"There are lots of systems, there are tons of systems," Moore said. "But the trick is no systems, the trick is players and making sure you take something that the players can do and not get into, 'Well, this is mine and this is what we're going to do.' It's what's best for the players."

What no system...LOL :)

Thank goodness.

That's a great quote and obviously the complete opposite philosophy to what we have seen over the past few years.

I would expect the Cards will have a number of young, bright assistants to do grunt work. A sort of in house mentoring program.

I would hope so because today's entitled youngsters, who will be making a lot of money, will eat those old geezers alive, lol. They probably cannot relate to the young african-american men that play today.

I give them 2 years :gee: :)

Coach Moore: "Be a teacher not a presenter. Learn how to teach technique. It doesn’t matter that you don’t know power point if you can teach technique. With all the technology today the best teachers win. Look at Belichick and Coughlin they are teachers. They have simple schemes but they can teach the techniques that make those schemes work. Designer offenses never last or win in the long run. A designer offense is just a collection of plays that have no connection with one another. I played for Forest Evashevski at the University of Iowa and we ran the Wing T & everything fit together. We had about 500 yards in the Rose Bowl. The guys who can teach players what they don’t know are coaches."

I'm a big fan of this line of thinking.

Very interesting. I could swear in the past we had coaches complain that we wouldn't hire all the assistants some of our coaches wanted.

Looks like that is no longer a concern.

It seems Arians presented quite a list of candidates for the staff. What a nice shocker.

Looks like Keim and Arians will be able to get input from the guy running the pass rushing drills and assuming Lott continues what he's done also the bench press portion. Those Cardinal decisions just got a whole lot more interesting.

If we were to also get Alex Gibbs, who runs the zone blocking scheme, it would be mighty impressive. Many of us here, myself included have wanted us to switch to it for some time. According to the below article, he basically invented the modern day zone blocking schemes. The Quote from the article below

For those who may not know, Gibbs is best known for developing the modern zone blocking scheme, made most famous out in Denver with the Broncos when they won their two Super Bowls in the late 90's. Gibbs moved on to the Falcons, where he mentored Seahawks Assistant Head Coach Tom Cable, then on to Houston and for a brief while in Seattle before retiring.

(oh and the above link ALSO has videos of Gibbs teaching his scheme...the article says 6-10 hours worth.)

If we land Gibbs, then I can see WHY MB went this route. Hard to pass up this much quality coaching.

It seems Arians had a who's who list of specialists backing his coordinator picks. Very impressive.

If we don't land Gibbs, the others still make for a solid staff. With this new information it completely changes the outlook of the strength of this staff. Whatever we fear may be lacking from any coordinators is backed up by the knowledge of the specialists.

Amazing what a few days of filling out the staff can do. We didn't know what the front office did, and with this growing list of staff, the rationale of the choice that was made becomes much clearer. With this much and possibly more with Gibbs, Horton simply couldn't compete with it.

I'm shocked.

This is resembling the geriatric staff Vermeil put togther in St.Louis. The good thing about that is they became a dominant team.

From an X's & O's standpoint, I've always visualized the football field as some kind of giant EXCEL spreadsheet'with cells blocked in or left blank in any freakin' pattern the play-designer wanted. (Heck! If a 0-0-11 defense or an 11-man front (with every guy dropping back in a zone) works, then go for it)!

Or (as the Niners have been known to do) if it makes sense to replace your skill players with 300 lb dudes to play "smashmouth", all options are "on."

This is BA following his words with actions. He said he would stress technique and good habits so that 'Cards don't beat Cards'. These hires are a perfect example of providing the teachers who are MOST CAPABLE of doing just that. Anybody on the roster willing to watch, listen, and learn from them will stick. Those who won't do so will go away.

I thought Whiz changed the culture when he came here, but this, THIS, is pure culture change. Michael has flipped this franchise for real. I have watched a lot of football in my 70 plus years, but THIS is like going to football heaven in my eyes. This is beyond what I had EVER dared to dream of. The possibilities are almost endless from here on. Thank you Michael and Steve, and thank you BA. You are men of your word and I thank you for that. GO CARDS !!!!!

Well...I'm a little bit nervous about Drake. (But based on all the other anticipated hires, how can you not give BA the benefit of the doubt)

One stat I saw about Darryl Drake was during the Bears' Super Bowl season in 2006, his receivers caught 282 of 294 passes, at an astounding 95.9%.

I am on board this Cardinal train. I was also one of the people who against firing Whishenhunt, but I am liking what is going on. A change has been made in the front office philosophy. To change something negative to a positive, it starts at the top.

Hopefully Tom Moore has a few more years in him. He was the OC for the Manning Colts while Jim Caldwell was the statue on the sidelines imitating a HC. .

Lets give credit where it is due. Whiz DID change the culture around here. For many of us the losing isn't just the norm anymore. It is unpalatable after the '08 season. Perhaps more importantly it gave Michael his first true taste of winning. And Mikey liked it.

I am already amped up for next season. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Gil Brandt is senile but Tom Moore is a great hire.

The guy who a year ago was considered for our QB coach position to work with his buddy Ken Whisenhunt and was not retained by his previous team, which just happened to employ him in the same position as CKW before the Cards hired Ken, has suddenly improved so much he's a great addition as our HC and is going to be different than CKW.

The only thing this off season has shown me so far is that Michael Bidwill is a Steelers fan. Just like his Grandfather was a Bears fan and his father was a Cowboys fan. Are there any Bidwills that are Cardinals fans?
