We have the Lions at home next year, and Whiz will try and come for his revenge!! Horton too!! It's just in the Cards!! :D

Horton would definitely want to stick in to the Cards & would prolly blitz Palmer to death.

I won't argue your point. But BA also wasn't saddled with having to keep a crappy DC & having to deal with a crappy GM. BA would gladly trade in his 10-6 for a 9-7, if it meant getting into the playoffs. Bottom line, Whiz did what no other Cardinal coach did or may ever do. He deserves respect from this base. Graves was the culprit for us not being able to build on Whiz's early success.

Malarkey.

It wasn't Grave's fault that Whis held the team hostage by holding on to his broski Grimm, who was unable to fix the line AND his horrible eye for QB talent by starting Max freaking Hall, and starting the season with freaking DWreck. Denny Green built that superbowl team and drafted all the studs who we love. IF Graves had no input in the Green drafts, then he didn't have any input in Whiz hunt for a qb. He was like Gruden, used that team that Dungy built to get them over the hump and win it all.

The bashing for Graves is unsubstantiated.

Thanks for chiming in Rod, I didn't know you still visited this site. It's funny how putrid QB seems to follow Graves from Mirer, to Scud/Hall/Skelton and now Geno and the Jets. There's probably no coincidence to that whatsoever.

I'm sure Rod had nothing to do with Dansby, Rolle, and Boldin all being removed from the team within about a 12 hour period also.

But Rod, I give you credit. You showed a real eye for talent when it came to free agency. There was Scud, the rotting corpse of Joey Porter, Orlando Huff, Al Johnson, Terrance Holt, Travis LaBoy, and the RT from Pittsburgh whose name escapes me, just to name a few.

That would be the one and only Oliver Ross. I'm surprised some NFL franchise doesn't snap up Russ Grimm as a super scout and talent evaluator focusing on offensive line talent. :sarcasm:

He'll take the Lions pretty far IMO. Lot of great pieces already in place. And I don't think "fixing" Stafford will be that hard--eliminate his sidearm and underhand throws and make him set his feet. He's just careless, not incapable.

Assuming the chargers winning and going deeper into playoffs could hurt Whiz chances at this job.

Doubt it.

The guy leading the interview in Detroit is a former teammate in Washington.

If anything, should Washington and Tenn not name a coach this week, they may be waiting also to take a shot at Whiz.

Whiz and Horton together again would be cool, Lions look like a good place for that. They have a defense for Horton to mess with, and a QB so Whiz has a shot ..downfield.. .everyplay. :D

If Whiz gets the job, I doubt he would be looking at Horton unless he plans on retooling their current defense. Suh would probably have to move to nose tackle, what a waste of his talent, and then what do you do with Farley??? Trade him for OSLBs? Tough transition in one off season, if you want to contend right away.

Whiz destroyed this talented team as soon as he got the new contract and personnel powers. I thank him for his SB but we were last in the NFL in Rushing over his tenure -shortening warner's career by at least a year! 10 freaking carries in the SB and 10 in the Saints 09 playoff loss!

Do people understand how insane that is- the Saints bounty scandal should have paid off Whisenhunt! for Kurt's last game - while still under contract! With a play caller like Whiz Kurt don't need mercenaries or enemies!

I hate Whiz's behavior as a Cards Head Coach- then take Chargers back to the Steelers 40 year blueprint and win a playoff game with less talent! It was not the 9 QB's it was Whiz's pets playing and top talent in dog houses- screw him he is a fundamentally flawed coach.

Whiz wasn't calling the plays in the SB. The same game we still came within 2 minutes of winning ;)

He didn't destroy this team Thesmel. He hand picked 2 bad QBs to succeed Warner and sunk with the ship. That same thing happens to many NFL HCs when the QB fails. That's reality dude.

Whis deserves a lot of credit but he does deserve blame too. The handling of the Leinart situation as an obvious example.

Wonder if he'll seek out Grimm to be his o-line coach again?

His handling if the Leinart situation makes him even smarter IMO. The guy was a mental weakling and a ****ty QB. 3 teams and at least two starting opportunities since proves that Whiz was right about the guy. He was truly no better than Scud who is still in the league FYI unlike Leinart.

