Yes but even if Bynum blows out his knee his contract expires in 2013 so the risk is not that big. He will be 26 at that time which would be a good time for his next contract if he stays healthy.
Gortat will also be FA in 2013 and turn 30 2 months into the next season. Questionable timing to give someone the first huge contract in his career.
For the LAST ****ing time, even if Gortat's 30 years old, he doesn't have much mileage on him so he can play for a LONG LONG time. Greg Monroe who just came into the league a year or two ago probably has more minutes than him.

And who the hell cares if Gortat is assisted on his baskets? Pretty much every PG in the league now can run the pick & roll so if your telling me that Gortat needs to be run the pick & roll in order to be successful, I don't understand how that's a bad thing since every PG worth a damn can run that play.

Get out of here with your Gortat hate man. Go be a Laker fan so you can jump on Bynum's balls.

So, we trade Nash, Frye and Lopez for total crap? I want to get rid of these guys as much as the next, but really hope we don't grab our ankles on a deal like this.

Crap? All those players have major potential. The 1st rd pick can turn into something nice too.

If you wanna talk about crap then look up Channing Frye and Robin Lopez.

Major potential?

Marcus Morris- showed so much, he's in the D league!

Courtney lee - averages 9 points and shoots 34% from 3

Jordan Hill- top 10 pick averaging 4 and 5... B U S T

Jonny Flynn- averaging 3 and 3

LAL 1st rd pick- late first rounder

Sadly, the LA first rounder is probably more valuable than the rest of the scrubs you mentioned. Major potential? Wrong.

Age is age and you can go shove your mileage talk. Just because Gortat has not played starter minutes for most of his NBA career does not mean age does not affect him.

Any PG can run the pick and roll in order to be successful? Are we talking about the same NBA?

Isn't scoring efficiency more important than where the points come from? Are you telling me you'd rather have a center who shoots only layups, and misses half of them, than one who can go farther out, and make a higher overall percentage of everything?

I'd rather have a center that can play in the post and reliably get you baskets by backing down his man instead of a center who lives off of pick and roll basketball.

But most importantly I would rather have a center who could be a defensive anchor for the team because those players are virtually extinct at any other position. In the last 25 years there were probably 2 Power Forwards that could be called defensive anchors and they had the size of a center - Garnett and Duncan.

Gortat's birthday is Feb 17, 1984. He turns 28 next month. The guy likely has 10 freaking years left in the league. He should be productive at a high level throughout his next 5 year deal.

This is the perfect time in the career of a big man to have him on your roster. Oh, the insanity of this argument.

Gortat is one of the best defensive big men in the league right now.

I'd rather have one that can do both, but Bynum can do neither. Your own statistics show that Bynum is woefully inefficient for someone who gets as close to the basket as he does, as regularly as he does.

At this point, you have completely lost credibility.

http://www.hardwoodparoxysm.com/2012/01/the-most-marcin-gortat-marcin-gortat-piece-ever-written/

Gortat is also off to an auspicious start on the defensive end of the court. His individual defensive numbers are almost otherworldly so far this season, though they do come with some caveats.

Good luck scoring on him in the post, as he’s holding players to 0.7 PPP and 40.7% shooting there. Gortat is far too strong to get muscled by any opposing center not named Dwight Howard, and when they wind up trying to shoot over or around him, he has extremely long arms with which to challenge their shots. He’s similarly effective on isolations, allowing just 0.59 PPP and 30.8% shooting. Again, his incredible strength (I can’t overstate how strong this guy really is) and long arms are effective guarding against both bull-through moves and guys who try to shoot the ball over or around him. Those two types of plays account for 56.8% of the possessions used against him on defense this season, and his ability to guard them is a large part of his being 32nd in the NBA with 0.67 PPP against

See, individual defense alone is only half the story. Great defensive big man anchor a defense, alter shots and stop penetration because perimeter players in todays league have an impossible time trying to stay infront of their man.

2 things. One you just described something that Gortat is doing better this year. Second, I challenge you to find me more that a handful of centers that fit this bill.

Centers by definition usually do not create their own shot. Most cannot dribble penetrate and most of them are there to rebound, clean up shots and take them when given the ball inside.

