    2014 Draft morphing

Simmons tweeting: Confirming Jeff Goodman's report: Embiid has a foot injury (origin unclear), getting it evaluated today. Won't work out for any more teams. Also hearing Cavs were scared off by Embiid's foot, now focusing on Jabari or Wiggins (Jabari is the favorite). Unbelievable turn of...

What would you give for Kevin Love

I know McHale is gone, and I'm not saying it's a certainty that Love will bring Boston a championship a la Garnett, but do the T-wolves really want to do this again? I wonder if there's a disincentive for them to trade with Boston. Or maybe Boston will just have to overpay...

By 2020 - 4 new Cities with NFL Teams

Definitely true. One of the longtime Jays execs got into sports originally in an attempt to get an NFL franchise for Toronto. Lots of fans here didn't like the Bills "Toronto Series" because it felt like the team was being stolen, and many would rather have an expansion team. I can relate, and...

By 2020 - 4 new Cities with NFL Teams

As a loose comparison, there are definitely Sabres fans in the Niagara region, but nothing close to the number of Leafs fans. The Leafs are obviously older and hockey is more popular, but I would guess that an expansion Toronto NFL team would eventually capture most of the NFL fans in Ontario...

By 2020 - 4 new Cities with NFL Teams

Got it. My guess is that the Bills would challenge Toronto expansion, though in reality Philadelphia and the two New York teams are actually closer to each other by driving distance. Not to to mention Oakland and SF: I can't remember whether the Niners opposed the Raiders' move back to Oakland...

    2014 NBA Finals Spurs/Heat

It's the equivalent of weather in football: both teams had to deal with it. Unless Bruce Bowen is now the Spurs' facility manager. Then it was on purpose.

    OT: Donald Sterling

My thoughts: Sterling: good riddance. The sale: just wow. 2 billion for a team with a history of zero brand value up until a couple of years ago, that shares its market with one of the most valuable brands in sports. The chance to buy into live content is irresistible to media and tech...

Bill Simmons: Lottery karma favored the Suns

It would have been a-maz-ing to get a top pick this year. But if we're talking karma, I like the way the Suns are doing it. I would have been open to tanking, but things look so much better now than if we were rudderless and drafting #5 through #9 or something like that. We had miniscule odds...

I don't think a team other than the Bills moves to Toronto, and my guess is that they don't. The Bills don't own Toronto the way they think they do: the "popular" teams like the Pats, Steelers, and Niners are just as popular in Toronto. They could though, first by just improving on the field...

    The Fun has Begun

Robert Mays included Bucannon in his "rich-get-richer" moves: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-six-rich-get-richer-moves-of-the-nfl-drafts-first-round/ My hope is that the Cards decided to reach here because they felt they couldn't afford to lose out on Bucannon before their next pick...

OT: Mike D'Antoni steps down as Lakers head coach

I have a bit of a different take. Paul Westhead won the championship in 1980. Yes, he had Magic and Kareem, but I don't think that other teams were prepared for Westhead, or especially for Magic. We remember Pat Riley for Showtime, but Westhead hired Riley, and his championship was only the...

Jerry Jones already claiming ownership of Johnny Football...

Maybe it's not his plan to deal Romo this offseason anyway? Barring anything but a stellar year from Romo, it's hard to imagine the fans not calling for Manziel after every incompletion--or Jerry doing so himself.

Peter King: Cards take a QB in first two rounds

I agree. We can only assume that the Cards have (or are generating) an idea of whom they like at every position per the various rounds. I think a lot of the 'smokescreen' talk around the league is really just the result of teams being interested in players in conditional draft scenarios...

    NBA West Playoffs!

I'd love to see the atmosphere at home with the Suns is the playoffs, but if it doesn't happen, there's still so much reason for optimism. Seriously, how much better was this season than the to-tank-or-not-to-tank debate? The improved pick is definitely a crapshoot, but something to look...

    NBA West Playoffs!

I'll be excited for an improved pick if the Suns get one; until then, I'm cheering for the playoffs! Should be an excited last few games with the Suns, Dallas, and Memphis all playing each other. Not to mention a Suns matchup with the Spurs. For cash-conscious ownership like the Suns', maybe...

OT: NFL to implode in 10 years?

I think the NHL could benefit from a shorter season more than any other sport (if they could overcome the loss of gate revenue). It's not even so much the Stanley Cup finals being played when it's warm--imagine if we had the opening round when there was still snow on the ground (where it snows)...

OT: NFL to implode in 10 years?

I think Cuban is being hyperbolic, but I take his point. The backfiring "greedy" example I would cite is the NHL. For years the league chased unsustainable growth and casual fans while ignoring their core audience. The move of a franchise back to Winnipeg was a mea culpa of sorts. Both the...

    Kadeem Carey just fell to our rd3 pick - 4.65 - 40

Robert Mays has Carey in his Combine losers section. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nfl-combine-winners-and-losers/ Ka’Deem Carey, RB, Arizona: That happens. Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said last weekend that when he watched Andre Ellington’s tape last year, he saw a player who...

    Kadeem Carey just fell to our rd3 pick - 4.65 - 40

I don't go out of my way to praise U of A players but I liked what I saw in this case. The Emmitt comparison earlier was interesting: I haven't thought about it myself but one thing I do remember about Emmitt from college is him beeing fed the ball the entire game without much drop in...

    The Fall of Nash

I don't like seeing Nash in a Lakers jersey either, but I'm far happier about how it's worked out for the Suns. There are any number of reasons why Nash would want to be in LA if he's not in Phoenix. And frankly, if Stern had let Chris Paul go to the Lakers, maybe Nash would be a Clipper right...

Suns explore deal for Pau Gasol

Both Dirk and Malone are great, but I suspect most GMs deciding between the two (a nice problem to have) would find Dirk's production more complementary and replaceable than Malone's. You might have to rely on another position to get a lot of those shots, since Dirk is a bit of an anomaly, but...

you realize if seattle wins the superbowl

This was on the table back in 2006, too. Then Seattle gets jobbed against the Steelers, and three years later the Cardinals get their own chance to beat those same Steelers and make the Seahawks the only team in the division without a Lombardi. So I'm not going to begrudge them.
