that said at least contract is based on sanity (if it's truly 3/$12).

I like where the Suns are at the moment. A sign and trade with Amare may still be in the works. If not, Warrick was a good snag. Nash will make him look better just like Frye. Now the Suns have time to explore more moves.

I somewhat agree. Warrick, unlike Swift, actually has some ability. He was averaging 10/4 in about 21 minutes a game last year. Pair him with Nash, make him a starter (ugh) and give him 30 minutes or so a game. Maybe he'll jump to 16/7?

Plus, after Frye, the deal looks like a bargain.

I'm in for this. Don't be so gray, everyone. We'll at least get a mid-lottery pick this year as long as that's not traded away....

At least Warrick is now our 2nd best defensive big man. Better than both Frye and Amare.

Not one at the end of the lottery.

Suns fans will never be satisfied. They tank, you'll get guys like ltsunsfan saying "I hate this &*%&# team" like he ALWAYS does in game threads. They don't tank then everybody will be pissed that they don't have a good draft pick.

Here is an interesting article from Paul Coro at azcentral dated 7-2-10.
Stoudemire declined a five-year Suns offer that could have been worth up to $96 million, prompting the Suns to quickly secure free agent power forward Hakim Warrick with a four-year agreement worth as much as $18 million.

Stoudemire, whose talks with New York and others are accelerating, had told the Suns that he would not sign a deal for fewer than five years after Phoenix offered a four-year maximum deal worth about $80 million. Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver countered Thursday with a five-year offer that fully guaranteed the first three years and had the fourth and fifth years kick in fully guaranteed if he played at least 2,200 minutes in the third or fourth seasons.

It is an acknowledged step back for the organization but the Suns do feel like Warrick is a defensive upgrade and that he likely would start at power forward for them. Warrick will make $4 million in each year of his contract but could make an extra $2 million with playing time incentives.

I am somewhat excited. He is a competitor that has never played on a competitive NBA team.

And I am from Syracuse so I love him. Sign and trade for MELO!

we're going to be duking it out for the 8 seed until Nash retires (or is traded... where upon we'll have 10 million buck per locked into a PF combo of Frye/Warrick). Yucky.

Well, that *is* the nature of sports.

If the team wins the championship, few will complain. If the team gets to the final four, half will complain. If the team tanks and gets a top-three pick, half will complain. If the team ends up around 50%, most will complain.

Frye+Warrick for $10M or Lee for $15M? You would have to go with Lee right?

if this truly signifies the end of amare with no other moves this franchise is a joke. it will NOT make the playoffs next year unless either lopez or clark make some incredibly quantum leaps in ability. i'm calling that shot right now.

I've been calling THAT shot for some time now. With Amare playing at his best we were still only the 9th best team in the NBA this past year (IMO we were behind LA, Portland, Denver, Utah, Orlando, Atlanta, Cleveland and Dallas, injuries notwithstanding). Take Amare away, watch Nash and Hill age before our eyes and we are looking at a bad team. If Robin and Clark are real factors all season then I'll change my outlook but I find that unlikely. Between Robin's back and Clark's head/heart I have real doubts about each of them.

I'm feeling very pessimistic right now. I know, there's a chance that Lopez will be healthy and that Clark with actual playing time will prove to be a real player. I also know that Nash might overcome his injuries and have a stellar year and that Hill might continue to defy Father Time. And maybe between Warrick and Frye along with our two draft picks we'll actually start playing some defense at the power forward spot. None of these are really long shots but we'd need at least 3 of them to happen and that is a long shot, IMO.

DOne deal:

UPDATE: Looks like the Suns have locked up Warrick.

"Suns agreed to terms on a four-year, $18 million deal with free agent forward Hakim Warrick, sources tell Y! Sports," tweets Marc. J Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

This could be the final nail in the coffin for the Amar'e Stoudemire era in Phoenix.

Adds Spears: "When asked if Warrick signing for Suns means Amar'e era over in Phoenix? A source close to situation told Y! Sports: 'It looks that way.'"

um no... then we'd be guaranteed to be the 6-7 seed for eternity. that's even more yucky. At least with this group of complete mediocrity, there's a chance they could bottom out and we could get a high lotto pick... which is what this team will need to rebuild.

the era's over and trying to hold on to it with these signings or a Lee signing would only be delaying the inevitable.

Unless the Suns get a decent PF in an Amare S&T the only way they'll have a starting caliber PF is if Clark takes a massive leap forward in his development.

Not "could be," "is." If the reports about Frye and Warrick are correct, the Suns have already renounced Stoudemire's rights. There isn't enough cap space for both Frye and Warrick as long as there is a hold for Stoudemire.

That means a sign-and-trade is off the table as well.

Does that happen if all they've done is reach an agreement in principle with Frye and Warrick?

Disgusting. So much for the Houston pipe dream that could have made us at least competitive. I really hope they do the right thing by Nash, and trade him to a team that cares about winning a championship.

No, theoretically they could renege on those agreements. (So they may not have actually renounced Stoudemire yet.) They'd lose all credibility with the league's agents then, but Sarver may not care about that. Turkoglu backed out of his agreement with Portland last summer, so it can happen, at least that direction.

Sarver does the right thing for one of his employees who's made him successful for 6 years? Doesn't seem like his MO.

Sad part is, as classy as Steve is, he'll never get out in the media and ask for a trade and that's probably the only way it would happen.

I'd love to see Nash traded to a contender. I'd root for whoever it was for a year like Boston fans rooted for Avalanche when the Bruins mercifully traded Ray Borque for a shot a title.

he's referencing ray bourque, and i agree, i'd do the same.

no way we trade nash. the frye/warrick signings cement the fact that we're madly treading water trying to keep competitive.

Why??

We had the bird rights of Amare, Frye and Amundson plus the MLE.

We could have resigned Frye and use the MLE on Warrick. No? Seems simple to me.
