Its playoffs or bust for him I think. At least it should be considering that's what the expectation for the team was (said by the him, the players, McD etc) after they brought in Tyson, Mirza and resigned Knight to that fat extension.

I thought the great Hornacek was brought in as coach because he played for the great Jerry Sloan and his teams played defense. We also brought in that midget coach from the Celtics to help him coach defense.

It they are so freaking good why are we next to last in the entire league in opponents FG% at .466. Houston edges us out for last place at .467.

Tonight we allowed .494.

That is probably why Hornacek the great gave no defense Booker only 5 minutes PT tonight. He didn't want the Mavs to shoot over 50%, great coaching.

It also befuddles me why the world Hornacek has yet to run a play to get to get Booker a shot when he enters the game.

I remember another coach that seemed to always start the game with a shot for the Matrix to get him instantly part of the game. If it wasn't the Matrix it was someone else. I guess helter skelter BS is the name of the game in this town these days. It is just hard to watch every frigging night.

Unless the other team turns it over 65 times or we shoot 75% from the three point line, our chances of winning are slim and none.

We are sure lucky the Markieff did not play tonight. We might have lost.
OH wait.........

How do you think we will fare against the Warriors on Wednesday? They just lost their first game and are at home waiting for us.

That game may look similar to the Jazz-Spurs game from today.

It's disappointing that the strong defense early in the season didn't last but some of the regression is due to Tyson's injury and Keef being a chemistry turd.

Tyson played last night and Keef appeared to be a good cheer leader.

Dallas shot .494 from the field. We have been better than that for most of the season.

Something really has to give.

Tyson came off the bench in his 2nd game back, give it some time.

In general I agree. I don't know if it's on Jeff or if his hands are tied to some degree. I'd feel a lot better about our questionable rotations if they resulted in extra minutes for the younger players but unfortunately that hasn't been the case.

I heard Hornacek talking about playing time this morning on 98.7 FM. They were asking him who makes the decision on who plays ,etc. He essentially said it was a group discussion between him and McD and Sarver.

That's messed up. Sheds some light on things, however.

I think it's probably a good thing that Sarver and McD have a say in playing time because I'm afraid if it was only up to Hornacek, we would never ever see Warren, Booker or Goodwin.

Yeah I suspected his hands were tied to some extent. Otherwise his rotations defied explanation.

The Suns lack of defense and curious player rotations says a lot for the Suns problems.

If the Suns FO was patient they would have extended Jeff's contract and given him a mandate to develop the young players instead of dangling playoff hope to the fans.

I don't know if Jeff is a good coach or not but I'm pretty sure he could have helped these young players learn how to fit into the league. But the fans probably wouldn't have liked that approach any more than Sarver would have. It's too bad though because not making the playoffs is the likely result of any approach this season. And lame duck coaches don't usually fare well in the NBA or so I've heard.

I think the play on the court reflects coaching. Maybe the Suns want to give Hornacek a new set of players and begin again like last season Sooner or later it can't always be the player's fault. I would not have extended Jeff's contract but that is me. The Suns are not a cohesive unit on the court and they seem to lack direction, I thought defense was going to be a focus of this season's Suns.

I think there is much truth in this.

Wow

I wish I were surprised but why should anyone be.

Sarver being part of the group discussion on who plays and who sits?

Gimme a Break. Unfortunately I expect it is true.

A coach of any merit would resign.

Every other competent member of the original management team Sarver inherited when he purchased this team has left this franchise since Bob bought this club. His meddling has cost this franchise dearly.

I doubt any owner would tell Popovich or Jackson who to play. It really is absurd.

However if that is the case, which one of those clowns is telling Hornacek not to play Booker too many minutes and on most nights Warren.

I just think they've chosen the worst option. Fire him or extend him but don't let him play out his last season like this. It's difficult enough to get NBA players to listen to you. They could have given him a 2 year extension with a reasonable buyout to provide some security or something like that. And I'm not defending him as a coach. I have no idea how much of our current problems are of his doing.

The owner provides the money and hires a GM to staff the team (including discussions with the Head Coach).

Then the Head Coach decides how to best utliize the staff game to game.

Hornacek actually said on the radio that the decision on who plays is a group discussion between the owner, GM and Head Coach?

Unbelievable and naive.

It shows how messed up the management of the team is.

Jeff Hornacek is admitting on the radio that he is a puppet.

This far worse than any Suns fan wants to believe.

From this article, it sounds like Hornacek may have been referring to whether Markieff plays, but when I heard it on the radio, it sounded more general than that:

And if the Suns ultimately decide Morris will not be able to get over whatever it is that’s holding him back, those trade rumors could at some point become a reality. One would think it’s difficult to market Morris if he’s not on the floor performing, but Hornacek said there is no directive from above to play — or not play — the forward.

“We’re a group, not only Ryan (McDonough) but Robert (Sarver) will talk about things,” he said. “So it’s not just on one person saying this or that. It’s kind of a group discussion and we all try to figure out what’s best for the team.”

http://arizonasports.com/story/4904...le-markieff-morris-will-return-to-floor-soon/

Looks like they have the whole 9 minute interview on that link, so folks can listen and decide for themselves.

Yea that sounds like it's in regards to just whether or not Kieff plays, not everyone.

Okay, that is not as bad as it was made to sound. I'm guessing they, as a group, felt that Kieff should be in the lineup at the start of the year... and then, they as a group, felt it was time to remove him after a month of playing like horse manure.

As to why Tucker keeps playing 30+ minutes... who knows. I have a hard time believing the FO is forcing the coach to feature an older vet on a pretty small contract.

Yes. I listened to it too. I got the impression that this decision was more about Kieff than Pt for the other players.

I wish I could be the owner. Not for the money, just for the fun of being the owner.

Goodwin finally sees some playing time and still can't hit free throws.
1. Be active on defence
2. Shoot when they leave you open
3. Hit the freebies

Why Weems instead of Booker?!

Unfortunately Morris has created a situation where his playing or not playing is bigger than wins and losses. This kind of thing has to be putting a strain on the team. I'm sure the players just want to do whatever it takes to win.
