You think Scola is dirtier than Bell? I just can't respond to that other than I disagree. He's a flopper, I agree with that. But dirty like Bruce Bowen?

I guess we'll see in a few months. I admit that I don't remember specifics, but I do remember thinking, every time I watched him, "Jeez, what an ass, I'm glad that guy isn't on the Suns." And there's someone else on this board (I can't remember who) who also says that Scola is his least favorite player in the league. So I'm not alone.

I don't know about the Bruce Bowen comparison, but Scola is a very dirty player. Lots of elbows and bumps, including knees and basketballs to the groin area.

That would be I. Can't stand him. I might dislike Beasley more than Scola, but it's pretty close.

Sports Illustrated did a poll back in April when they asked a bunch of NBA players (146 I believe) who the dirtiest players in the league were:

15. Raja Bell
14. Jamaal Magloire
13. Shane Battier
12. Dwight Howard
11. Ryan Hollins
10. Eduardo Najera
9. Anderson Varejao
8. Kurt Thomas
7. Kevin Love
6. Gerald Henderson
5. Chris Paul
4. Jeff Foster
3. Metta World Peace
2. Kevin Garnett
1. Reggie Evans

...and here is last year's top 10:

10. Jeff Foster
9. Joel Pryzbilla
8. Kenyon Martin
7. Kendrick Perkins
6. Zaza Pachulia
5. Kobe Bryant
4. Anderson Varejao
3. Andres Nocioni
2. Ron Artest
1. Reggie Evans

Researching online, Bruce Bowen is generally considered the dirtiest player of all time--and Scola isn't even in the top 15 of the last year!

The biggest issue I have with this is that it potentially moves both our recent lottery picks into 3rd string positions on this team when really this should have been a year where you say screw the record and develop the young guys.

Young players do not develop by riding the bench and watching others play.

I'll admit that that list is a surprise, especially since half of those players hardly sniffed the floor last season.

agree with this as well. and even though I'm not a big Morris guy, we drafted him and we might as well see what he's got. Now he's third position at PF. that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Pretty sure that Marshall won't be the 3rd PG, I think we'll see him in spurts with Telfair at first, but then by the middle of the season he'll be the backup.

Morris actually will definitely be the backup PF--depending on what happens with Lopez. If we resign him, then I'd imagine we'd look to dump Channing somewhere.

didn't mention Marshall. my comment was about Morris and Morris alone.

not sure why you definitely think this is the case. And I think it's somewhat of an assumption that we'll be able to dump Channing somewhere.

but i guess we'll see.

A team like Portland who might be desperate for big men might be an option. Who knows? This team definitely isn't done yet making moves, whether that's signing Courtney Lee/OJ Mayo/Terence Williams or trading Frye/not signing Lopez (then Frye will be the backup C--ugh), there's still more to come.

Right now under contract we've got:

Gortat
Beasley
Dudley
Frye
Warrick
Scola
Morris
Marshall
Dragic
Telfair

10 guys, and thats with no backup center and no SGs at all. So, I'd agree. Someone's gotta go. I dont see anyone taking Frye off our hands with his contract and shoulder injury. I'd think Warrick just gets waived.

If Huston is able to actually get Howard and Lin, I could see them being interested in Frye to help spread the floor for Lin/ Howard pick and roll, or Howard post-ups.

You can never have too many big men in this league.

Dudley can play SG, and even Dragic can buy some minutes there. With Scola and Morris at 4, Frye might end up being the backup C. My guess is that we'll get Shannon Brown, sign some third-string Center and SG to one-year contracts.

Supposedly Mayo asked for $8mil a year. I don't think he's gonna get anything close to that. Maybe the Suns are waiting to see if he floats back down to earth and is willing to accept a reasonable contract. The Suns are one of the few teams that have any money.

After Frye's season last year and then injury to finish it, he is going to have to prove he can still play before we could even begin to imagine who might like him. He falls into the category of "negative asset". Maybe some team might be intrigued, but no one would take him unless they ship some equally bad contract back, or unless the Suns toss in something to diminish the risk.

I'd give him the same contract that Beasley got: $18M/3-years. I don't see why he should be making more. Then again, I can't justify why Dragic should be making more but he will be.

That's what those Lakers picks are for. :)

I agree with you. I think that's the right price for Mayo. I don't recall where I read this, but I seem to remember reading that the Suns made it clear they are not going to offer him $8M per year.

Meh, I'd rather keep them and hope to get lucky or to move up in the draft than use them just to dump another bad player.

If the Suns have to dump a player it should be Warrick. His last year is a team option so he is basically expiring, but not a big enough expiring to lure a trade partner. With our current roster he wont be used outside of garbage time. Whats the point in keeping him?

There's got to be a struggling SG out there somewhere that just needs a change of scenery who plays for a team that needs a Frye?

I doubt that anyone needs Frye. Remember how bad he looked towards the end of the year? And we dont even know if he will be healthy for the start of next year.

Frye is a stretch 4. A lot of teams can use a guy like that.

Look at what Ryan Anderson just got.

Agree with most of this. As I said before, I like a lot of these players. Of course getting really bad isn't any guarantee of being capable of drafting the right players to build a championship squad.

That being said, my nagging fear is that I can think of a lot more teams that built championships around top 5 picks, than those who acquired a bunch of decent to good players and continued getting late lottery picks.

Sometimes, purgatory is worse than heaven or hell.

Completely agree with this. If this team is stuck in a revolving door of mediocre signings and teen draft picks every single year...good luck.

I would rather hedge my bets year after year in the top 5 knowing I have a 1 in 5 chance of landing a franchise guy versus praying that I get lucky later in the draft and find another Marion, Nash late. Those seem like longer odds to me.

It just seems like this team is OK with just putting up W's instead of a title. If this team turns a profit, makes it exciting....they would be OK with that FOREVER. Why anybody thinks this team can land a franchise player through FA is beyond me. Case and point...the SUNS talked up this off season for the past few seasons as being the season.....it ended with a thud.....no?
