Played at my dad's funeral. I can hardly even hear that song now. Just looking up the lyrics chokes me up....but yet I still have to hear it so I youtubed it too.

"You Were Always on my Mind."

Always struck me as an incredibly sad song, and I've always thought that Willie's version was far better than Elvis'. I think it is because of Willie's everyman voice...and the song strikes me as that "i can't believe I was such a dope and lost that great girl by taking her for granted" which sounds so good coming from Willie's nasaly tones.

"You Were Always on my Mind."

Always struck me as an incredibly sad song, and I've always thought that Willie's version was far better than Elvis'. It's the same thing with Imagine. Lennon's version is a classic, but A Perfect Circle's melancolic version fits the lyrics better somehow.

It took pure genius for Lennon to compose/write "Imagine" in the first place, and A Perfect Circle or any band had 20-30+ years to try to perfect in some way. Good find though, not too many can capture a Beatle (whether when together or solo) as well as A Perfect Circle, because several have committed injustices in covering any of their songs.

I've mentioned this song before, but don't know if I have in this thread. It's "Angel's Son". It was written by Sevendust lead singer, Lajon Witherspoon, in dedictation to Snot lead singer, Lynn Strait and his dog (Dobbs) died in a car accident on a California highway:

In fact, several artists got together to record a tribute album honoring Strait, which included "Angel's Song". Members of Korn, System of a Down, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, etc all contributed in some shape or form. True, those aren't the greatest bands (only Sevendust is worthwhile), but their efforts were solid in this instance.

Sorry. I mean, he is good and all...I hyperbohate on him sometimes, but he was very good. On this particular song though, it's too "grand" in the big-voice elvis style...and Willie's version sounds more "authentic" to me, a poor dolt realizing he messed up, which really works for the son. Which is surprising though, since it meant so much to Elvis.

I love "In the Ghetto" by Elvis though...great song and performance.
