The job does get much tougher though... Against Qb's like Newton and Wilson, the Badger's skillset comes in very handy! Without him, those types of QB's could have an easier time doing what they do...

I don't believe we had much of a chance of stopping either of those guys on D even with Badger and my big hope is Seattle knocks off Carolina and Bruce, Palmer and HFA carry us to a wild shoot-out W to go to the Super Bowl.

We got to go to Carolina... And well, we're gonna have to play a perfect game to beat what will be a perfect team at that point.

This is a very big loss. Saying otherwise is delusional. I hope the next man up works again but man......this team will have zero margin for error on blitz packages with less support over the top.

89 tackles, five interceptions, a sack is not gong to be replaced.

That's what I figured would happen.

I think Bethels pretty good & Powers will be now playing to his strengths. I still think DJ is la liability in coverage he's excels in the box. Thus I'm not so sure he plays a whole lot once Rashad is good.

I still believe we're gonna win the Super Bowl

Powers is a better slot corner.
D.J. can hit hard. We could use a "Boom"

Kind of suggest to me that both knees where naturally the same and it was a matter of time before the other knee had a problem... hope he takes this in stride because his biggest attribute is his technique and instincts, he is a 'football player' which makes him special and not because he is some freak athletic guy

Don't fool yourself... He's got the total package of instinct and freak ability. That guy's quickness is OFF the charts. I do now worry that he's gonna be Derrick Rose-esque. MASSIVE talent who's body just wasn't made to withstand the sport.

I think this plays both to the strengths of Bethel (outside) and Powers (slot) - that just leaves the TE being covered, but they have been using Bucannon more on that with Spoon at ILB in a sub-package - we have a couple of games to see how this will work.

Covering the TE is where we'll miss HB. He's been killing it this year and I'm not sure we have anybody on our roster that can do that.

What I meant was he is more of a football player than a athlete, he does have great quicks but his size and speed are not ideal but his understanding of the game is amazing

So, if there's any silver lining at all, maybe the Defensive corps will use this as a rallying cry, for the remainder of the journey

No doubt! And knucklers like Stephen A Smith will use it to say the Cards now have "no chance" and that will further galvanize the entire team to go out and prove 'em wrong.

This is certainly a huge loss, but not as nearly as bad as losing Palmer was last year. And HB's spirit will be there to push the team through this. I'm bummed for HB but not terribly concerned about this meaning curtains for our Cards.

#AZCardinals defense has played 14 games, they've been on the field for 895 defensive snaps. Tyrann Mathieu played 878 of those snaps. (98%)

You can't replace Badger, but you can scheme around his absence to minimize the impact of his loss. The secondary has many moving parts with guys who can play multiple positions. Powers can play slot while Bethel goes outside. Rashad can play both safety positions. Swearenger may be the ace in the hole here if he plays to his potential.

Right? You dont need defense to win playoff games.

Says it all. I am all for next man up but this is going to be a tall order.

I wonder who, if anyone is out there. Not talking about a difference maker or a starter, but we're going to have to add some depth at the very least.

Dumb post.

Only so many DBs who can be on the field at a time. Can only dress so many players

You are right but only to a degree. I think there are several players that are irreplaceable or close to it. On defense that would be Peterson, Tyrann and maybe Campbell. On offense it would be Palmer, Fitz and David Johnson (at this point he is the only healthy threat at RB). At that point in the game, none of the above should have been close to the field.

Tight turnaround for a DB to recover from surgery and be 100% 2016 Week 1.
Too bad.

Would it be SO Keim-like to have Swearinger step up and effectively fill the hole left by the Badger?? [emoji120]

You cant play scared.

If he pulls PP and HB out and then the Eagles score quickly it's suddenly a 2 possession game. Especially with what happened to the Panthers earlier in the day.

I get we're all upset and someone has to get blamed, but it's football, poop happens. :(

Especially when they play with reckless abandon - like HB does.

Philly was in spread formation all game, and at the end, was in obvious pass downs, which meant AZ was playing 5-6 DBs at a time. There were 6 dressed for the game IIRC. You can maybe have one out in those situations, and that would still leave you with either Badger or PP21 out there.

It's a more straight forward discussion when you're talking about pulling Palmer for Stanton or DJ for Taylor. With the DBs, not so much.

You are right, but you can play smart. I couldn't believe they left Carson and D Johnson in the game as long as they did. Especially after the two injury scares. Once we had a 3 score lead with less than 10 minutes, they should have been pulled. At the very least, D Johnson should have been pulled. With as thin as we are at RB and the knee tweak before half, why risk it.

Let's not forget that we beat Seattle in Seattle in 2013 when they were at their absolute best without Tyrann. We do not need to panic. Our emotion should be focused on lifting up Tyrann as the heart of our team.

Tyrann speaks via Twitter (posting a picture of a Bible quote):

2 Corinthians 12:10 New International Version (NIV)

That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weakness, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
