Feels like the Suns and Thunder have countering one another with trades to take that #8 playoff spot. For OKC it's about saving face with having all these stars and missing playoffs would be embarrassing. For PHX, it's about not being mediocre/stuck in the middle (#14) again.

We trade for Wright, OKC trades for Waiters.

We trade for Bullock, OKC trying to land Lopez.

(Timeline line might be off with OKC making the moves first but you get the point)

I wonder what McD would counter with if the Thunder do end up acquiring Lopez. For the Suns, they need defense & rebounding at PF.

I don't know how CBS Sports ranks players but I think Faried is an upgrade over Kieff. He may not be as good offensively but he'd make up for it defensively and in rebounding. Sure Kieff can score but that's really all he does. He's not a good defender, he's a terrible rebounder for a PF, and he basically only passes to his brother. I don't think this team would miss his scoring since it could be replaced pretty easily by giving Dragic, Bledsoe, or Len more opportunities. Faried doesn't need the touches or plays that Kieff gets, he'd pick up most of his points like he has in Denver which are from put backs or easy close passes from driving guards.

Using CBS Sports rankings that you mentioned Kieff is right there in the middle when it comes to starting 4's in the league which pretty much says that he's an average player. He hasn't shown that he's a reliable option in the post or on the perimeter. If you look at his game log his consistency is limited to him getting about 10 points each night. Given the fact that neither our starting C & SF are averaging in double digits each night his scoring is almost by default. He only has 6 double doubles out of 41 starts and averages just under 6 a game. He hasn't improved his rebounding even though he's now getting more minutes and is the teams starting PF and closing C in almost every game this season. He has more technicals than double digit rebounding games, he actually leads the league with 9.

With both of their recent attitudes showing more I doubt they would handle being separated well. That locks the team into 2 players at forward for the next 4 years at 13 million per season who are average at best. I read a lot last season about those 2 being a big part of the teams chemistry but this season with all of the technicals plus decline in chemistry from last year I wouldn't be surprised if they're a larger part of that then we know. Kieff has 9 technicals and Marcus has 5, the team has 47 which is second in the league by only 1, behind the Clippers. Kieff had the best game of his career in a win against a team who has been touted as a contender in the east and blew off the reporters afterwards, Marcus thinks it's ok to yell in his coaches face when things don't quite go his way in a nationally televised game. I think it's better to move them now while they have value before they get labeled as a cancer like a Josh Smith type. The team bought out Beasley for attitude problems and they were trying to build a team with better character, I'm not saying the twins should be bought out or are at Beasley's level of foolishness yet but it's not hard to see them heading in that direction.

I don't have a problem with moving the twins but I think we're making a mountain out of a molehill about their attitude. They need to tone it down but have you actually watched them get their T's? I've been following the game for a long time and I swear I've never seen any player pick up so many mystery technicals. I don't mean the refs necessarily blew the call, it's just that on TV I often have no clue why/when a Morris is being T'd up. With other players, even on TV, it's been pretty clear who has crossed the line and how but not with these guys.

Other than the Marcus outburst the other night, it's not like they are throwing tantrums or anything - it's usually just a word or two and then a very quick whistle. According to our announcing crew Markieff was actually called for a T just for yelling "and one" as he scored. Could you imagine how many T's Amare would have collected if they did the same to him? The twins need to get it through their thick heads that they are under a microscope with the refs but I just don't see is as the unmanageable situation it's being built up to be.

I keep seeing this complaint but I definitely don't buy the "they never pass to anyone else" because it simply isn't true. They might need to pass more often but I've seen each of them make nice passes to other teammates and I'm not talking about once or twice either. And bad or not, Markieff averages 2 assists per game to Faried's 1.4. We don't run the offense through Markieff, we run it to him so 2 assists per game isn't out of line for a power forward.

It's also not true that Keef plays no defense and he isn't even a "terrible" rebounder, at least career-wise. As far as I can tell he looks to be a slightly above average defender if you ignore the rebounds (and doing otherwise would be gigging him twice for the same issue). If you look at his yearly numbers he's down over a rebound per 36 minutes this season which to me suggests that it's more of a system issue than a player weakness. Last year he averaged 8.1 rebounds per 36 which just isn't that bad.

He's also, by far, our best closer. Which for us should be a huge consideration because he's on a team of very poor closers. And I don't know what you mean about his inconsistency. That's another forum myth AFAIC. I don't think it's any more true than it is about most players and even if it was, it would only be a major issue if he were routinely inefficient (which he isn't, quite the contrary). If you want to see inconsistent, check out Faried's box scores. Faried has scored in single figures 14 out of his 35 games - Keef has been held to single figures in just 10 of his 41 games while averaging almost 3 fewer minutes per contest.

I won't contest that Faried is a much better rebounder but even there he's horribly inconsistent. This season alone he's had rebounding games of 5, 1, 1, 5, 5, 5, 3, 3 and 4. His gaudy average is the result of grabbing 80 boards in 4 games. It helps a lot in those 4 games but it means he's averaged fewer than 7.5 rebounds in his 31 other games. Anyway, maybe you're right and Kenneth is an upgrade over Keef. But he'll be making 4.5 million per year more for the next 4 seasons and I don't see how that can be anything close to a team upgrade.

