I REALLY wish that our team still included Skinner on the roster at this point, but I am excited about our depth now. Honeslty, I'd love to re-visit a trade that sends LB for a 2 who can start here so Bell can come off the bench....

I project that Dragic will also get some playing time at the SG position. IMO, he will help shore up both the 1-2 position. I'm guessing the Suns will want to see what this team looks like before they make any trades. If Barbosa is traded I think the Suns will want a young SG and a first round draft pick in return (maybe for the year 2010).

Three years guaranteed? Obviously, Kerr really thinks this kid is the real deal. that's a big gamble, but the risk may be worth it. If Dragic turns out to be anything close to what the Suns keep saying, then we have him locked up for 3 years with an option for 4th. 2nd round picks who turned out to be really good often received big contracts years before the players drafted in the 1st round. The Suns won't have to worry about losing the guy to another team for quite some time. On the other hand, 2nd round picks very rarely turn out to be really good. The Suns and Dragic's agent contend that Dragic is 1st-round talent, but I won't believe that until I see it for myself.

I am so happy that they finally signed him. I really like what Kerr did this summer. We needed a point guard, a center and a 2/3. We got all three.
I am not sure what to expect from Dragic and Lopez, but I definitely hope that Kerr is right about these guys. I really can't wait for season to start.

There were many good players out of 2nd round. Just one example, Ginobili was the #57 pick.

How do u think of Luis Scola of the Rockets? He is pretty good and made solid contribution in his first year. It was the Spurs picked him at #56. Funy that they traded him to the Rockets for exactly the same reason, buyout issue.

I don't buy into the fact the Suns is the only team in the NBA who had the patience to go through all the stuff for this guy. If this guy was good enough and worthy of a first round pick there would be lots of teams that would have done it. The truth of the matter is that the Suns were probably the only team in the NBA that thought this guy was worth it in the 1st round. The rest of the NBA was willing to take this guy sometime in the 2nd round.

I really hope this guy is legit because we can use him. Plus it will make the Suns front office appear like they got a steal in the draft and that they know more than the rest of the NBA. If not, this will go down as another bad Suns move in a series of others in Sarver's short tenure.

I am anxious to get this guy on the court and see what he can do at the NBA level. We need him to be decent. We need him to spell Nash. We need to find Nash's successor. I am routing for this guy but won't be surprised if he doesn't amount to much.

Good, glad it's finally happened. The team now has the same rotation 7 with solid defensive depth across the board, which was missing last year. And the year before. And a coach who'll use it makes for a pretty pleasing offseason.
And hopefully Dragic will somewhat live up to a nickname someone coined for him in another thread, which was Magic.
If not, and he goes the other way, has anyone claimed Tragic? If not, I'm calling it, but let's hope it's never needed.

My Spanish is poor, but I believe TAU requested two million dollars to let him go. This is why the Suns are giving him a guaranteed three years, because they can only pay $500k and if I read the report correctly, Dragic will be paying them the other $1.5m ($500k each year). So Goran will make $1m a year over the next 3 and if they keep him for the 4th, he will get a raise to the full $2+ million.

IMO this kid is barely making over vets minimum and well worth the risk. At least he's no more a risk financially than any middle to late first round pick.

To cover the buyout, Scola got a 3M contract. It is definitely more than the Spurs was willing to pay. But his performance made it quite a fair price, 10.3ppg + 6.4rpg. I'm sure Popovich regreted.

I'm very pleased as well. This appears to be a solid offseason.

There are times to be critical of the Suns and a time to celebrate. IMO, this is a time to celebrate because the Suns will have a solid 13 man roster. Getting a quality PG and a quality center in the same draft is something incredible. Also getting Matt Barnes for the veteran minimum is also quite an achievement. I know some fans will say they are not proven but all the rookies that were drafted this past summer are not proven. I believe Dragic will prove to be a good PG if for no other reason the Suns management put their money and scouting where their mouth is... so they must have reason to believe. When the Suns start paying money for buyouts and giving Dragic a 3-4 year contract this tells me something especially when they will be over the LT.

I read somewhere Dragic will take his physical on Monday and likely sign with the Suns on Tuesday. I guess he was traveling today. He will likely be a tired young man after this trip.

Much to be excited about. None of the offseason moves have been very sexy, but needs have been filled very admirably. The Suns are younger, more athletic, and more competitive at both ends. Assuming all the moves meet even modest expectations, the Suns have had a very productive off season. There are a lot of ifs left, but having Shaq and Diaw arriving in shape and hungry is a huge start. Kerr gets a solid B.

Oh, and there was another more serious issue, too. Given the minutes expected as TD backup, Scola didn't even want to sign with Spurs. Hindsight is 20/20. Pop would certainly play TD at 5 to make room for Scola for at least 15-20 min, now.

Considering that the deal involved unloading Jackie Butler, I think the money was a big issue with the Spurs.

I'm sure Sarver is both laughing but crying due to the huge LT hit this deal will necessitate, but he bit the bullet. I was one who seriously doubted this day would happen because there were so many legal tangles but mostly because I doubted Sarver would take the hit. It strikes me that Kerr's biggest negotiating job was to get Sarver to sign off on this.

It's amazing that the Suns seriously upgraded the team's talent without losing any of their core guys. Considering how many proposals have been made to trade a former MIP and a former Sixth Man of the Year just to get somebody's third string PG - I'd say this was major accomplishment.

I am really curious to see how this team plays under Porter. I'm glad there were no panic trades. I tip my hat to Kerr because this was no easy task.

No, I understood that part. However, in order or the Suns to be interested in this guy enough to fly him in for a private work out they had to do some scouting. Every team had access to this guy from a scouting perspective.