But most importantly I would rather have a center who could be a defensive anchor for the team because those players are virtually extinct at any other position. In the last 25 years there were probably 2 Power Forwards that could be called defensive anchors and they had the size of a center - Garnett and Duncan.

Gortat is a good defensive player. There are very few teams who have one man that can be called in anchor at any position. Defense is a team concept for a reason. Chandler is widely excepted as one of the best defensive players in the league and has been called an anchor yet the Knicks are one of the top 10 worst defensive teams.

A defensive anchor is less important that having a group of decent defenders playing in a good defensive system. Your credibility is thinning by the moment.

Well, I'm not about to be concerned about Gortat's age and then pretend Bynum hasn't missed 33% of his NBA games (and not because he had Dwight Howard in front of him).

If it's going to take the Suns 5 years to rebuild and we expect Gortat to be a centerpiece on that team, then fine, we can debate that in theory. But I agree with JCSF that right now is exactly when you want a player like him on the roster.

OK..and what does Frye & Lopez have that they don't? At least those Houston "scrubs" don't have overpaid contracts like Frye.

I know man but slinslin just absolutely hates Gortat. Gortat can win MVP this year and he would still say he sucks.

I think slinslin's wife left him for a Poland guy in the past and now he's holding it against all Polish people including Gortat.

Slinslin is a two faced ******!!!

Check out these posts by him from a different website;

Listen:

The best player in this deal is clearly Steve Nash.

The most valueable player in this deal is clearly Gortat. He gives the same or actually more production than Bynum and makes half the money. Even if you could convince me that Bynum was better, it would be by such a small margin that it would never make up the money difference AND health difference.

So Gortat is healthier, gives more production, is more efficient and makes half the money Bynum makes.

Maybe you understand why the Lakers would never get Nash and Gortat straight up for just Bynum.

Congrats on posting the most worthless stats compiled ever.

How about this? Gortat has higher PER, higher APER and outplayed Bynum head to head. Yh and he played more than half of those games with a broken thumb.

The Stats would be more favorable even for Gortat if you took just the stats since his thumb is healed.
Look at their January stats
Gortat 16.4ppg 10.4rpg 1apg 0.6spg 1.6bpg 32mpg 60.7%FG
Bynum 14.9ppg 13.2rpg 1.3apg 0.5spg 1.8bpg 34mpg 51%FG

Gortat is more productive. Almost a 10% difference in FG%. Bynum is a little bit better on the boards but that is all. Gortat is as good or better in any other category and far more efficient.

Head to Head
Gortat 16 points 12 boards 2 assists
Bynum 12 points 8 boards 1 assist

lol!

Gortat plays with a fractured thumb and put up higher PER than Bynum anyway. Bynum misses 30 games every season and had 4 knee surgeries.

HAH! Is that why Gortat scores more points per post-up than Bynum?

Is that why Gortat puts up 20/10 without Nash anyway? And Gortat does not put up similiar numbers? LOL ever checked their profiles and adjusted the minutes played?

APER takes into account assisted FG and charges etc and Gortat rates higher than Bynum still anyway.

Maybe you should try to put things into perspective I said on this board that Gortat and Bynum have relatively similiar value at this point. On the other board I was merely defending Gortat against Lakers fans who think that their value is not close at all and how Bynum is worth much more than Nash and Gortat.
On this board you can't have reasonable discussions about Gortat because people are overrating him to no end, on realgm you can't have reasonable discussions about Bynum and Gortat because one is extremely overrated by dozens of Lakers fans while Gortat is more underrated than he should be.

slinslin, who is overrating Gortat and how? Most people on the posts I have read are defending you underrating him all the time and trying to get him out the door. Not one person I have read on this forum is saying he is a Superstar. People are saying he is one of the top centers.

It still doesn't make sense that you go out of your way to say he is overrated here and say he is underrated there. Seems to me there is a little saving face going on.

Trust me bro, I have seen him post on therre and people hate him. No Suns fans think he's garbage like he does and if anything this message board underrates him more than them.

But honestly, I think he's fairly valued by both boards.

The Nuggets 3 way trade and the Blazers trade with Batum isn't all bad for the teams involved.