Now his ability in handling personnel and finding a franchise QB is fully in question IMO. His handling of Matty Im a cry baby complains to the media and supposed leader of a FB team? not so much!

None of the teams. His best fit is as an OC for Rivers and the Chargers.

respectfully disagree

there is a lot more too it than QB's - that is way oversimplifying the ex steeler busts- like mcfadden, Porter, Gay - falling in love with Money Mike Adams and THT. I didn't like the secrets that destroyed or undermined potential star players like Leinart and Well's.

Then come out and crucify them in the press - to see how they respond- not well - I wouldn't respond well to a boss dragging my name through the mud - to get put in the doghouse after disclosing it was a "secret" surgery not a minor bruise as the coach spouted for half a season.

I like Arians handling much better- both R Williams and Levi Brown- there is plenty of adversity without creating it on purpose - Like Whiz did with Leinart - That is not how you develop or get the best out of young players. BA and Bowles got the most from the talent they had- and are developing veteran and rookies at the same time.

I see BA understands that passing like your hair is on fire can not be sustained and increases turnovers overall - yes chunks of yardage but you have to balance up- be patient and earn them suckers!

Personally I was never in the 'need to fire Whiz' camp. I saw why it could be considered necessary, but could also see the risks in firing him due to personnel issues. Late in the last season it was clear he had lost the team, but that happens to any coach after a string of bad seasons.

I was however completely on board with getting rid of Graves, and thought it was his fault things turned so sour. It's the HC's job to coach the players the GM gets. If some of this is offloaded to the HC, and those decisions fail, I still put the blame on the GM, because ultimately it's his responsibility to give the head coach the talent to win.

I don't want to fire a decent or in our case one of our best coaches ever because he failed at being a part time GM. I want to hire/fire a head coach based on coaching.

That's why I'm glad Keim seems to be a competent GM able to project, see, and make moves to keep the talent flowing. It's remarkable how many guys we picked up on the eve of training camp and throughout the season that made a big impact on how good we were as a team.

Overall I wonder what would have happened had Whiz remained and we simply booted Graves for Keim. Personally I think it could have worked. But hey, what we have with Arians and Keim I believe is superior to whatever Whiz/Keim could have done. Our defense also didn't drop off with Bowles instead of Horton.

So now back to Whiz... based on this I do believe Whiz could work some magic with the offensive talent in Detroit. He wasn't bad, he was stuck with some glaring holes at important positions, made some bad decisions, and finally lost the team. While Grimm was a sticky with Whiz here in AZ, Detroit might get Whiz without Grimm. They have a QB, an all world WR, some nice building blocks on defense, and Reggie Bush.

I don't think he'll treat Stafford like Leinart. I could see Suh or Fairley getting in his doghouse though.

As a coach with that sort of talent around him, I think he can succeed. I think such a situation is what he's tailored to do. His offense may suck with crappy parts, but with good parts, it runs (no pun intended) quite well. I definitely agree that for what Whiz needs to run his offense, Det makes the most sense.

Though in the NFL few win championships and just about everyone eventually gets fired, so who knows if he would succeed. We're just guessing what situation gives him the best shot.

I didn't say his ultimate decision, I said the way he handled the decision. I don't see how anyone can defend the process that led up to Leinart being released. I agree that Whis was ultimately right about Leinart but not making the decision to release him until the last week of the preseason and going with Derek Anderson is cause for criticism.

1) Hiring Whiz for his prowess at handling quarterbacks is like making Lizzie Borden the president of the PTA for the way she handles parents.

2) If it was true that a coach could will a team to win against an opponent he had strong personal issues against, then we would have a Lombardi Trophy displayed on Hardy Drive.

3) I would have been okay with the Cards doing a one year experiment with Whiz operating under a Keim GM regime. It probably wouldn't have worked out, but it would have been interesting. I cannot say the opposite would have been true. As a matter of fact I doubt Arians would have even considered coming here with the Human Snail still at the reins.

4) I have always suspected that if I were ever to shake THESMEL's hand the entire universe would explode in some kind of matter/antimatter catyclism. However I must admit he is right when he complains about how the Leinart situation was managed. Whiz might have been a lot of things, but a developer of QB talent was not one of them. Just my .02
