Now if we could just find a QB to throw accurate darts :D

You mean like Charley Johnson, Jim Hart, Neil Lomax, Jake Plummer and Kurt Warner? Face it. The problem with the franchise for the last 40 years is that they wouldn't know a good defense if it was hanging all over Dollar Bill's bow tie.

Always remember they are the Cardinals they do what they do. We all know the NFL is a passing league so how do the Cards have the #1 passing offense in the NFL, with a future HOF QB, and finish 5-11? AND with Fitz and Boldin at WR?

Because the football gods hate us.

Not true, both were rated as 1st rounders, Johnson was rumored to be the target of KC who picked a couple behind us. Pace was rated a low 1st rounder as well....the trade down was terrible but the most important thing is scouting not based on where they are ranked on Kiper, McShay etc board.

There have been quite a few bust first round WR's in the past 10 years and just as many good finds later in the draft.

Look at 2001
Pick 8 - Chicago Bears - David Terrell

Pick 9 - Seattle Seahawks - Koren Robinson

Pick 15 - Washington Redskins - Rod Gardner

Pick 16 - New York Jets - Santana Moss

Pick 25 - Philadelphia Eagles - Freddie Mitchell

Pick 25 - Indianapolis Colts - Reggie Wayne

More misses than hits there.

2002

Pick 13 - New Orleans Saints - Donte' Stallworth

Pick 19 - Denver Broncos - Ashley Lelie

Pick 20 - Green Bay Packers - Javon Walker

Stallworth is the only one of note and he isn't a #1

2003

Pick 2 - Detroit Lions - Charles Rogers

Pick 3 - Houston Texans - Andre Johnson

Pick 17 - Arizona Cardinals - Bryant Johnson

Andre Johnson and that is it.

2004

Pick 3 - Arizona Cardinals - Larry Fitzgerald

Pick 7 - Detroit Lions - Roy Williams

Pick 9 - Jacksonville Jaguars - Reggie Williams

Pick 13 - Buffalo Bills - Lee Evans

Pick 15 - Tampa Bay Buccaneeers - Michael Clayton

Pick 29 - Atlanta Falcons - Michael Jenkins

Pick 31 - San Francisco 49ers - Rashaun Woods

Fitz is clearly the best. Evans is OK. Jenkins has never topped 53 receptions in a season and Clayton hasn't been anything special since his rookie year.

People just need to hold off on the Green & Jones are "can't miss" elite prospects...Terrell, Robinson, Gardner & Rogers were all can't miss too.

Javon Walker was a stud until injuries ruined his career. Gardner was never a "can't miss" prospect, he was a later 1st rounder. And Koren Robinson had some pretty nice years, but alcohol derailed his career.

But your point remains the same, WR is a high bust position. Smart teams draft them all the time and don't spend huge money on them. I mean, you can but it's not a great value position.

I remember for years Kerouac talking about how the Cards made a mistake taking Fitzgerald over Roy Williams.

Yup. And I thought Carlos Rogers would be what Megatron eventually became. WR is a tough position to draft at.

FWIW, it wasn't that I thought that Larry Fitzgerald was going to be bad (like I do with Von Miller as a 3-4 OLB or I thought with Antrel Rolle as a CB). I just thought that Roy Williams would add a vertical threat and make Anquan Boldin that much better.
