Is Butler a point guard?

Do you think he would prefer Phoenix to either New York or Los Angeles next season?

Yeah, Butler seems to reeeeeeally not like playing with young developing players. I don't see any reason he'd be happier here than he's been in Minnesota or Chicago.

Never been a fan of Butler he wore out his welcome in Chicago and now he's doing it with the T-Wolves.

I always viewed Butler as a guard, he has the ball a lot for a wing.

Butler has officially asked to be traded by the Wolves. Apparently he gave them a list that has 1-3 teams listed as places that he would sign an extension. Rumored the Celtics, Sixers, Lakers, and Knicks are looking at acquiring him. One of them won't be on his list but I don't see that as an issue for any of them. I think the only reason the list isn't a little longer is that it's tough to gauge what teams may actually make a move for him. Surely if the Rockets or Warriors made room for him he would be happy there but the odds of that happening are virtually non-existent. You never know who might creep into a deal though. Like how the Rockets acquired Chris Paul and the Thunder acquired Paul George and Melo last offseason. Neither team seemed like they would be big time players in the trade market but both pulled off big moves.

Just saw a report that it's the Nets, Knicks or Clippers. Color me surprised.

His list of team looks very similar to Dragic’s when he requested a trade as well

The Nets don't have much to trade. I guess they could send D'Angelo Russell out for Butler but I don't see the Wolves excited at that return. They finally have their own picks to deal again also.

The Knicks have some pieces but they also have cap money this summer to sign him outright. It would be very Knicks to give up all of their youth for him now though, like they did for Melo back in the day. Knox, Ntilikina, and Noah?

The Clippers are a weird one. I'd say Avery Bradley would fit Thibs style but he resigned there so I don't think he can be dealt until December 15th. Tobias Harris has some value but not enough for this.

I think the Knicks have the best chance since they have assets and Thibs might be the only person dumb enough to take on Noah's contract. If they can get a couple of the Knicks youngsters on rookie deals then Noah's contract isn't that awful.

Jimmy wants to be the man.

Nets. Three way. We somehow get Dinwiddie or DAR?

Hmm.

Nets get: Jimmy Butler
Minny gets: Dermarr Carroll, TJ Warren, Nets first (2019), Milwaukee first (2019)
Suns get: DAR, Tyus Jones.

Not sure DAR is the player we want, but its what works cap wise. This is really lop-sided Suns wise, but I am not sure how to fix it make the cap work.

Oh well. Its an effort. Gives Cheese a chance to mock me.

Going with your idea I switched around the assets some...

Phoenix Gets - Tyus Jones, DeMarre Carroll
Minnesota Gets - D'Angelo Russell, TJ Warren, and Troy Daniels - Brooklyn 1st
Brooklyn Gets - Jimmy Butler

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine/?tradeId=y7772jdk

Jones can be our potential PG of the future and Carroll's contract is expiring. That's why we would do it. We lose TJ but gain cap space and a PG.

Minnesota gets a good young combo guard in Russell, a wing scorer in Warren, and Daniels for a shooter off the bench plus Brooklyn's pick.

Brooklyn gets Butler and they keep Dinwiddie to pair with him as their backcourt going forward.

Faried is another player Brooklyn has that Minnesota might have interest in as a throw in but I couldn't find a way to make all of that work without making the trade too big. Everyone walks away with something decent here. It's no longer lopsided in the Suns favor either.

Perhaps the Nets pick comes here and we agree to send the worst pick of ours, Brooklyns, and Milwaukee's to Minnesota instead of them getting the Nets pick outright. That gives them a more valuable pick, potentially.

It would give the Suns a chance to kick the tires on Tyus Jones as PGOTF and the opportunity to look at DeMarre Carroll, another player they might want to keep.

However, I'm not sold on Jones. The Suns could end up trading Warren for players that will not be on their roster next season.

Phoenix gets Tobias Harris and Pat Bev
Minnesota gets Josh Jackson and Tyson Chandler
LAC gets Jimmy Butler

This is just a frameworks, as picks and sweeteners would be needed especially for Minny.

Beverly, Booker, Ariza, Harris, Ayton

That's the best line-up we've had in years.

If Minnesota would let Butler go for Jackson and Chandler then we should acquire him with hopes of winning him over so he resigns with us. It would cost a lot of picks for that trade to work for Minnesota because they're not getting much in terms of talent. I like Jackson but Chandler has no real value in that trade.

I get it, I see where you are going. I just think of JJ has ours so its a bit difficult to wrap my brain around. Here is the deal. Would I trade JJ for Harris straight up? Not sure. Pat Bev is not really a factor.

The sweeteners would have to go from the Clips to Minny.

I was on the JJ train until I saw him in his 2nd summer league. He looked like hot garbage. I think his absolute ceiling is a cross between Josh Howard and Shawn Marion.

I see what you are saying, but he is so young, so talented, and doesn't seem to have a bad attitude. I would not be writing him off yet.

No thanks. Tobias Harris is set to be an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Suns might want to pursue him in free agency.

If we're going to risk trading for someone who can walk next summer unless we convince him to stay here, I would rather go for Kemba Walker.

If we're trading for someone who can walk next summer I would like to make a go at Ricky Rubio. He should be cheaper than all other names and even though he has an incredibly punchable face he knows Igor's offense and is on the right side of 30, plays defense, can knock down 3's, and find his teammates in position to score. He's not a name like Kemba Walker but I think he would have more of a positive impact than anyone who isn't a legit All-Star. I wonder what it would take to get him from Utah though. I would do Bender and the Bucks pick, easily. Warren is a possibility also. I don't think Utah has bad contract they would look to unload so I'm not sure what sort of deal could be worked with them.
