Hayes a great tackler? How would you know by watching camp in Flagstaff? They don't tackle anyone.

The speculation that something might have happened yesterday morning to cause the coaches to get down on KD. That something might have been the injury to King. Now the coaches are looking at the possibility of having to move Pace back to DE. And that possibility makes it essential that KD gets on the field. JMO.

Yep that's my guess too, if King is out of the rotation again, Pace probably moves back to DE and then Dansby HAS to be ready to go.

Not necessarily. Antonio Smith is said to be having a very good camp and I read somewhere that Kendrick Clancy has seen some time playing on the outside.

Along these lines, Bill Parcells provided interesting insight into how new players fit into existing systems. He said that, although coordinators may have preconceived ideas of how they want to run their offenses or defenses, they always take some time at the beginning of each camp to "see what they've got." ("You can bet that's what Sean Payton is doing in New Orleans before he nails down his offense.").

After they get a sense of what various players can and cannot do, they tailor their schemes to make best use of the talent they've got. (Clancy P alluded to this process during his interview yesterday).

KK's absence could cause Clancy P to alter his schemes and personnel sets accordingly. We quite possibly see guys like Dockett or K Clancy playing a little strong side DE (particularly in our 3-4 looks). Or - if Pendergast felt it would get the most out of the guys in this unit and had confidence that he could play chess with his DT's, we might conceivably see him rotating Dockett to RDE with K Clancy or Lewis at UT and Watson or Moore at NT.

While Kenny King is able to play either DT or DE, isn't his primary position at DT, backup to Dockett, not DE? If so why would it relate to Pace's positional alignment whatsoever? While his injury is a blow, I think the Cardinals are better able to absorb his loss (if lost) this year than previously.

As Jeff said, they've got Smith; and others to backup the DE position as well.

I think that Jonathon Lewis is the primary backup to Dockett right now. King was always small for a DT. I've heard multiple times that King was the primary backup to Berry in camp, with Antonio Smith backing up Okeafor.

With the level of specialization that these guys go through, it's not as easy as you might think to just ask guys to "flip over" and play the opposite DE role.
