how does a guy who's not very durable, doesn't have good quickness and has a mediocre at best arm have all of the physical tools?
He moves fine in the pocket--he's mobile, but he's not a scrambler. And he can make "all the throws" (as they say in the business). He doesn't have a rocket-arm, but his arm strength isn't holding him back.

Go ask any NFL scout and they'll tell you the same thing. ML's problems aren't in his body, they're in his head and/or his heart.

actually, he can't. I've read and heard multiple people talk about how Matt has never been able to throw the long 20 yard out pattern and how he couldn't ever come close to succeeding in the garbage can drill which is all about the corner throw to the endzone, one of the staples of the offense. Something he was horrific at.

most Scouts I've heard and most reports I've heard and everything I've SEEN tells me differently.

If he had an arm that could make all the throws, he doesn't fall to us in the first place. That was the biggest knock on him coming out of college.

Dude doesn't have ONE special attribute. He's mediocrity across the board physically and he's got head/heart problems.Add that all up together and you've got a recipe for a horrific quarterback.

A defensive coach I spoke with recently gave me this scouting report on Leinart:
» Has arm strength to make almost all of the throws, but he throws "soft" passes, which sometimes hang and are easy to deflect or intercept.

Again, I'm not saying he's going to make it (though I lean towards he'll still have a career in the NFL), but his shortcomings are not in his body (other than possibly being injury-prone, but we have a small sample size there). His problems are mental.

Guess what all of them have in their contract? Can you say NFL Escape Clause? As if Garcia is tied to his $500 a week contract in the UFL.

Can you say you don't know what the hell you're talking about? Here's a quote from a N.Y. Post 9/1/10 article by Brian Lewis (Google it if you like)

"The Giants also reportedly showed offseason interest in Jeff Garcia, but he's under contract with the UFL Omaha Nighthawks and would have to be released before signing in the NFL, something Omaha is unlikely to do".

So you see you are simply dead wrong. There are no such "escape clauses" in UFL contracts. What the hell kind of a league would entertain letting their players be tampered with and then simply walk away, during the season no less?

Such contract's would be valuless and that's why such clauses don't exsist. And as far as Garcia is concerned I guess he is dumb enough to play, as you say, for $500 a week.

It's amazing...people are more Pro-Leinart than Pro-Cardinal.

You, Nashman, and azsouthendzone should get a Leinart Houston jersey and root for the new Texan clipboard holder.

Where in my post is anything more pro Leinart than pro Cardinal? The poster asked who Leinart was and I told him and even mentioned that Fitz had 170+ yards receiving in one game vs the Vikings.

Some people are so Anti-Leinart around here you can't say anything good about anybody if Matt is included.

That's ridiculous. You don't have to have blind-faith to be a true cardinals fan. Almost without exception people who wanted to see Leinart as the QB this season, wanted to see that for lack of a better option and recognize he has his shortcomings.

FWIW...I thought drafting Leinart was one of the greatest days in Cardinal history...thought we stole him.

I am just as pissed that he isn't our QBOF but I came to that conclusion a long time ago. Warner was blasted and now Whis...for Leinart (who has proven nothing). What have the other two done for this franchise?

Me, too. I thought he was our ticket to respectability.

Shame on me.

Me three. I always felt that was the day the Cards luck turned from none at all to good. It's like winning a million bucks in the lottery and then finding out the pay off is $10,000 a year for a hundred years.

While I appreciate the anecdotal opinion of this coach, he's wrong on Leinart's arm strength. One afternoon, Bickley and MJ went through a detailed explanation of his accuracy, and as you might think, he excelled on passes less than 10 yards. His accuracy on those passes were above average. On passes longer than that, his numbers were poor, much worse than average. I don't have the energy to pull up the stats, but they were very telling, and probably the main reason he's no longer on the team.

Yep. Knowing how much a legit starting qb makes a team a contender, I thought we were set for the next 10 years at the position. Unfortunately, all of our wishful thinking put together didn't make him a decent starting qb.
