Dennis Johnson for Rick Robey didn't even make the llist! l The guy must not even know about it as it generally considered the worst trade in Suns history... the trade was with the Celtics and DJ was one the reasons they went to win more titles. Robey barely cracked our starting line up, and only for a short time. Within weeks we knew what a total dud he was.
Hot Rod, Luc Longley and Mel Counts were comparatively good players, I kid you not.

Alex Len is evidence that the 'curse of the coin flip' lives on.

Love to get involved but I'm clueless pre-Barkley.

If you have been watching the Suns at all for the last 45 years, like many of us have, you would know.

1. DJ for Rick Robey
2. Kurt Thomas and two first rounders for nothing.

Barkley to Houston? What? That had to be done.

How about the Suns trading the #7 pick in the 2004 draft to Chicago (Deng but Iguodala was available) for Jackson Vroman and the Bulls 2005 1st rounder that ended up being the #21 pick. We selected Nate Robinson and then sold him for cash.

What's worse is that the Bulls started the next season 0-9 and were 5-15 at the 20 game mark. Things were looking pretty good for that pick. Chicago managed to finish 47-35 and were slotted to pick 21st.

I'm surprised the trade sending Gugliotta and 2 firsts to Utah isn't mentioned. Horrible trade that is overlooked by many because that was just before Colangelo sold the team.

You're right. This trade is hardly mentioned.

I can't help but wonder if Jerry Colangelo regrets selling the Suns. The franchise must be worth a bundle.

To top it off, the Sonics trade Kurt Thomas for a 1st round pick.

Agreed on Jerry. I imagine the team would sell for an extra billion now. I think it was sold for about 450 million just 12-13 years ago but teams are all selling for over a billion since the Clippers went for 2 billion.

Jerry for sure regrets it. You could tell when he was talking to the AZSports radio guys during their Newsmakers week a year or two ago. It's too bad too because I'm convinced we would have won at least one championship had he not sold the team. He would have paid the extra 5 mil to keep Joe Johnson and he wouldn't have traded the 7th pick away that would have netted us Igoudala.

Does Marbury-Kidd get a mention? It didn't seem bad at the time - I vaguely remember it being okay on 'principle' reasons after he hit joumana - but hindsight says it was pretty stupid.

Marbury wasn't bad here at all. That team was very young and exiting and had a great series with the Spurs.

Yes, that was a terrible, cost-saving move. One of the NYK picks that were traded to UTA became Gordon Hayward.

I'm glad that we didn't suffer from seeing him leave to Boston without getting any compensation...

If we had taken Hayward though, who knows if he would have ended up as the max player and top free agent this summer. I think he would have had a solid career but he had the chance to grow in Utah and that team was built with him as the centerpiece of the offense. Him going to Boston is something that couldn't be predicted and I'm not so sure he would have left Utah for Boston if the IT/Irving trade was made at the draft instead of recently. IT played a big part in recruiting him and Hayward signed on to join IT's team, that had the best record in the East last year. They only have 4 returning players now though with a new centerpiece and PG. I know Stevens was probably the main reason he signed since Stevens was his college coach but they've changed quite a bit since he agreed to sign.

Who knows who we would have taken there if we made that pick. We could have used it since we traded away our own 2010 pick in the KT trade, so we were left with no 1st rounders that year. Beyond that though 2010 was the last year we made the playoffs since Stoudemire left that summer. We made some bad acquisitions to fill the void he left, signing Hakim Warrick, Josh Childress, and trading for Hedo Turkoglu. At #9 we could have taken Hayward or Paul George, who was selected #10. If we would have went after a PF then Ed Davis and Patrick Patterson were probably the most likely at that spot, they were taken #13 and #14 that year. The team today would look quite different though. It's fun to look back on and guess, since there are so many "what ifs" involved it's easy not to get frustrated with it, IMO.

I wish Jerry never sold the team. He was great for the game and for the suns. It has all gone south since then.
