That was a joke, I can remember hearing that comparison last year when we signed him as a UDFA. Just wanted to make sure no one took offense to it.

Last season Dennis Green worked his magic in this area lets see if he can do it again. By the way everyone knows these guys are gambles but does anyone know if any of 2005 are still with the Cardinals?

2005 guys still with the team include Francisco, Shazor, Reid, and Holiday. There may even be more.

Maybe they're trying to find a return man. What ever happened to Dan Sheldon?

Sheldon was actually signed by another team.

Another QB/WR type. Is Green looking for trickplay player a la Randle El?

Damarius Bilbo
WR, Georgia Tech
War Room analysis
Strengths: Has good height and a thick build. Is a natural athlete. Uses body to outmuscle and dominate cornerbacks. Shows some quickness off the snap. Is physical. Shows good mobility and hands.

Weaknesses: Lacks speed. Is inexperienced at the position and needs significant work on his technique. Runs somewhat raw routes. Could struggle to create separation and get open downfield against NFL defensive backs.

Bottom line: Bilbo is a former quarterback who made the transition to wide receiver but still has aspirations of playing quarterback in the NFL. He is a good athlete, but his NFL potential is at wide receiver and he must commit to learning the intricacies of the position. Bilbo needs a lot of work but has the potential to be a pro receiver.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is big and athletic. Has good hands. Is a former quarterback. Doesn't have much speed, but finds a way to make plays. Is physical. Did not helped himself in postseason workouts. Has made strides, but remains a work in progress.

Chris Harrell
S, Penn State
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is a hard-working, high-intensity strong safety who is comfortable playing between the tackles. Can get off blocks and get to the ball carrier. Is intelligent; reads plays quickly to compensate for a lack of elite speed and quickness. Is good in the middle of the field and matches up well when covering tight ends. Can be a force on special teams.

Weaknesses: Lacks adequate measurables, especially speed and agility. Doesn’t make smooth cuts in transition and loses ground on receivers because of poor hip rotation. A serious neck injury ended his 2004 season and raises durability concerns.

Bottom line: Harrell lacks the prototypical athletic ability. He is an accomplished run defender and solid tackler, which make him attractive as a special teams player. However, his limited coverage ability could make him a late-round selection or free agent.

No, but here's what we had on him on the BRS -

Rnk 19
Player/School Justin Wyatt, USC
Ht 5091
Wt 189
40 4.63
BP 14
10 --
20 --
VJ 40
BJ 10-1
SS --
LS --
3C --
WUN 26

BRS: *Another short cover guy. Appears to have necessary skills, brains and some degree of explosiveness, but lacks the functional speed needed by a guy his size to make big plays. Post season forty time may be key to his eventual rating. (4.63 not very impressive).

Post Season/Combine/Pro Day Notes - Spoke with Cardinals.

PFW (Nawrocki): *Not the ballhawk undersized corners need to be to survive in the pros....late draftable prospect...naturally athletic and fluid mover...alert in coverage with the quickness to play underneath in zone coverage...uses hands well at LOS and can shadow receivers for 20 yards...tough...works hard...solid character....but too small...lacks great burst to play the ball and should make more plays than he does...struggles in off-coverage...average ball skills.

ESPN Scouts Inc. - Pluses: Experienced, technically sound and reliable. Quick feet and good overall athletic ability. Can flip his hips quickly with the body control to keep with the double-move. Does not lose much in transition. Stays balanced in his pedal and shows good initial burst out of it. Instinctive and does a good job of reading QB's eyes in zone.Equally adept in man-to-man and zone coverage. Plays bigger than his size. Fills hard versus the run and has developed into a decent run-support DC.

Minuses: *Marginal size. Lacks height & leaping ability to match up versus taller receivers on the perimeter. Would be a target on fade routes and jump balls in the NFL. Tough and physical, but lacks strength to match up physically. WR's will be able to dictate their routes and shield him. Struggles to get off of blocks and match up at POA as a tackler against bigger RB's. Quicker than fast. Can turn and run but lacks ideal speed to keep up vertically with many of the faster NFL WR's. Lacks closing burst to make up for mistakes. Below average ball skills and does not make many big plays.

In a Nutshell: *Experienced cover corner who has seemingly gotten the most out of his physical tools. Good instincts, quickness and confidence in coverage, as well as good aggressiveness and toughness in run support. But he has just adequate speed and marginal size, which limits his NFL ceiling. Also is not much of a playmaker. Projects as a No. 4 cornerback and a cover-guy on special teams - a possibility in the final few rounds.

Sporting News War Room - Tremendous natural athlete. Adequate size and speed. Fluid athlete who can turn and run smoothly with receivers. Changes directions well. Covers well in short spaces. Good footwork and good hands - has been used as a WR . Tough and not afraid to step up and make a hit.Good tackling skills. Somewhat undersized and might struggle against big NFL receivers. Some durability concerns (hernia). Lacks elite speed. Must improve his route-recognition skills and ball skills. Must do a better job of finding the ball in the air and making plays. Excellent athlete and a tough, physical player. Not the same hitter and playmaker as a Senior as he was in the past. Potential should keep him in Day 1, but he must run well at postseason workouts.

Not very tall. Speed is in the Renaldo Hill area. 40" vertical and 10-1 broad jump suggests he has more burst than his forty time would suggest. You have to wonder whether former teammates, Matt & Deuce might have tipped off RG or DG that he'd be worth picking up.

DE A.J. Schable (South Dakota)
QB Micheal Spurlock (Mississippi)
WR Greg Lee (Pittsburgh)
CB Darrell Hunter (Miami (OH))
DB Chris Harrell (Penn St.)
DB Jay McCareins (Princeton)
WR Damarius Bilbo (Georgia Tech)
CB Justin Wyatt (USC)

That seems to be the list taht we know of as of now.

Looks like our goal for UDFA was to get competition at the returnman spots, DB depth chart spots, and a few QB/WR slasher types.

This also leaves us 2 spots left on our roster to fill to get to the 86 mark(80 + 6 NFLE exceptions). I expect to see 2 more signings from UFA's or UDFAs pretty soon.

Justin Wyatt
CB, USC
Overall grade: 5.4
Position rank: 18
War Room analysis
Strengths: Is aggressive and physical at the point of attack. Shows excellent footwork, and doesn't lose much speed when changing direction. Shows good work ethic, and hustles on every play. Against the run, shows good instincts. Is a strong tackler who breaks down and wraps up. Is versatile, and can contribute on special teams.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal size and speed. Lacks the height to win jump balls. Will struggle against NFL speed receivers. Shows below-average ball skills. Is not a playmaker.

Bottom line: After missing '05 spring practice for hernia surgery, Wyatt started every game as a senior. He is a gritty player who has a mean streak and will contribute immediately on special teams. His lack of size and speed will hold him back, though. He could be selected late in Round 5 or early in the sixth round.

Dan Pompei analysis
Is short, and lacks elite speed. Is best in zone coverage. Is good with the receiver in front of him, but gets beat downfield. Is feisty, and has good intangibles. Probably will be nothing more than a nickel back.