Agree with all of this. Like it or not Keif has been our MVP.
There is no one player to blame for the Suns mediocrity. They have a lot of good players but no star. That is why they are where they are.

I am not even sure about this. They just have not quite meshed. They do not pass the ball like a team with this level of talent should. They do not run the ball like they have in the past.

With Len, the defense is vastly improved.

Steve, you've explained why Kieff and Mook shouldn't be getting technicals.

But they are getting technicals. That is the problem. That hurts the team.

I hope the Suns coaches understand why, better than we fans.

So far, they haven't reversed it or, evidently, the refs' perception either. It is trending downward.

I agree. I just don't agree that it's as big of a deal as some have suggested. Westbrook has the same number of technicals as Markieff and he's played in 17 fewer games, would we run him off too? I know he's a far superior player but the point is it isn't the end of the world. If he were Matt Barnes who has played in 4 fewer games and is a much less valuable player, I'd probably dump him for his 8 technicals but I'd rather we fix the issue with Markieff.

In the 15 years I've watched the Suns, they have always been disrespected by the refs. Whether it's because the refs see us as a soft team, a finesse team, a team that shoots a lot of 3s, etc. They simply don't call a lot of fouls for our players when they're driving to the basket (maybe 25% of the time they're fouled). Even when we had 2x MVP Steve Nash... he got fouled on every single play and rarely got to the ft line.

I don't know how these guys don't get a technical every game. With the star treatment that Lebron, Kobe, Duncan, etc get every single game with all the ticky tack foul calls in their favor. The game has never been a level playing field and it never will be unless they wipe out the entire officiating base & the trainers of the officials & the directors of the officials & the league office, etc etc.

I think it's reputation rather than conspiracy. The team is trying to change that reputation and the twins are doing their part. They play physically and are starting to get a little more respect from the refs but they are hurting themselves even more with their mouths. They just need to zip it and continue playing physically until our league wide image as a finesse team disappears. When that happens I think we'll get the calls that most teams get. We still won't get the superstar protection that Kobe, Lebron and Durant occasionally get but neither does Portland or Atlanta or most teams.

He also suggested we send Bledsoe and Len for him.

No thanks.

In 3 years we might all wish the Suns had traded Len when his stock was sky high but right now he seems on track to become the All NBA center we've all been waiting for.

Well they are going to want a big body in return in probably any trade they seek.

So does that mean you'd be ok for sending Len and Bledsoe for Kevin Love? We have a big body to send to them, his name is Miles Plumlee.

But if they insist on Len, I say no.

As much as I would like to see Love here, would not want to send Bledsoe and/or Len for him. Suns are actually playing well as a team and I am confused why there are all these trades happening. Maybe I am missing something....

Interesting, I thought Faried was a considerably better defender than Markieff but the tracking data for D at the rim says otherwise. They're very close with Markieff challenging a few more shots and Faried with a slightly better FGAgainst %. The day to day variations in their stats will swamp the differences.

I wouldn't give up anything of value for Love, there's little chance we're getting a long term commitment from him. Even if he did assure us there'd still be no guarantee he'd re-sign in the offseason. I like the idea of trying to make the playoffs but not at the expense of our future.

With no Bledsoe and Len + Love I don't think we make the playoffs. Thats our 2 best defenders (by a mile). We might be prettier to watch, those who are more concerned with Dragic's stat line line than winning will probably be happy as he would probably go bananas. But it would be an atrocious defensive team, that IMO would not be better than our current squad. And Love likely bolts on the off-season unless the team makes the playoffs and makes some noise.

In short, I think a Love for Bledsoe/Len trade would have serious potential to crush the competition as the worst trade in franchise history.

If the Suns want Love they should clear enough payroll in the summer to offer him a max contract as a UFA. I'd be OK with that. He's well worth the max allowed.

Never thought I'd say this, but I wouldn't trade Len for Love. Even if Love commits. Len may flame out, but the Suns finally have a legit rim protector who's rapidly improving. I'd roll the dice on him as opposed to the sure-thing in Love. Love is another scorer who plays zero defense.

I wouldn't either. I'd make that trade if I thought we were pretty close to being a championship contender but that doesn't seem to be the case. Love is a better player and he will likely continue to be better for at least a year or two (maybe forever) but there's a scarcity of two way big men and Len is just scratching the surface of his potential.

We'd probably have to trade the twins (for picks or rookie deals) to a team that could absorb the salary and do something similar with Thomas but I'd be fine with this.

I've never been eager to get KLove because of poor defense, lack of team success and he was out injured a fair amount. Now his rebounding has come back to earth - he still makes beautiful outlet passes, I must admit. Trade Len for him? Absolutely not! I wouldn't have agreed with that last year when Len had little going for him but potential.

At his salary and expected futures demands, I probably wouldn't take him for free. It will be interesting to see how high the bidding gets if he makes it to FA - flopping in Cleveland will probably hurt him a lot, and it should!

Cleveland will max him out just to avoid looking like complete idiots for giving Wiggins away.

If that's their plan it's a plan doomed to failure IMO. The writing was on the wall when they made the deal, they were complete idiots. I'm sure that the Lebron mouthpiece reporters will spin it their way by suggesting that nobody had any clue that Wiggins would actually become a star. But most fans know better. For most of us, Andrew's ascension into stardom was always about when not if.

The Wolves definitely won that trade as Wiggins looks to be special.
