Anyone who thinks that that kind of behavior is acceptable needs their freaking head examined.

I don't think anyone said it was "acceptable" behavior Shane... At the same time, if you decide to wear your teams' jersey while attending an away game, you better prepared for some grief.
If you don't want to deal with snowballs, or worse, don't wear your jersey. Otherwise, you're begging for it...

And, as Donald said, it was snow. Not batteries, guns or knives...

What a perfect smiley for this thread!

Shane, they threw snowballs. A lot of them. At niner fans. I fail to see where this is so deplorable and why it is not taken as being completely hilarious. Do I need to repeat they were niner fans??

Snowballs, man. Snowballs.

Donald have you ever had a snowball fight? I have. I have come out of them bruised too. Ever caught one in the face? I have and they don't feel good. Snowballs aren't the innocent little tools you are making them out to be.

Especially when thrown by hundreds and hundreds of people in a non stop barrage. Many coming from higher altitude and from good distance making them that much more likely to cause damage and be painful.

I don't care if they are Niner fans. I know people who are fans of many teams who are just damn good people regardless of their fandom. So that alone shouldn't subject them to that behavior.

I understand that you should expect something like that in stadiums like Philly and Oakland. However it doesnt make it right or something that should be condoned. Those people paid a high price for tickets to try and watch the form of entertainment the NFL puts on for them. They had their experience and their hard earned money completely ruined. Why? because they wore Niner jerseys. Pretty Effin stupid IMO.

Im all for verbal smack talk. But that is just plain and simply out of line.

Are you guys freaking KIDDING ME??? Good lord, the people got pelted by SNOWBALLS. Nobody urinated on them. Nobody fought them. They got snowballed. Who gives a crap?

I WISH our fans were HALF this intolerant of opposing fans.

Usually I think Philly fans are douches and throwing batteries and such is so out of control it isn't funny, but calling them out for this is ridiculous.

I am 100 percent on the side of the Philly fans here, and I think it's hilarious. It's more funny because they are niner fans, so it gets a deep belly laugh to boot.

I tend to agree with you. Our fans are made fun of by people all around for being too "soft" and apathetic. While some actions from certain team's fans are unacceptable, I don't have an issue with this.

Yes, and I've also had dirt clod fights. I highly prefer snowball fights. Again, this is a fanbase that has thrown batteries at people. This is snow. Not the nicest thing in the world, but not deplorable.

Especially when thrown by hundreds and hundreds of people in a non stop barrage. Many coming from higher altitude and from good distance making them that much more likely to cause damage and be painful.

Was there a school book depository building, and a magic snowball that took them out too? I did see a thrower on the grassy knoll, who threw two snowballs from very close range. He was my favorite.

I don't care if they are Niner fans. I know people who are fans of many teams who are just damn good people regardless of their fandom. So that alone shouldn't subject them to that behavior.

Being niner fans makes it funny. Sorry, but I would have more compassion if it were Colts fans or something.

It doesn't make it right, but those people shouldn't be surprised.

It is out of line and something our crowd would never do, but it is also funny as all hell. I can't believe you don't see the humor in that...even if you do think it was bad.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that if our fans had access to snow, and if there were a bunch of 9er fans in our stadium who were STUPID enough to wear their 9er jerseys, I believe there is a segment of our fanbase that would have unloaded a barage of snowballs on said STUPID 9er fans...
Again, it isn't right of course. But, if you're STUPID enough to wear your 9er jersey to our stadium, you better be prepared for whatever might come your way... even a snowball in the desert!! ;)

Yup have also had dirt clod fights and I too prefer snow. Good thing muddy dirt doesn't fall from the sky in philly huh? :D

But as to your question. No I didnt find that funny. Not in the least. And I believe a fan should be able to wear their jerseys anywhere they so choose without fear of taking a beating or being barraged with snowballs.

No kidding our crowd won't do it. I thank heaven for that. At least we have some class as a fan base for the most part. They may not be the loudest. But I will give them props for being respectful to other human beings.

Pathetic behavior. Its the same mentality gang members have where they cheap shot people that can't defend themselves and do so only because of the safety in numbers. If you are a coward and a complete puss, you are the guy with a snowball in your hand in this situation. And you're proving you'd be a great gang member. Sickening all around. Of course there are exceptions but for the most part Cardinals fans are just better than this.

Yup... it's pathetic behavior. The sort of pathetic behavior that gets played out each week across the NFL.
The coward is indeed the guy tossing the snowball. And the STUPID guy is the one who wore his 9ers jersey to the Philly game, expecting no trouble.

Oh... as for the comments (yours and others) about "Cards fans being a cut above the rest"... While I personally have not witnessed the amount of crap doled out by Cards fans back in the SDS days, I think you're a bit naive to think that Cards fans don't cause problems for fans of the opposing team... It happens. Used to happen a ton more over at SDS, but it still happens...

I wouldn't want our crowd to do it, but I do wish they were half as intolerant as Philly fans are. I'd be happy with a verbal beatdown all game long.

Still, I find it funny as hell from a fanbase known to be total aholes. When in Rome. Hypocritical? Yep.

Why can't opposing team's fans wear their jersey's and attend game in peace and cheer their teams without getting harrassed, threatened, and/or injured???

If he was more than three seats away I doubt nidan could have thrown it far enough to reach the whiner fan, thus making it pointless to attempt.

Shane, you make a good point but you're forgetting one thing here.

These weren't PEOPLE who were assaulted, they were Niner fans. Niner fans aren't people!

hehe, j/k

Good question... How 'bout you go to the next away game at Philly and wear your Fitz jersey, and then ask some of the Philly faithful if they have a problem with you being in their home with your cards jersey on. Fill us in afterward will ya?

Youre dead wrong to call me naive. I deal with criminals for a living. Every day I deal with violent dirt bag, dead end losers. I'm up to my eyeballs in them.

I've had season tickets since 92. I've been to over one hundred and closer to two hundred Cardinals games. I've never seen an act of group cowardice that approaches anything like this. Not ever. Almost invariably, when opposing teams fans come to SDS or UofP they get little to no harassment, especially if they are showing even a shred of decency themselves. I've never seen nor heard of any act of group cowardice that approaches anything like this. Not even close.

I feel fairly certain that the target of the snowball attack did more than simply wear an opponent's jersey and cheer his team. Pretty sure that he did something to provoke such an attack. After all this group of three weren't the only 49ers fans in the stadium but yet they were the focal point of such an attack and others weren't...

Yeah, I'm only 24 so I missed those guys.

Instead I was blessed with the pleasure of watching Gheorghe Muresan, pre-prime Chris Webber, Dwight Howard, Rod Strickland, (an old) Mitch Richmond, a young undeveloped Tom Gugliotta, pre-prime Rasheed Wallace, pre-prime Ben Wallace, pre-prime Richard Hamilton, post-prime-but still always worth watching Jordan and the current mess of Gilbert "I haven't shot in the last 20 seconds so I better throw one up" Arenas, Antwan "De-what" Jamison and Caron "How the F did the Lakers send me here" Butler.

You missed some great players. I was down to the old Capital Center to see them play and when they played the national anthem when they got to the line "Home of the Free" everyone in the place would yell "E" instead of free for Elvin Hayes. His turnaround jumper kissing off the glass was something to , a thing of beauty. Unseld was the shortest center in the league at 6'-7" but went 250 lbs. He could out muscle Lew Alcindor as Kareem Abdul Jabar was known in those days.
