I am with Cheesebeef on this one. We did not pay Warner $4 million to carry a clipboard.

I agree with you guys on this. However, I also agree with Clif that it's not a guarantee if Warner doesn't produce.

that's not what Clif's saying though - Clif thinks the starting job is up in the air in training camp(correct me if I'm wrong here Clif) and I think that's nonsense. That said - if Warner sucks it up once the season starts, I have no fear whatsoever that Denny will put his ass on the bench but for now, going into the season, I HAVE TO believe the Starting job is his.

No I actually do believe that Kurt has the edge at this point based on the signing, but IF Josh proves himself there is a chance that he can start. I dont think that just because warner signed for 4mil he will automatically will be given the job.

Obviously poor play by either QB will doom their chances. I see it more like 60-40 right now in favor of Kurt. I just don't want ANYONE HANDED THE JOB!!

I think he will automatically be handed the job because he is a VASTLY superior QB to Josh, as in - he can actually play the position. 60-40 right now? Keep 'em coming Clif - you're killing me tonight.

come on .. if you think that at this point in either QB's career one is VASTLY superior to the other then I am done with this discussion. I am not talking about superbowls or MVP's I am strictly talking about production.

Did you watch a game last year?

Josh would need to go super nova in order to beat out Warner. Just watch the tapes of last year. All you got to do is get the ball in the vicinity of our big 3 receivers in order for them to catch the ball. Just imagine if some of those overthrown passes were thrown to the receiver. Just imagine if all of those constant missed reads were read, and the pass was completed. We would have won the NFC West, and been in the playoffs. We lost a lot of tight games, Atlanta being the best example, purely cause Josh couldn't run the offense.

Warner is going to SLAUGHTER the competition.

Peace

dude - JOSH SUCKED LAST YEAR - PERIOD. He played well for a full game against an ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC St. Louis club and against the Niners in the first game and was Bad to BEYOND BAD in every other game - to argue otherwise is an excersise in futility. Look at their passer rating, completion percentage, yardage per game - Warner towers over Josh in each of thsoe areas and that was with Tiki and nothing else on offense.

Warner and every other avergae NFL QB is a vast upgrade iver how Josh played the position last year - his yardage, his passer rating, his turnover:TD ration were all in the bottom 15% of the league - THAT IS BAD - PERIOD.

Nice!

NOW I see what you are trying to get at.

Dennis Green won't hand the job over to Warner. It will take about 2 hours into the first day at camp for him to win it. And if that doesn't convince the public, it will take 1 offseason game for all of us to see who is the superior QB.

This is like a boxing match between Starvin Marvin vs Mike Tyson. Yeah they both got a shot at winning the match........until the bell rings.

he produc ed some thrilling comebacks against the Niners - when we were down 28-3 (how did the O only score 3 freaking points by midway through the third I ask you?) and 24-7 against the Hags at the end of the season - Oh wait - we lost those games also because when the chips were down - Josh still stunk(ie. the nice "lob" into Freddie Jones and taking that God-awful sack againstt eh Hags to move us out of field goal range).

Oh - don't forget that 90 yarder he had againstt he Giants(no - not a pass - a game) and the fact that our first TD last season was thrown by Emmitt Freaking Smith in the 4th game.

Did you watch a game that Warner played last year? If he gets the same blocking here that Josh did and that he got in NY....he will be in worse shape than Josh because he is immobile. Now I do not expect that to happen because DG is fixing the OLINE. We have to have a top flight RB and OLINE. If we get these things either one of QB will be able to do the Job. I have long coveted Warner as our QB. I just wish it had been last season.

dude THE TEAM SUCKED LAST YEAR. why don't people get that concept. it was not all on one player's shoulders.

it's funny how on one thread some can say that if we improve the running game or the oline or the run defense this team would be in the playoffs and then the SAME PEOPLE turn around in this thread and say it was Josh's fault the team was not in the playoffs.

MAKE UP YOUR MINDS.

what can't people accept OPEN COMPETITION. If Josh fails then so be it. I see alot of positives and think that he has a very good CHANCE TO be the QB for this team. why can't people accept that?

I think very few people think it will be competitive, open or not. It's like saying Duke vs. Northeastern South Dakota State in the first round of the NCAAs is "open competition".

It has nothing to do with the team when the QB overthrows the intended receiver. Or when the QB doesn't not make the right read at the right time.

Playing QB in Arizona is not that hard right now. DG is bringing in a functioning OL and this will give the QB more time. All the QB has to do is get the ball near the hands of our WR's, and the rest will take care of itself.

I have seen Josh get plenty of time to throw the ball, and he does nothing with it.

Can Josh win this battle ? Yes, but as I said he will have to go super nova to do so. This ain't no Shaun King throwing the ball into the ground. Kurt Warner knows how to play this game, and Josh is in a world of hurt unless he has improved 300% or more from last year.

Peace

..#1.Our Oline sucked last year plain and simple. We moved people around tring to see what postion they were going to play.Injuries and such hurt us too.#2..Our recievers could not get open.Toomer had a hamstring injury which really hurt him last year.To his credit he did play though it just not at the same level he has played in the past.

Does this sound familiar?

I can't wait to see what the Cards can do with a veteran of big games at QB and healthy receivers.

The Oline is still a work in progress.

I have never been able to properly use this great line from Cheers until now: Clif, what color is the sky in your world?

And who are those SAME PEOPLE saying if our rushing game and run defense was better we'd have been in the playoffs last year?

*sigh* How did I know this was going to happen? I don't think it really mattered who we signed at QB, there would be polar opposites of the equation 1) Making it seem like Josh isn't nor ever will be a decent QB and 2) Those that feel the QB we picked up is equivalent to a pro bowler.

We had plenty of problems last year on this offense and THEY WEREN'T ALL ON THE DAMN QB!! Our pass blocking sucked, "Blitz pickup" was meerly a theory, we had a crappy running game with an 800-year-old RB, our WRs weren't healthy until the final 4 weeks of the season and had trouble running routes and getting seperation most of the season.

Would Warner have done better on our team than Josh last year? I don't know, I have trouble believeing he would have made it past week 3 with the "wonderful" blocking combination of Clement and Cameron Spikes. His main criticism is that he held on to the ball for too long and turned it over too often ... SOUND FAMILIAR?!

Warner is the best of a god awful crop of FA QBs thats it. Nothing more. He has the potential to be good or be bad on a weekly basis ... those that are expecting MVP type #s from him again are begging for disappointment. He isn't the same QB he was a few years ago. He's had injury problems and suddenly has fear of taking a hit

That's it! Josh McCown is Buster Douglas! Awesome Clif - keep 'em coming - you're killing me.

And AJ - The Duke vs. Northeast Crap-ass State comparison was classic. Poor Josh supporters - I feel bad for all of you today - but not to worry, when we're winning and you FINALLY see what a real NFL QB looks like, you'll throw his ass under the bus with the rest of us who already know what an NFL QB looks like.

Now that is certainly not his problem, or everyone would not criticize him for holding onto the ball for too long. Rather, he has seemed more hesitant to pull the trigger than he used to. How much of that was on the Giants WRs, and how much on Kurt? We're about to find out.
