figure a coach might make a two game swing over a season but when you suck someone has to go.

How refreshing.

He wasn't mentioned by Shefter and there is no reason to hide his name considering the Titans aren't playing

Schefter mentioned Rivera, Cameron and Caldwell being on the short list. That would be 4 people, not 3. I don't think Schefter knows and is just speculating. Steelers aren't playing either, so no reason to hide Grimm's name as well.

It's all a smokescreen. The Cards know exactly what they're doing. :stick:

I would have to say...of the last four Cardinals coaches hired....Ryan, Tobin, Mcginnis and Green.......Ryan, Mcginnis and Green were fairly popular picks...and Tobin got a big yawn. Due to the fact that the Cardinals made the playoffs under Tobin and won a playoff game.....I suppose he would have to be considered the most sucessful of the four...so maybe they should poll the fans on this one..and do the opposite... It is a given that Tobin wins this contest by only having one good season...but that is more than you can say about the other three coaches..... I am well aware that tobin is not exactly what we are aspiring to....but if you had to pick one of the four...he would get the nod.

I suffered thru all of the eras to some extent....I think Tobin had a tougher path to success than Green because we had cap issues for part of his reign...and I think he built a decent team that had freakishly bad luck with injuries (Swann and Wadsworth come to mind). On the other hand...Tobin's drafts were not very good...but it is unclear who was calling the shots (Ferguson...Bidwill Jr...who knows..). I think Ryan and Green got more control and power than Vince...so the fact that we won a playoff game is like a miracle... By the time Mcginnis left the place was in shambles...and I am not sure if that falls on Mac, Tobin, Graves or the Bidwills...

You may be right on Schefter

My guess as to why they don't mention the Steelers coaches is that they may only like one of the two and don't want to tip their hand to the Steelers until they pick their choice.

Mao...you can not like the guy but stop trying to spew your bias as fact...you are way wrong on just about all of your "facts" from what he inherited, his success and then reason for 1 failed season, and who he drafted.

thank you...my sentiments as well...we are not interviewng a guy who does not have an admirable body of work...words like drove them into the ground, etc etc. let's cool off and see how the hands get played out....these are all viable candidates who have been to the rodeo one way or the other

I wouldn't hate it if he got the job, Sherman that is, he's not my least favorite candidate, he's a yawner for sure in my books but I think he's an upgrade over DG.

Still to just toss out Chow as it appears well that's just typical of how things go around this team.

Next time I'm not picking a favorite or if I do I'm psychologically going to trick myself into getting psyched about my least favorite candidate thus insuring he has no chance.

What really sucks is that no one is ever going to hire Chow as a HC so we'll never know, it's just going to be one of those things that fades off into eternity an unsolved mystery, like where my socks go.

Sherman is at best.... # 4 on my list.....

I wasn't looking for a safe bet. Especially not Status Quo...

I either wanted the mad scientist who out thought everyone or I wanted a smash mouth kick your tail kind of guy.

My 3 were Chow - Rivera - Whisenhunt.

I wasn't looking to hire Ben Stein.

SHERMAN IS NOT THE ANSWER.

More likely, since it is the Cards, Chow will get a HC gig somewhere and roll off two or three Super Bowls while we pick 5-10 in the draft for the next half decade.

Pottsville hates us.

If....and it is still a big "if" .....but if chow did not make the 2nd round....someone with a very strong vote (somewhere between Mr B, Michael and Rod) did not want him. Wonder who it was....sounds like it was not Mr. B....unless all that stuff about them being friends was overblown.

I would be ok with Sherman.....I would rather roll the dice and try either Chow or Cameron....but Rivera would be my least favorite....but given the historical connection and relationship with the Bears and Cardinals....I hope we do not end up with Rivera because our "football guy"...that would be Rod Graves....picked him. Buddy was with the Bears and Eagles. Rod was with the Bears and Eagles....Vince was with the Bears and Colts...Dave Mcginnis...was with the Bears (only NFL team before the cardinals was the bears).

Yeah, I loved Dave Mac and Denny Green.

Mike Sherman inherited a team littered with Pro Bowlers and a HOF QB in his prime and essentially left it in shambles. Oh yeah, those great drafts. How can we forget about Batman Carroll, Jamal Reynolds, and Aaron Rodgers.

Ok, now it's my turn to give you grief. Sherman took over an 8-8 team that was horribly coached by Ray Rhodes (imagine Denny Green here). The team was littered with Pro Bowlers (imagine the Arizona Cardinals) and he coached the team to four consecutive playoff appearances with records of 9-7, 12-4, 12-4, 10-6, 10-6, and 4-12. Yes, the last year was horrible, but so were his players.

I like him as a choice because he's the only guy with prior NFL head coaching experience -- and successful at it. I'd rather take a chance with an experienced guy than give the reins to guy who's never done it before. Sure, Denny failed miserably, but if it happens again, it will always happen. Of the two prior coaches, Tobin and McGinnis, both had more success than Denny and neither had were a head coach. Tobin had a 9-7 season and in the playoffs. McGinnis had a 7-9 season.

Why is Sherman disliked so much on this board?

Why so much love for Chow, Rivera, etc.?

Just asking.
