Eh, I feel it can get into the whole "we've done this before, so we're just going to copy it" crap they did with TFA. I mean, I liked TFA, but it really walked the line.

We received a touch of it in ESB and not much else unless you count Yoda talking to younglings. It wouldn't feel like it was copied to me. In fact the video games have dived more into training and some of that stuff was cool. Honestly, it seemed like the prequels were the prime opportunity to show more of the Jedi in their prime and I felt like we barely scratched the surface.

Not my fault the franchise spent it's 'rehashing the past' equity in TFA.
Speaking of rehashing...

If we could get Daisy Ridley into a 'slave girl' situation, that wouldn't suck. :p

Ive never understood the 2 sith thing. So youre telling me in the millenias that the Sith exist, nobody was able to kill both the student and teacher within the same time frame?

Kill both, boom, sith forever extinct.

Its just a ridiculous notion. Because really theres only 1 sith at a time. A teacher whos teaching a student whos not a full sith yet. Or a grown student (Vader) and a teacher (Palpatine) whos old and no longer capable of being that sith warrior anymore.

So theres only 1 physically capable sith in the universe at any one time. Ooh how scary.
You miss the real the power of the sith. It's not to shoot lightning outta his hands. It's to stir the darkness in others and harness it for the dark side. Palpatine wasn't running around the universe lightning everyone. He was insidiously playing a game of dark chess and relying on people's inner darkness to do his bidding.

That's flawed because while Palpetine and Darth Maul fit your theory, there was no apprentice for several years after that until Anakin turned. So there technically isn't ALWAYS a master and apprentice.

And even in the current timeline, we know Ren isn't an apprentice or a Master. If Snoke is a master, then who is the apprentice? Too many paradoxes.
Ren isn't an apprentice?

And I do question where Snoke came from if both palpatine and Vader died at the same time. Who trained the next sith? Or is the dark side powerful enough to just create a sith from scratch?

Actually, I'm super psyched about some Jedi training with Luke and Rey!

How much more training does she need? She already kicked the ass of the vastly superior trained Ren, who apparently was badaass enough to reduce Luke and his Jedi school to rubbles.

Man, that decision to write their fight that way really cut the balls off what came off as a bit of a bitch character anyway. The temper tantrum throwing bad guy who kills his father, not in battle but in embrace doesn't make him scary to me as much as it makes him kinda pathetic. Getting his ass kicked by a novice right afterwards didn't do the characters any favors, IMO.

Do we even know he's a sith? Maybe he was one of Luke's first students who turned to the darkside, was excommunicated and helped turn Kylo after?

Or he's not a sith. No one refers to him as Darth Snoke, right? All of which makes the bad guys in these movies even weaker, IMO.

Kylo Ren is not scary. Even the contrived meaningless mask makes him lame. I'll be interested to see if there's anyway to (I was going to say "resurrect" but Kylo was never badass except for dream flashback and even then, who knows?) create a better villain in the next movie. We need another Vader but we're not going to get it.

Hadn't thought of that. And you're right, ren doesn't refer to him as Darth Snoke, but he calls him master, doesn't he?

Even so, I dont understand how they survive for eons. Osama bin Laden wasnt running around personally shooting people. He was in the back, planning, orchestrating. But we still hunted him down and killed him. Youre telling me in however many 100's of years the Jedi never once were able to kill the teacher ( or student) within the same time frame?

If the teacher is killed before the student is done training, then the Sith are extinct because the teacher is dead and the kid isnt an actual sith yet.

it's really too bad... because he starts off as a badass in that first scene in the desert... and I think he breaks Fin with the power of the force to find where the map may be hidden, but after that... he just fell off a cliff. Wears a scary mask... just because he's a fanboy? Throws temper tantrums? Makes the biggest bitch move in the world killing his dad when he was defenseless and then loses to someone who just learned how to use the force five minutes ago?

and I'm saying all this as someone who's a BIG fan of Adam Driver too. He's an acting dynamo and just seemed wasted in the first movie.

Still excited for this movie and Rey's training no matter how much the poo poo twins rip it. :p

eh... I'm still excited for it also, especially since Rian Johnson is at the helm. My expectations have just been dialed WAYYYYY back at this point. The trilogy is set upon a shaky foundation as is, for me.. The question is will they solidify it, or will it crumble under it's own weight at this point?

Who knows... all I DO know is I ain't making another avatar bet about it's box office this time!

I really hope it's good too. Hopefully they watched TFA Rogue 1 and got a better feel for what works and what doesn't.

Rogue 1 just blew away TFA, IMO. It didn't hold up as well on 2nd viewing, but the last 45 minutes of that movie are flat out fantastic. Biggest problem of that movie, IMO was that Erso and Y Tu Mama Tambien Dude weren't given GREAT characters. I liked them, but the fact that I don't even remember the Dude's name says everything about him.

As far as I'm concerned, the only real standout from TFA was Rey. I fell for her and wanted to root for her immediately, which was the most important thing they needed to get right for the new trilogy, but it just felt like they took shortcuts everywhere else in the movie. And if it's on, I almost never watch a minute of it. That sucks.

Isn't this palpatine and Vader? Killed at same time. If snoke is sith obviously killing both at once doesn't lead to extinction somehow.

Im just talking in general. If they say theres only 1 teacher/1 student at any one time. I dont understand the whole Snoke/Palp/Vader thing.

And to make it even worse, theres no limit on Jedi. Heck they have schools teaching 15 Jedi kids at a time.

So youre telling me theres 100+ Jedi in the Universe, and only 2 Sith?

Is that to say that 1 sith is 10x stronger than a Jedi?

IMO it has nothing to do with brute strength. YODA said the dark side is not stronger than the light. To me what makes them so dangerous is how they operate. They manipulate from the shadows.

Well, don't forget that Chewy hit him with his blaster right after he killed Han. And that blaster was quite powerful, which probably hurt him a great deal.

eh

I want to know how Chewie freaking missed. He's not a Storm-Trooper with zero aim. He's freaking Chewie shooting at a standing target for pete's sake!

Don't even get me started on Leia rushing over to hug Rey, a perfect stranger and not even saying a word to Chewie after Han's death.
