I guess I'm not seeing the difference here unless Steve thinks a top 3 protected pick is too much to pay for Ball.

I'd do a top three protected pick and filler for Ball but Holiday is preferable depending upon how much the Suns have to give up.

With Anderson's negative contract included it is going to take a lot more to get Holiday.
Honestly. I think we all are pretty much in agreement on this. I am just not sure NO is going to trade Holiday. If they do, the actual trade is a little more complicated because of his salary. We would have to include Anderson to make the salaries work, but then we would have to include other compensation because Anderson is negative value, as you said.

Some thoughts if the Suns trade for Lonzo:

It would be a replay of the Morris brothers.

The Suns would need to sign all three brothers to keep Lavar happy.

Father thinks if Igor plays Lonzo 36 minutes a game, the Suns problems are solved.

The trade value of Lonzo went down after the interview.

The Pelicans need the Suns more than the Suns need the Pelicans in a trade for Lonzo.

On the flip side, I would like to see Lonzo run the Suns feeding Ayton, Booker, Bridges, Jackson, etc.

The safest option for the Suns is to trade for Holiday but it is going to cost the Suns a lot... maybe too much.

The Pelicans should be thrilled to get anything good for Ball after hearing the father talk.

Maybe the Suns should be peddling their protected first round pick to other teams and see what it is worth.

Even the Bucks pick might draw some interest from other teams.

The Lakers are the most desperate of all. LeBron is aging. If they do not make a trade now for AD, they will not be able to trade for him in the summer AND sign the free agents they want. This is a deal where the Lakers have to be "all in". They have LeBron, they trade the farm to get AD. They then will have room for a max free agent this summer. They can add KD, Kyrie, Klay, or Kemba and be set. Then they just fill in the pieces.

I don't think Lonzo (or anyone associated with Lonzo) has all that much leverage anymore as far as making demands where to go, to sign his brothers, or anything else. He needs to improve his career pronto because he is very close to settling into journeyman/bench player status if he doesn't.

I think you're giving too much credit to Lavar, nobody is going to sign Gelo and Melo Ball(who's still in HS) because Lavar wants them all to play together. Lonzo is just not good enough to make that viable. Lavar is just talking because he hasn't had a mic in his face for awhile.

You are completely correct. The Lakers need the additional assets to trade for Anthony Davis. The Suns can't cave. There are other point guards in the world.

I'm only making an observation here. I don't think it will happen either.

It might be fun if Lonzo comes here because Lavar would keep Sarver on his toes.

Maybe he would keep the focus off of Sarver for a while.

So. We tell the Lakers "Yeah, we will help, but you have to get us Jrue and find someone to take Anderson."

The Suns need to be totally mercenary at this moment. Don't worry about helping the Lakers or not. Do not worry about the compaints about JJ being LeBron's lap dog. Just do what is best for the Suns no matter where the chips fall.

Danny Ainge can go home and cry for all I care.

Except he would keep Sarver hopping. Lavar is not going to be quiet about anything.

Fans have always wanted to tell Sarver how to run the team... Lavar would.

I like this. The hands have flipped. Now the Suns are in the driver's seat this late in the season. They don't have to make a trade at all before the trade deadline.

Doesn't mean Sarver would listen. He doesn't listen to people he hires, let alone the parents of players he's paying millions of dollars to.

No Sarver doesn't have to listen but Lavar will have a podium with the media.

Which would be great...if he weren't 100% delusional with absolutely no clue how to run a team.

If Igor gives Lonzo the minutes the father wants, things may be all right for awhile but eventually there will be problems.

It's sort of scary to think the father has been relatively quiet during the past year. I think he will be more vocal with the Suns.

I actually think Melo could be pretty good. But yeah I think people are listening way to much to Lavar. Just because he spews a bunch of crap doesn't make it real.

Well the problem is Lavar only takes the angle that works for him. If he's right then great, if he's wrong, he's not going to shut up about it. I don't think he harmed UCLA at all but it didn't help that he was making comments about the slow white guys on the team or things like that. Lonzo was a godsend at UCLA and not a problem at all, Gelo was a short term pain because of the China thing. I actually think that worked to UCLA's advantage as it got them out of the deal for Gelo and Melo prematurely.

Lavar has been silent this year largely IMO because he gets that LeBron is the GM and if he says the wrong thing, LeBron will trade Lonzo. It looks like it may happen anyways.

Melo's close to Lonzo in height now and looks better but still doesn't play defense, needs to bulk up and still takes some bad shots. he's a better shooter than Lonzo but not the passer and doesn't see the court as well. I think he could help a college team it's just not clear what his buy in will be. I think he got a little humbled in the overseas stuff.

LaVar just claimed Gelo would be the best 2 guard in the league! :grabs:

Should I start a Devin vs. Gelo poll?
