Looking at, and listening to, McDonough reminds me of what Cotton used to say about Jeff Hornacek.

"He reminds me of my paper boy."

I can't ever picture him standing up to Robert Sarver's cheapness. And yes, this was a cheap move.

Server got what he wanted to with McDonough. A timid, inexperienced 'yes' man to manipulate as GM.

He really likes TJ both as a person and player.
When Leander asked him about his hair.

"This is just how it grows"

"Eventually I am going to cut this, and probably soon because I am tired, I get a lot of questions about it."

Good Lord, what the hell is it that you actually want? Would it make you feel better if they paid $10M for someone like Payton?
When I bought my first Taylor guitar, it was on sale- something like 25% off, and I happened to have some gift cards, so I ended up getting an $1800 guitar for $1200 or so. That must have been a cheap move too. I should have paid the full price, I guess.

Some people cannot be happy unless they are complaining about something. You get a decent, young player for nothing, and people still complain. Good Lord!

Listened to Leander talk to Payton aired on the pregame of the Nuggets game.

Payton talked like he might get his hair cut soon to end the questions about it.

Good. It looks like a hat. I cannot imagine playing with that thing hanging over.

Stef, you emphasized that he came cheap. 'Good move for the Suns. But I hope the primary consideration was that he fills a need. I am surprised you call that complaining.

Interview with Payton:

- seems like a great kid personality wise
- talks up the talent we have on the team
- stoked to be playing with warren.

The hair didn't seem that bad during the game but that video of him up close is awful.

I wonder how long it will take before most fans give up in terms of being bothered by the hair. He said he might change it soon, so will he change it before fans move past it?

Cheap. Not cheap in payroll. Cheap in trade cost. Only a second round pick. Of course he was brought in to meet a need. Indications are that they were considering drafting him in 2014. They have still been scouting him since he has been in the league.

He is a traditional pass first of who is very efficient getting to the rim.

It will get him an extra few million in free agency if he cuts it. I am convinced.

I prefer (it’s a relative term) the sun visor do which he sports now to that forward pony tail ... why anyone would project themselves like that is beyond me, and if I was gm I would probably have avoided trading for him on principle - no one should look that stupid...so yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re right.

Please remind me. Who was the last Magic PG we got? It wasn't Tragic or Bledsoe or Knight or Thomas or James or Ulis or Canaan or Gray. Whom did I miss?

Man, we go through Point Guards (sometimes three at a time), including the PGINO's -- Point Guards in name only (because they were too small or not good enough shooters to play or defend Shooting Guards).

I think you guys sound like a bunch of creepy old dads that don't like their daughter's new boyfriend because he needs a haircut.

He's a kid expressing his individuality. I never really paid any attention to his game before last night. It doesn't look to me like his hairdo effects his play at all. And I don't think his hair looks any stupider than Josh Jackson's. Even Devin Booker's eraser head looks silly to me but I like the individual expression. Reminds me of the 70s when everybody had crazy head and facial hair.

Much better than this.

That’s the point though isn’t it? I fully believe in the freedom of expression, that’s how much his forward pony tail got me; it was so bad it forced me to question my beliefs.

Ultimately though it wouldn’t have had a bearing on my decision if I was gm i decided but looking at all the nfl owners who won’t touch kaep you’d be crazy to think it wouldn’t offside an owner or two here or there.

Smart man. Always question one's beliefs so as not to be bias or prejudice.

For me, the hair is a distraction but digging further, one has to question if Payton's hair does not take away from his game. It's the forward pony tail that I question. It's interesting to guess he might play even better without the pony tail.

Forgetting all that, I like what Payton brings to the table as a person and player. Based off last night and his stats, I hope the Suns find a way to keep him.

19 pts/ 9 ast / 6 reb / 61% FG / 100% FT

Pretty good debut. If PHX can't get Young or Doncic I would re-sign him and draft a PG like Jevon Carter in Round 2.

I wonder if Randle could have been had for a second rounder or future first rounder. It would have been interesting to see if he, Booker, Jackson & Payton could have meshed for 26 games, just in case PHX doesn't fall within Ayton / Bagley range.

But now that Randle is starting I wonder if LA considers him, Ingram, Kouzma & Ball their core and maybe they now match offers for Randle?

Hell of a debut - he looks and sounds like a legit pass first guard - and with knight coming back it raises the question of whether we’re stocked at PG all of a sudden...meaning our draft is for a big man and big man only.

I love Doncic but if the above holds, even I can’t see how we’d fit him in.

*and also adds to the schizophrenia I feel about McD ... he gets so much wrong but if Payton and bender pan out, on top of warren and Booker he’s done a fair bit outstandingly right also.

If Payton's play holds true, I think it opens the Suns horizons in the draft. I still believe in drafting BPA but it opens the door for the Suns to draft a big man with their first pick if Young (or Doncic) is not there.

I'm not counting on Knight.

If the Suns do draft a PG with their first pick, it lessens the possibility of the Suns keeping Payton.

Isaiah Thomas in his Cavs and Lakers debut looked like a completely different player. Guys that get traded want to prove right out of the gate that their team was wrong for getting rid of them.
