Jackson chose the Cards over the Steelers. Duane Starks left the Ravens to sign here. They never really panned out, but they were sought-after FA's.

Money talked then and it still does.

renz... does money talk for the Clippers?

what in our history leads you to believe this? we don't even go out and sign good free agents NOW. We sign middle of the road guys... but if we lost every impact player, then we'd go after the big boys... and they'd come here? Really curious as to your logic here.

Money talks.

Money talks.

why hasn't it talked for us in the past? again, what in the past with the Cardinals leads you to believe money talks?

I'll ask you the same thing I asked Renz. Does money talk for the Clippers?

and jackson wasn't a marquee FA. just because one other team wanted him, doesn't make him special.

Clippers don't pay.

um... what would losing Fitz, Dansby, Rolle, Q, Breaston, making Warner go out and get and offer from someone else look like Mulli? NOT PAYING. what does sitting on 30 million dollars look like? NOT PAYING. What does sitting on another 11 million the next season look like? NOT PAYING.

And the Clippers try to pay but no one wants their money... not even their own players. They offered Elton Brand more money than Philly and he bailed on them. They tried to get into the big FA sweepstakes last summer and no one even wanted to meet with them. They routinely tried to re-sign guys only to see them bolt, or bring in FA who use them.

Cards signed Warner.

cards signed Warner after he had washed out of two teams and he was gotten on the cheap.

NO just brought in a completely new staff and spent a lot of money on Brees. What they did was completely BREAK from their routine. whereas if we lose Fitz, we will be continuing on the same routine this team has had for... well... ever.

Nope. Not the same. I am not buying your pessimism. If I did, I would stop following the team all together.

LOL. He was only the starter on the Super Bowl champs, but whatever.

and so was Larry Brown... Duane Starks, etc, etc. Does simply being a starter on a Super Bowl automatically makes someone a marquee FA?

and he was a starter on a Super Bowl team who made no effort to bring him back and their defense didn't miss a beat the next season.

can these things be argued?

So Warner still thought he had something left. And he did. Or do you think Warner was on his way out of league and NO ONE else wanted him like Edge.

And Brees was still willing to sign in NO with a new staff because of the money? Or did no one else want Brees like no one else wanted Edge or Warner?

why is it not that same? If you simply want to say it's the same because i can't bear the thought of rooting for a Clipper-esque team, I get it. But what's the argument on the other side besides "it's not the same" simply because you say so?

Cards went to playoffs twice in a row and went to the Super Bowl. Whiz does not equal Del Negro.

Clips?

most people thought Warner was on his way out of the league. and I'm still waiting for reports of anyone else wanting Edge but us. But even with those signings, they were much like the Brees signing, where we had a new managment team and what people thought was a proven winner in DG. Those things made the team attractive again after being in the dark ages for 6 years. If Fitz leaves, I just think we'll need a complete revamp and will have to bring in a completely new staff to have the same kind of impact a still-then-impressive DG had.

And Brees was still willing to sign in NO with a new staff because of the money? Or did no one else want Brees like no one else wanted Edge or Warner?

um... no one else did want Brees so it was a happy marriage going to NO who had a shiny new staff. The only other team that sniffed him was Miami and they bowed out because of his shoulder concerns. It wasn't like he had a lot of options.

Where are you reports that no one wanted him? Just because the idiots in Miami passed on him....

Still waiting on reports that Edge was unwanted by all but the Cards.

Dunleavy took the Clippers to within 1 game of the Western Conference Finals and 1 game of the playoffs the next year. Then, they systematically dismantled the team and alienated star players who spurned their offers when they became FA and thus are where they are now and have been for four years.

if we suck again and Fitz DOES leave, after two consecutive bad seasons and a mass exodus of talent, I don't see how it's any different. and that's what we're talking about IF Fitz leaves and the only reason I see him leaving is our moves this off-season did very little to help the team and he doesn't believe he can win here.

those were the only two teams interested in Brees at the time.

can't find articles that don't exist. You're asking me to prove a negative. Bottom line, do you remember ANY article that talked about other possible destinations for Edge at the time?

Moves did plenty to me. Weren't any moves to get to Super Bowl contender status. If Fitz expected more, he was as good as gone as already after last year.

Yep, prove what you are saying. Otherwise, I am not buying it.

I guess the Lions were interested in Brees also but once FA started, I only remember Miami and NO going for him and Miami bowing out because of his shoulder.

but see down below where it talks about Edge... it only mentions the Cardinals as suitors as his own team had no interest in signing him.

Dunleavy didn't do it. He is terrible and always will be. He put in an unused rookie to guard Raja Bell I believe who was on fire.

didn't Cards sign Edge the first or second day for PFT could make up suitors for him?

why did it have to be Super Bowl or bust? there were plenty of moves to make us contenders, or at least put us in better position to do so. The idea that this is somehow going on Larry's shoulder, that his expectations are too high after making the playoffs with a relatively young team and that should continue don't make much sense to me.
