ESPN had Shefter and Mortensen on(around 12:45am when I heard that) Mortensen said we are out of the running now. But he said something that really made me think. He said the Cards went plan B and paid Kolb his money. He then said Manning was extremely intrigued by the Cardinals. he said he is really close with Ken Whisenhunt and the pieces we had here. He basically said the Cardinals ran out of time and Manning wanted to be thorough!

John Clayton came on at 1:15am and was asked what happened to Miami and Arizona....Why are they out....He said for the Cardinals it was time!!! He said Manning was very interested...but time hit and they paid Kolb. Manning wasn't really interested in Miami.

This really pisses me off now!!! The Cardinals drug their feet. I mean why not cut Kolb...Go all in for Manning...It isn't like Skelton is worse than Kolb!!! If they would have went all in for Manning, and flew out there to watch him...Bring Fitzgerald to the meetings and workouts...I feel Manning might have chosen us.

You could hear it in Mortensen's voice when he said...Manning was extremely intrigued with us...and he is very close to Whiz!!!

WTF...why wouldn't we go all out like Denver and Tennessee??

It's over - let it go!

An admin on the Cards message board said that all new Peyton threads were being moved off the main Cards section of the board. I'd be 100% in favor of this on here too!

If we had a really legit shot, I'm sure we would have dumped Kolb and freed up the cap space. There were more wins to that.

I have to believe they didn't feel they had a legit shot.

Blame goes both ways. If Peyton really wanted Az he could have given them some kind of hope he was leaning towards them. The Cards can't be blamed for looking out for themselves first.

Edit: I honestly feel this was his way of letting the Cardinals down easy. He didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings so he let time run out.

Listen..It was just on...and this all just happened today...so we should have a day to reflect! But lets be serious....If Manning goes to San Fran....THE CARDINALS HAVE NO SHOT of winning our division. None. Our schedule is brutal...and the 49ers won't lose more than 4 games....I mean it is depressing...that we go from Super Bowl to almost forgotten in 3 years. I know we won 8 games...I know we went 7-2....But let's be honest. We won 4 games in Overtime against the likes of the Rams and Browns. And we had Peterson break an NFL record for returning Punts for TD's.....

If the 49ers get Manning....we are screwed for 3 years.

I'm not saying don't talk about it -- but the event is over from our perspective and there's currently 27 current threads on the main page about Peyton Manning - including ones that blame Manning, blame the Cardinals, or just rant in general. Do we really need to be opening new threads at this point that only talk about how disappointed and/or angry we all are?!

If the 49ers get Manning...our defense needs to demolish him. Send everybody.

LOL...i agree.... That would be classic to watch 11 players blitz. But I agree...I would devise a defense that Sunday...to Blitz someone or a few every play from everywhere. In fact lets sign Usain Bolt...and line him up at def end...

I just don't see Manning/Harbough being a good fit. Harbough proved last season that he could make Alex Smith a Pro Bowl level QB...Alex...freaking...Smith... Manning would want control. Harbough will be really hesitant to give it completely up. The only way it works is if they come out so hot that nobody can stop them. If there is any indifference at all, that situation could BLOW UP...especially with a spark plug like Randy Moss and Vernon Davis in their locker room.

Give me a freaking break, what do you expect an organization to do...release Kolb when clearly Manning had not made up his mind about anything? Total bs because I'm sure that Manning knew that if he was interested and said yes, Kolb would be cut right then and there. The Cards did the intelligent thing with a guy who still has not made up his mind. The Cards are not going to be turned into a villain for a golden boy named Manning who does not know what he wants to do. Hear in Mortensen's voice...who cares, the guy is not the Cardinals or Manning

So, if I shove this grenade in my mouth will it still detonate or will my cheeks act like the pin?

I want it quick and painless.

Calling it a matter of the deadline is a cop-out, IMO. If Manning wanted to be here he would have said so--the deadline wasn't a surprise. Likewise, if the Cardinals were legit in moving on w/o Kolb (oh no!) they would have done so sooner in the process.

Well, I guess Manning was responsible for all 14 of the Super Bowl victories in the last 14 years, the time that he has been in the league. What? He only has 1 Super Bowl victory? Who won the other 13? It wasn't him? I thought you had to have him to win it all?

I don't know about time being THE issue. I say if Manning called the Cards on Thursday next week and said that he wanted to play for the Cards, they would make the necessary adjustments to get him in under the cap.

It reminds me of whne LeBron James was in high school and he stopped by the OSU Bbal coaches to ask why they weren't recruiting him. Everyone knew he was going pro. The OSU coahc just told him, if he wanted to play for OSU that they'd make a spot for him. In other words, why waste time and effort on something you know isn't happening.

I agree with Cbus in that the Cards did rework Kolb's bonus so only 1 mil hit this year. That's a pretty easy to work around.

A lot of us spent hours looking at "news" trickling out during the Manning grand tour and most if not of all (95%) it was pure speculation but now all of a sudden Mort and schmegal know what happened........give me a break.

The Cards gave it their best shot. My only gripes are (1) They went into a knife fight with one arm tied down & armed with a ping pong paddle. So knowing that - why get involved in Operation Wheel Spin in the first place? (2) During the past 2 days - with helicopters peeking through every known orifice of Elway, Adams etc., the Cardinals left its fans hanging. They had to know what was going down early yesterday, but we heard nary a peep (not even a "nothing new; we're working on it" lie. Nada). I think it made the franchise come off as weak and a bit in over its head.

On a more positive note - Michael had to get his feet wet sooner or later when it came to mixing it up with the big boys. He and his staff (& we fans) have the golden opportunity to learn from the experience so that next time, it won't be our first rodeo.

Another angle - If Manning remains all that good and risk free (& the club who signs him will have to pay off the money Indy would have had to pay him), why wouldn't Indy have paid him & kept him, since it would have kept them a SB contender for the next 4 years?

None of this - either one way or the other - is a 100% lock. It's a team sport and an injury-ridden collision sport with an oblong ball that bounces funny.
