Is he really any different?
He is the shiniest tomato can, and the most successful at rushing the passer! Getting rid of whatever talent to retain the junk we have doesn't make much sense to me.
Because you don’t draft the 8th overall pick just to be a situational pass rusher. Especially when he’s not being a situational pass rusher, he’s a liability everywhere else.
So why play him anywhere else if he's a liability? Have him do what he's good at, and maybe he develops to that end. We're not trying to win games, remember?
Hopefully guys that aren’t massive liabilities everywhere else when they’re not blitzing.
Having some guys actually good at one thing would be a huge improvement!

Still a tomato can at the end of the day. We got rid of junk while still having junk.

Like I told Harry, just blitz 50 times a game??? If this was Madden & he had ultimate fatigue, then I would be all for it.

It’s been 4 seasons. How much longer we gotta wait for him to develop?

That’s true. Unless we have low expectations, we should hope the 8th overall pick would be good at more than just one thing.

Since when is a 7th round pick something? We have people saying it is completely fine throwing away 5th round picks.

As I said previously, my biggest issue here was the timing. Especially if Monti is being honest when he said this began back in mini-camp. Monti paid 2.5 mil for a 7th round pick but couldn't pay 2 mil for Dobbs which cost them a 5th. That is bad GMing.

It takes away from the luster of Monti Ossenfort wheeling and dealing on draft day to get a first round pick from the Texans in 2024.

Way to address what he said!

Cool! You can believe he's wrong on this, but still recognize he's absolutely right about Dobbs. Let's try to stay on topic as opposed to attacking the source.
Where did I recognize he was right on Dobbs? Come on Vivek, you know I didn't write that anywhere.

You didn't do anything other than attack the article writer - his content was spot on, but you obviously didn't address it, because it goes against your opinion.

I'd rather have junk with a glimmer of hope than well junk, but whatever.
If he’s not good at anywhere else, you get rid of him.
If you had compelling reasons to keep other roster lint around, I'd agree. Trying to get something out of Simmons seems to be a more worthwhile use of time than the vast majority of our roster.
Like I told Harry, just blitz 50 times a game??? If this was Madden & he had ultimate fatigue, then I would be all for it.
No - but you can use him in sub packages and as a situational pass rusher...teams do it all the time.
It’s been 4 seasons. How much longer we gotta wait for him to develop?
How about we give him a shot out of training camp with a new FO? Worst case you dump him after the season. Not much lost.
That’s true. Unless we have low expectations, we should hope the 8th overall pick would be good at more than just one thing.
Of course you can hope that - but if he truly is just good at one thing, why not at least use him that way? We have plenty of guys that are good at no things that will be playing lots of snaps.

The definition of a bust pick is a guy that was picked 8th in 2020 that going into year 3 is changing position because he sucked at LB and in 2 preseason games (and through camp apparently) has also sucked at safety.

He was a bust last week. He was a bust 6 months ago.

We all held onto some vague hope that a new defensive HC and DC could perform a miracle and unlock Isaiah Simmons. We should all believe what they are telling us when they agreed to trade him after a month of camp.

When your 8th overall pick is losing snaps to Tanner Vallejo, Ben Niemann and Nick Vigil he's a bust.

You would normally be the first to say that a stat line does not define a player.
So is your boy Zaven Collins a bust?

You’re absolutely correct and also correct about him being a liability. But we would’ve been much better off admitting this two years ago, and just using him as a situational pass rusher to at least get something out of him instead of trying to make him a complete football player that can be on the field all the time just because he was the eighth pick.

He can be a very effective blitzer because there are not many running backs that he can’t steam roll right over.

We rarely used him this way. I’m guessing the Giants will and it will pay big dividends for them.

His content was citing a bunch of PFF stats. Jones has been OK. He's a fringe starter at best. He was going to be the 4th tackle but offers no G/T versatility like Elijah Wilkinson and Dennis Daley (shudder). Beachum has been a solid starter at both LT and RT.

While I am more bullish than the Jones haters on Jones' potential, Mitch surmises that Jones should START. No I don't agree with that.

And on Simmons, his lack of physicality, poor coverage ability (he gave up a 77% completion), and missed gap assignments are the reason that his counting numbers look good but he doesn't actually play well. He's the NFL version of a bad NBA team's best player who averages 25 points per game but isn't really all that good. Simmons is the NFL version of Ricky Davis.

My dog, I see you make no mention of the part of the article I literally quoted - you can just say you agree that the Dobbs move makes no sense, it's ok, I'll still think you're a Cards fan!

Honestly, it makes sense IF something is going to happen with McCoy. I'm waiting to see if that shoe drops. I try not to be too reactionary about any of the moves that this team makes.

Despite your claim, Dobbs is a better player than Blough. I think most scouts would agree with that, and Petzing worked with Dobbs last year. And even if this is a rebuilding year, you need to have a QB to evaluate the rest of the offense.

Sigh... I guess this is a hill that some are going to die on. lol..

Simmons was a lost cause guys. It happens. Let's move on.

If he was even a decent back up, we could have gotten a 5th for him... do you know how I know that?

Really, what difference does McCoy make? If he's cooked at this point, why not run out Tune? He doesn't look lost or that starting would be too big for him. Regardless, who cares if he flames out? We're tanking, right? Expecting to lose?

Ok - why?

If you're trying to tell me there is a significant difference between these two QB's, I'd love for you to explain why.

We literally just drafted one - now we're giving up more assets for a guy that was considered 3rd string for the Browns.

Again - please show me how bringing a QB in at the end of training camp who has so far been David Blough quality moves the needle in any way.

Fake news.

I'd love to hear your extensive experience watching David Blough starts and all of the times that Dobbs has played. My view is based on the general view that fans who have watched both play.

Dobbs has actual pedigree, he wasn't a UDFA and he has been brought in by real NFL teams to be the actual backup QB, not a fringe third string guy. Neither have long track records of success, but Blough has a much longer track record of sucking. The unknown suck is better than the known suck.

Fake news.

Hold up - are you really insinuating that Dobbs was going to be the 2nd string QB in Cleveland? Lol, nobody is making that argument anywhere. He had already been passed by DTR! If you're not aware of the most basics here, what are we doing?

Krang - I've seen them both play. They are both career backups in the NFL. The difference between the two is minimal, and certainly not worth the cost of a 5th round pick. I showed you a direct comparison of their actual performances so far in the NFL - basically the Spiderman meme.

Dobbs has actual pedigree
4th round pedigree? lol. By that logic Tune should be best of show. Dude was a FA and offered 1.5m. Browns found a better option in the draft and immediately dumped him. Pedigree. Incredible.
The unknown suck is better than the known suck.
You're paying real assets for crap on a glass plate instead of paper. Good GM'ing!

It's not insinuating anything...Stefanski literally named Dobbs 2nd string yesterday morning, with DTR 3rd string...then the trade happened. It's facts, not insinuation.

Ok - why do you think Cleveland was willing to trade Dobbs? Because DTR had supplanted him and they could get actual value from their 3rd string QB.

Or maybe the 5th round pick was what it took to pry him away from Cleveland. I would bet that the Browns were happy to keep him and Monti just wasn't offering enough, until he was. The facts remain, he was named the backup yesterday, just a couple hours before the trade. It's in Stefanski's daily press conference. Every player is available...for a price.
