I got suckered into watching a "not to be missed" ER. Fricking Must See TV. So I caught the 2nd half. Suns looked amazing in the first part of the 3rd quarter. Passing the ball, JJ hitting shots,, Amare drawing double teams down low and finding Jake open for a hoop. Monster dunks of sweet pick and rolls.

And then we looked pretty average the rest of the game. Why cant we play a full 48 minutes like that first 6 minutes of the thrid quarter?

Obviously I'm happy for the W's, but the Suns are going to need to do better to make the playoffs. So far they've beaten Cleveland, Memphis, Golden State, Chicago, and Orlando. That's not exactly an impressive bunch of teams.

But geez, when was the last time we could actually say we beat all those teams? Instead of beating SA, Dallas, Sac, and losing to Denver, Memphis, GS, and Orlando...

Good point Chap,

They need to beat the teams they are supposed to, protect the home floor, and they are in the playoffs. True they need to beat some of the better teams and I think they will. This team is young and I think we will all be happy if we just see some growth and improvement over the next year or so.

They've been in every game they played so far, maybe with the exception of the Jazz game. With Jahidi, Williams, and Zarko I think it is likely they would have beaten the Lakers.

So there is reason to regain a little optimism.

Is it my imagination, or is the coaching improving some as well?

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm happy that the Phoenix Suns are beating the teams they should be able to beat. I'm also happy that with the exception of the Utah game they were right there in every game. I just believe there is quite a bit of room for improvement.

They need to start closing their games much better I like they did last season. It was the clutch play of guys like Marbury, Shawn Marion, Amare Stoudemire, and Penny Hardaway that put them in the playoffs last season.

There's no question that there is room for improvement. But right now, we need to take advantage of our strengths as well as other teams' weaknesses, especially in this stretch when we play less than stellar teams.

One of the things we need to work on is our substitutions. It seems like we'll start a game hot and go up by 10 pts and then at the 6 minute mark of the 1st qtr, FJ will pull out JJ & Amare & whatever center is in and put in Penny, Zarko/Googs & Jake and we struggle and lose most or all of our lead. This also happens in the 2nd half of the 3rd qtr. I think FJ might be subbing too many guys out at once and it disrupts the chemistry on the floor. Maybe FJ should try just subbing Jake in for White or Williams and then bring Penny in around the 2 minute mark for JJ or Marbury.

I know that Marion, Marbury, Amare and JJ probably all get about 40 minutes a game, but the 8 minutes they're out doesn't have to be at the same time as each other.

I also think that once substitutions occur, the players need to recognize who the best offensive options are that are on the floor. If Marion is on the floor with Zarko, Penny, Barbosa & Jake then he should try to make more of an effort to get himself involved and show some leadership. Same thing goes for Amare & Marbury if they are on the floor with the 2nd team, but it seems like Shawn tends to disappear more than Steph and Amare.
